Madalena is a former civil parish in the municipality of Tomar, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Madalena e Beselga. It has a total area of 30.56 km² and a population of 3,466 inhabitants (2001). Its population density is 113.4 people per km². The parish includes the following villages: Caldelas, Caniçal, Carvalhal Grande, Carvalhal Pequeno, Cem Soldos, Charneca do Maxial, Madalena, Maxial, Paço da Comenda, Porto da Lage, Porto Mendo and São Miguel. According to Pinho Leal in "Portugal Antigo e Moderno" (Portugal Past and Present), the parish was heavily populated in the Roman era. For this author the modern Caldelas is built upon the site of the ancient city of the same name. Other writers say that Caldele was the exact name of the Roman city.

Madalena e Beselga is a civil parish in the municipality of Tomar, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Madalena and Beselga. The population in 2011 was 3,990, in an area of 44.44 km².

The Convent of Christ Aqueduct, also known as the Pegões Aqueduct, was built to supply water to the Convent of Christ in Tomar from four different springs. It is approximately 6 km long. Its construction began in 1593, during the reign of Philip I of Portugal, under the direction of Filippo Terzi, the chief architect of Portugal, and was completed in 1614 by Pedro Fernando de Torres. The aqueduct has been classified as a National Monument since 1910 and was used until the mid-20th century.

The Tomar Castle is a castle in Portugal, where it is classified as a national monument. The Convento de Cristo was built inside its walls. The castle was built by King Afonso Henriques around 1160 on a strategic location, over a hill and near river Nabão. It has an outer defensive wall and a citadel (alcáçova) with a keep inside. The keep, a central tower of residential and defensive functions, was introduced in Portugal by the Templars, and the one in Tomar is one of the oldest in the country. Another novelty introduced in Portugal by the Templars (learned from decades of experience in Normandy and Brittany and elsewhere) are the round towers in the outer walls, which are more resistant to attacks than square towers. When the town was founded, most of its residents lived in dwellings located inside the protective outer walls of the castle. Tomar was besieged for five days during the Almohad campaign of 1190.

The Comunidade Intermunicipal do Médio Tejo (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈmɛðju ˈtɛʒu]; English: Middle Tagus) is an administrative division in Portugal. It was created in December 2008, replacing the former Comunidade Urbana do Médio Tejo created in 2004. It takes its name from the river Tagus. Médio Tejo is also a NUTS 3 subregion of Centro Region: since January 2015, the NUTS 3 subregion has covered the same area as the intermunicipal community. The seat of the intermunicipal community is Tomar. Médio Tejo comprises parts of the former districts of Santarém and Castelo Branco. The population in 2011 was 247,331, in an area of 3,344.31 square kilometres (1,291.25 sq mi).

Tomar (Portuguese pronunciation: [tuˈmaɾ] ), also known in English as Thomar (the ancient name of Tomar), is a city and a municipality in the Santarém district of Portugal. The town proper has a population of about 20,000. The municipality population in 2011 was 40,677, in an area of 351.20 km2 (135.60 sq mi).The town of Tomar was created inside the walls of the Convento de Cristo, constructed under the orders of Gualdim de Pais, the fourth Grand Master of the Knights Templar in Portugal in the late 12th century. Tomar was the last Templar town to be commissioned for construction and one of Portugal's historical jewels. The town was especially important in the 15th century when it was a center of Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator, the Grand Master of the Order of Christ, successor organization to the Knights Templar in Portugal.

The Convent of Christ (Portuguese: Convento de Cristo/Mosteiro de Cristo) is a former Catholic convent in Tomar, Portugal. Originally a 12th-century Templar stronghold, when the order was dissolved in the 14th century the Portuguese branch was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ, that later supported Portugal's maritime discoveries of the 15th century. The convent and castle complex are a historic and cultural monument and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

The Synagogue of Tomar (Portuguese: Sinagoga de Tomar) is a well-preserved medieval synagogue in Tomar, Portugal. Along with the Synagogue of Castelo de Vide, it is one of two existing pre-expulsion synagogues in the country. It is located at 73 Rua Dr. Joaquim Jaquinto in Tomar's historic city center. Built in the mid-1400s, the building was active as a synagogue only until 1496, when Jews were expelled from Portugal. It now houses the Abraham Zacuto Portuguese Jewish Museum (Portuguese: Museu Luso-Hebraico Abraão Zacuto).

The Church of Atalaia (Portuguese: Igreja da Atalaia) is a church in the civil parish of Atalaia, municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha, in the Centro region of Portugal. The Renaissance-era religious building, has been molded by successive layers of Mannerist and Baroque decorative and structural elements, that include the portico, but whose origin dates to the Gothic architecture of the early 16th century (that includes the roofing, vaulted-ceilings and two-level presbytery). The unique central tower, Baroque azulejo tile-work and 16th century pulpit are important characteristics of this parish church.
