The Downie Hills are a small range of hills in Angus, Scotland, approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the North of Carnoustie. At their highest point is the summit of Camustane Hill, where lies the Panmure Testimonial. To the east of this is a tree-lined avenue that leads via the Camus Cross to the former site of Panmure House.

The Panmure Testimonial, otherwise known as the Live and Let Live Memorial, is a monument in Angus, Scotland. It was erected in 1839 to commemorate the generosity of William Maule, the 2nd Earl of Panmure (later 1st Baron of Panmure) during the 'year of short corn' in 1826, a year in which an unusually hot and dry summer led to severe food shortages. In response, Lord Panmure suspended the collection of rent from his tenant farmers. The monument was paid for in full by the tenant farmers.The monument was designed by architect John Henderson, and is protected as a category B listed building.

The Camus Cross, otherwise known as the Camuston or Camustane Cross, is an Early Medieval Scottish standing stone on the Panmure Estate near Carnoustie in Angus, Scotland. First recorded in the 15th century in a legal document describing the boundaries between Camuston and the barony of Downie, and described in the 17th century by Robert Maule, it is a freestanding cross, rare in Eastern Scotland. The cross is thought to date from the 10th century, and exhibits distinctive Hiberno-Scottish mission influences, in common with several other monuments in the area. Tradition and folk etymology suggest that the cross marked the burial site of Camus, leader of the Norse army purportedly defeated by King Malcolm II at the apocryphal Battle of Barry. The name of the stone is likely to derive from the extinct village of Camuston, which has a Celtic toponymy.

Carlungie and Ardestie Earthhouses can be found in farmland north of Monifieth and Carnoustie. They date to the late Iron Age, from the 1st to 2nd centuries AD. They are examples of souterrains, probably used to store food.

Camuston was a village that once existed in Angus, Scotland until the late 18th/early 19th centuries. No trace of it can be found today, but its former location on land between Panmure House and Camustane Hill can be seen for example in the 1794 map by Ainslie, about half a mile to the East of the Camus Cross Camuston can be found with earlier spelling variations, for example, 'Cambistown' as it is called in documents from 1425–6, and has a Celtic rather than Scandinavian etymology.

Monikie is a village and civil parish in Angus, Scotland, north-east of Dundee.

Newbigging is a village in Angus, Scotland, two miles (three kilometres) northeast of Dundee. The name "Newbigging" originally referred to a "new bigging" or "new cottar town" (hamlet). The village is roughly two miles (three kilometres) north of Monifieth. Some of the earliest history of the local area is represented approximately four kilometres northwest at the village of Eassie, where the Eassie Stone is displayed in a ruined church; this carved Pictish stone is dated prior to the Early Middle Ages.

Affleck Castle, also known as Auchenleck Castle, is a tall L-plan tower house dating from the 15th century, 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Monifieth and 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Monikie Parish Church, Angus, Scotland. It is a scheduled monument. It is not open to the public.

Woodhill is a settlement in Angus, Scotland. It lies at a central point between Carnoustie and Monifieth on the east on an unclassified road linking the A92 and A930 roads. Woodhill House was erected in 1604 by William Auchinleck, who later became Provost of Dundee. It was demolished and rebuilt in 1908.The area has been occupied since the Neolithic period, as evidenced by a Cursus monument, identified from cropmarks, as well as Bronze Age short cist burials that are found periodically.

Dundee East is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (at Westminster). Created for the 1950 general election, it elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system. This is one of the safest SNP seats. Since 2005, Stewart Hosie of the Scottish National Party has served as the MP for the constituency. On 14 November 2014, Hosie was elected as Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party, succeeding Nicola Sturgeon, who was elected as the party leader; Hosie served as Deputy Leader until 13 October 2016. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to boundary changes, gaining the town of Arbroath and surrounding areas, partly offset by the loss of parts of East End, Maryfield and Strathmartine from the Dundee City council area which will move to Dundee Central. As a consequence, Dundee East will be renamed Arbroath and Broughty Ferry, to be first contested at the next general election.

Panmure House was a 17th-century country house in the Parish of Panbride, Angus, Scotland, 4 miles (6 km) to the north of Carnoustie. It was the seat of the Earl of Panmure. It was rebuilt in the 19th century, and demolished in 1955.

The A930 is a single carriageway road in Angus, Scotland. It runs from Dundee to Carnoustie. Starting at its junction with the A92 road in Craigie, Dundee, it runs east through West Ferry, Broughty Ferry, Barnhill and Monifieth. It then passes through countryside north of the Buddon Ness, past Barry (through which it passed until 2003 on the construction of the bypass), to Carnoustie. It forms the main thoroughfare in Carnoustie and turns north at the eastern end of the town, heading north towards Muirdrum. The road is a single carriageway along its entire length.
