The Battle of Sans Culottes Camp (5 February 1794) saw a Spanish army commanded by José de Urrutia y de las Casas attack part of the French Army of the Western Pyrenees under Jean-Henri-Guy-Nicolas de Frégeville. The Spanish assault seized two key positions behind the Bidasoa River but was unable to overrun the main position, called Sans Culottes Camp after an eight-hour contest. The War of the Pyrenees action was fought at a location described as being "in front" of (that is, west of) Saint-Jean-de-Luz near the modern France–Spain border. Ventura Caro had 20,000 troops in the Spanish Army of the West Pyrenees. He ordered his left wing near Irun and center in the Baztan Valley to attack the French camps behind the Bidasoa. French army artillery chief Augustin de Lespinasse gave up the outlying fortifications in order to concentrate his strength in the main camp. By the time Frégeville arrived on the scene, the Spanish attack had lost its momentum. Bon-Adrien Jeannot de Moncey, later a Marshal of France under Napoleon, was promoted to general of brigade for his distinguished actions during the battle.

The canton of Hendaye-Côte Basque-Sud (before 2015: Canton of Hendaye) is an administrative division in southern France. At the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015, the canton was renamed and reduced from 4 to 3 communes: Biriatou Hendaye Urrugne

The Untxin is a coastal river of the French Basque Country, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Southwest France. It is 9.5 km (5.9 mi) long.It rises on the northern slope of the Xoldokogaina, elevation 479 metres (1,572 ft), in the east of Biriatou. The motorway of the Basque Coast (A63) is settled in its valley. It collects in Urrugne waters from the Mandale. The Untxin flows into the ocean in Ciboure.

Belharra, (Basque: Belarra, literally "grass, weed") is a reef and a surf spot in France located off Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the Northern Basque Country, in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France. The shoal creates a violent wave. Before a jetty was constructed in the harbor, the wave would sometimes swallow ships moored at Socoa. The 8+ metre wave forms northwest of the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, between Socoa and Hendaye, about 2.5 kilometers from the beach. It breaks only rarely, and doesn't break at all most winters. It was first surfed on November 22, 2002. For example, during the winter of 2013-2014, Belharra broke only three times: October 28, December 22 and January 7. The shoal, which sits between 14 and 18 metres deep, consists of a plateau forming a stepped overhang. When there is no swell, the area can be used as a dive site.

Biriatou (French pronunciation: [biʁjatu]; Basque: Biriatu) is a village and a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in southwestern France. It is part of the traditional Basque province of Labourd.The village lies on the edge of a hill rising east to the minor mount Xoldokogaina (486 m), the first noticeable prominence across the Spanish-French border at the lower Bidasoa. The hiking trail GR 10 crosses the village, heading east through the southern side of Xoldokogaina. European road carriers and travellers are acquainted with the name, Basque for 'gate/pass of the way' (bide + ate), on account of the border customs and toll at the AP-8 - A-63 motorway to the west of the actual village, often jammed with vehicles and long queues.

The Château d'Abbadia, also Château d'Abbadie, is a neogothic château situated in Hendaye, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France. Built by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and Edmond Duthoit, both patronized by the explorer Antoine d'Abbadie, between 1864 and 1879, it is classified as a historic monument and "Maison des Illustres". The scientific collections, archives and furniture are all authentic and make up a considerable cultural heritage of the 19th century.

Les Deux-Jumeaux (formerly Hendaye-Plage) is a railway station in Hendaye, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The station is located on the Bordeaux–Irun railway line. The station is served by TER (local) services operated by the SNCF.

Hendaye (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃daj]; Basque: Hendaia, Spanish: Hendaya) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department and Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwestern France.The town, Metropolitan France's most southwesterly and a popular seaside tourist resort, stands on the right bank of the River Bidassoa – which marks the Franco-Spanish border – at the point where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean in the French Basque Country. Hendaye has three distinguishable parts: la ville (the town), which stretches from Saint Vincent's church to the area around the SNCF railway station and the industrial zone; la plage (the beach), the seaside quarter; and les hauteurs (the heights), the villas and camping sites on the hills between and behind the other two areas.

The Great Cross of Hendaye (French: Croix d'Hendaye) is a stone cross located on the town square of Hendaye, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in southwestern France. The cross includes references to apocalyptic beliefs about Christianity, Rosicrucianism, and alchemy. Many, including devotees of Nostradamus, the Bible Code, and especially the 2012 phenomenon, believed that a great comet would pass by, or crash into the earth in the year 2012, and interpreted the Cross of Hendaye as another reminder that 2012 would be the end.

The Bay of Txingudi (Basque: Txingudiko badia, French: Baie de Chingoudy, Spanish: Bahía de Chingudi) is a bay in the right or French bank of the estuary of the Bidasoa river, near Hendaye in the département of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in south-west France. It faces the town of Hondarribia and the airport of San Sebastián in the Gipuzkoa province of the Basque Country, in north-eastern Spain. The border between the two countries passes through the Bidasoa estuary. It is an important area for bird-watching.The name may, by extension, be applied to the whole body of water between the French and Spanish sides. The coastal marshes on the Spanish side have been designated as a protected Ramsar site since 2002.

Hendaye station (French: Gare d'Hendaye) is a railway station in Hendaye, France, on the Bordeaux-Irun and Madrid-Hendaye lines. The station is served by TGV high speed trains, Intercités de nuit night trains, Intercités long distance and TER local services operated by the SNCF, Trenhotel and Arco services operated by RENFE, and EuskoTren services. The Euskotren 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge services operate from a station on the forecourt of the SNCF station, for which separate ticketing is required. The station is a border railway station where all trains have to stop, as those coming from/going into Spain have to change gauge from 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge to 1,668 mm (5 ft 5+21⁄32 in) Iberian gauge. The electric supply also changes here from 1500 V DC (overhead France) to 3000 V DC (overhead Spain). Between the stations of Hendaye and Irun, both track gauges run together.
