Thornton is a name sometimes used for part of a suburb in western Hamilton in New Zealand.Aldershot Place, Arundel Place, Dorchester Place, Farnborough Drive, Hadrians Way, Highbury Place, Sandhurst Place, Twickenham Place, Wembley Close and Wimbledon Close were named in 1997 by Thornton Estates Ltd., the developer, using English place names. They are more usually described as being in Nawton and are in the Nawton West census area.

Western Heights is a suburb on the western boundary of the city of Hamilton in the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand.Skyline landmarks include Dinsdale water reservoir, the adjacent Newcastle reservoir, one of the largest in the city holding 21,000 m3 (740,000 cu ft), and a block of gum trees. As these mature many have had to be culled.Google Earth maps highlight the area as the most clearly defined block to Hamilton's west. Situated as it is to the west of the ridge on the city's boundary, the suburb is a little exposed to wind but the views are good.Hamilton Boundary Road was renamed Brymer Road by Waipa County Council in 1967, after Mr Brymer, a local property owner. In 2007 $865,000 was spent widening it to become the main road through Western Heights. In 2018 it was used by 3,600 vehicles a day, 60 of them buses on the half hourly route 3. Crawshaw is a compact suburb, close to Te Rapa railway depot, in western Hamilton in New Zealand, and extended in the 2018 census to cover 0.86 km2 (210 acres). Although sometimes referred to as a suburb in its own right, it is often described as being part of Nawton.The southern part of the suburb was developed about 1913, but the northern in the 1960s and 1970s. Housing New Zealand properties, tenanted by low income families have been reported to make up a majority of homes.Crawshaw Park was created between 1979 and 1985. It covers 3.1 ha (7.7 acres), includes some remnant kahikateas and forms a link in a green chain through Mooney Park, Bishops Lane Reserve, Crawshaw Park and Dominion Park.

The Hamilton Astronomical Society Observatory is located next to the Hamilton Zoo in Brymer Road to the west of Hamilton City, New Zealand. The Hamilton Astronomical Society was founded on 3 July, 1933 and is one of New Zealand's oldest astronomical societies.The observatory instruments include two radio telescopes (32'/10m and 26'/8m diameter), and a range of optical instruments, including one 24" Classical cassegrain telescope, a 14" and 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, and one 12" Dobsonian telescope.The observatory is open to the public on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 7:30pm (8:30pm during daylight saving).

Hamilton Zoo (Māori: Rawhi Whakaaturanga o Kirikiriroa) is the main zoological garden of Hamilton, New Zealand. Covering 25 hectares (62 acres), it is situated on Brymer Road in the Hamilton suburb of Rotokauri, on the outskirts of the metropolitan area towards the northwest. It is owned by the Hamilton City Council with the Department of Recreation and Welfare handling the day-to-day running of the site. Hamilton Zoo is the first zoo in New Zealand to become fully accredited by the Zoo and Aquarium Association.

Livingstone is a suburb in western Hamilton in New Zealand. J Livingstone, who the suburb is named after, owned and subdivided a large proportion of the area in 1916. The suburb became a part of Hamilton in 1962.It is usually described as part of Nawton, Nawton Primary School is on Livingstone Avenue and it is in Nawton East census area.

Fraser High School (FHS) is a secondary school in Hamilton, New Zealand. The school began in 1920 as Hamilton Technical Day School (later amended to Hamilton's Technical High School in 1924).

Stonebridge, also known as Stonebridge Estate, is a suburb close to the western boundary of Hamilton in New Zealand. It adjoins Dinsdale to the east and Western Heights to the north. The suburb was farmland until development began about 1996; a large farming operation still takes place in the land between sections today. The land is mainly rolling with a winding gully. Developers have modified the existing vegetation and landscape to create a series of ponds connected by a creek.In 2013 meshblock 0978002 had a population of 93 living in 33 houses.

Dinsdale is the westernmost suburb of Hamilton in New Zealand. Originally called Frankton West, it was renamed in July 1961 after Thomas Dinsdale. Dinsdale grew rapidly in the 1960s. It is located around a low ridge with some views westward to open farm land. It has a large sports ground and shopping complex with a supermarket, shops and Dinsdale Library, one of the branches of the Hamilton City Libraries. The community church of West Hamilton is located in the suburb.

Rotokauri is a semi-rural suburb split between western Hamilton and Waikato District in New Zealand. It is one of the future urban zones of Hamilton, along with Peacocke. The northeastern parts of Rotokauri, within Hamilton, are sometimes called Burbush and Baverstock. Part of Rotokauri was taken into Hamilton with the 10th city extension in November 1989. Until then it had been in the Waipa County Council area.The outskirts of Rotokauri have an impressive orchid farm, all under glass, exporting blooms across the world, and providing ample local employment. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "kauri tree lake" for Rotokauri. Prior to the 1863 invasion of the Waikato the area was occupied by Ngāti Koura, Ngāti Ruru and Ngāti Ngamurikaitaua, all being Tainui hapū.

The Waikato Times is a daily newspaper published in Hamilton, New Zealand and owned by media business Stuff Ltd. It has a circulation to the greater Waikato region and became a tabloid paper in 2018.The newspaper has won the title of New Zealand Newspaper of the Year (in the category of up to 30,000 circulation) for two consecutive years: 2018 and 2019.
