Ordnance Survey (OS) is the national mapping agency for Great Britain. The agency's name indicates its original military purpose (see ordnance and surveying), which was to map Scotland in the wake of the Jacobite rising of 1745. There was also a more general and nationwide need in light of the potential threat of invasion during the Napoleonic Wars. Since 1 April 2015 Ordnance Survey has operated as Ordnance Survey Ltd, a government-owned company, 100% in public ownership. The Ordnance Survey Board remains accountable to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. It was also a member of the Public Data Group. Paper maps for walkers represent only 5% of the company's annual revenue. It produces digital map data, online route planning and sharing services and mobile apps, plus many other location-based products for business, government and consumers. Ordnance Survey mapping is usually classified as either "large-scale" (in other words, more detailed) or "small-scale". The Survey's large-scale mapping comprises 1:2,500 maps for urban areas and 1:10,000 more generally. (The latter superseded the 1:10,560 "six inches to the mile" scale in the 1950s.) These large scale maps are typically used in professional land-use contexts and were available as sheets until the 1980s, when they were digitised. Small-scale mapping for leisure use includes the 1:25,000 "Explorer" series, the 1:50,000 "Landranger" series and the 1:250,000 road maps. These are still available in traditional sheet form. Ordnance Survey maps remain in copyright for fifty years after their publication. Some of the Copyright Libraries hold complete or near-complete collections of pre-digital OS mapping.

Solent University Football Club are a football club attached to Solent University, and are based in Southampton, Hampshire. The club is affiliated to the Hampshire Football Association, is a FA Charter Standard club and from 2011 to 2020 were members of the Wessex League.

Nursling is a village in Hampshire, England, situated in the parish of Nursling and Rownhams, about 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) north-west of the city of Southampton. Formerly called Nhutscelle (in an 8th-century life of Saint Boniface), then Nutsall, Nutshalling or Nutshullyng until the mid-19th century, it has now been absorbed into the suburbs of Southampton, although it is not officially part of the city (remaining part of the Test Valley borough).

Oasis Academy Lord's Hill is an Academy situated in the city of Southampton, Hampshire and specialises in Arts. Oasis Academy Lord's Hill replaced Millbrook Community School and Oaklands Community School which both closed in August 2008.

Millbrook Community School was a secondary school in Southampton, England. The school was situated close to the west border of the city - formerly Millbrook Secondary School for Boys and attracted pupils from several surrounding areas.In early 1997 the school was granted a Sports Lottery Board award of £1.53 million. From late summer 1998 the local community and pupils were able to use some additional facilities in the school. These included: floodlit courts, a sports hall, a gymnasium with a sprung wooden floor, a fully equipped fitness suite, a meeting room, a community lounge, offices and a reception area. All these areas were accessible to people with disabilities. The school was last inspected by OFSTED in September 2006. As part of Southampton City Council's review of secondary schooling in the city, called Learning Futures, the school closed in September 2008. From September 2008 the school site has acted as the lower school of Oasis Academy Lord's Hill, while the former Oaklands Community School site is the upper school, until new premises are built around 2012, when both existing sites will close.

Oaklands Community School was a mixed comprehensive school in west Southampton, Hampshire, in the south of England. The school served the Lordshill community from 1983 to 2008 for 11 to 16-year-olds. In its later years during 2005 and 2008 it became a specialist Arts College. The most recent Ofsted inspection was 27 September 2004, when the school was praised, the introduction to the report reading "Oaklands Community School is a very good school. Its exceptional egalitarian ethos ensures that all students are treated with care, respect and encouragement. Very strong leadership, a commitment to equality of opportunity, improvement and raised standards combined with a good quality of education for all students result in a school which provides good value for money."According to the Department of Education performance tables, the school obtained the fourth-highest CVA score in the city. This is a new, complex Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 contextual value added (CVA) score designed to show the progress children have made. This is done by comparing their achievements with those of other pupils nationally who had the same or similar prior attainment in their test results at age 10 or 11 in 2001.

Upton is a hamlet in Hampshire, England, located approximately 1 mile north of Nursling. It lies beside the main Romsey Road (A3057) leading north from Shirley as it rises over Horns Hill. In the 19th century the hamlet consisted of one or two cottages and a smithy, as well as country house known as Upton House. The housing development of Upton Crescent was built in the 1930s on the site of the former Upton House. The hamlet is near the starting point of the M271 motorway.

Rownhams is a village in Hampshire, England, situated just outside the boundaries of the City of Southampton, to the north-west. It is in the civil parish of Nursling and Rownhams. Rownhams services is a nearby service station on the M27 motorway that runs to the north of the village. The village consists of over 1200 homes. Rownhams house, a Georgian mansion, is now a business park and wedding venue, The parish church is St John the Evangelist. There is a community centre, a primary school, two pre-schools and a hairdressing salon. The village is planned to grow in the next few years as several planning applications are either in the system or have been approved. For many years the parish and village has been combined with Nursling and also Toothill, which were once separate independent villages. Hence, for example, the churches are joined in the joint parish of Nursling and Rownhams with one incumbent and run by one parochial church council.The village has been twinned with the village of Percy-en-Auge in Normandy since 1988.Many of the activities and facilities are shared between Rownhams and Nursling, e.g. Ladies' night, two Brownie packs, a full set of groups of Scouts, a friendship club for "senior residents", Retired Men's Fellowship and a toddler group. Also a badminton club, an amateur astronomers' group, who use an observatory at Toothill, a writers' group, "Coffee Break" - a drop in for anybody home alone, a carer or being cared for in the community, and a dance school.

Redbridge Community School is a mixed secondary school in west Southampton, Hampshire, in the south of England. The school previously held specialist school status as Sports College. Today it is a foundation school administered by Southampton City Council and the Reach Cooperative Trust.

The Atherley School was an independent girls' school based in Southampton, Hampshire, England, from 1926 - 2006 until it merged with Embley Park school to become Hampshire Collegiate School.

Maybush is a district in the city of Southampton, England. Located in the western side of the city, Maybush is the former location of the Ordnance Survey head office and approximately occupies the SU3814 kilometer square. It is in the Southampton Test parliamentary constituency.
