Bilzen-Hoeselt is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. It will be established on 1 January 2025 as the result of the voluntary merger of the municipalities of Bilzen and Hoeselt. The merged municipality will have an area of 106 km² and will have approximately 42,000 inhabitants. It is one of the 14 municipalities that will be created during the merger wave of 2025. Initially, Riemst was also involved in the exploratory discussions for the merger, but in 2021, the municipal council of the latter decided to remain independent. The municipal authorities of Bilzen and Hoeselt then continued as two. On 28 June 2021, the municipal councils of Bilzen and Hoeselt approved the principle of the merger of the two municipalities. The two municipalities will merge on 1 January 2025. The residents chose "Bilzen-Hoeselt" as the new name for the merged municipality via an online vote. This beat the options Biesen, Demershoven and Bivelen with 57% of the votes. The merger took effect after the municipal elections on 13 October 2024.

Hoeselt (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦusəlt]; Limburgish: Hoeiselt) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1, 2018, Hoeselt had a total population of 9,685. The total area is 30.02 km2 which gives a population density of 323 inhabitants per km2. Situated close to the "Roman" Tongeren, many traces from the Roman empire were found in the fertile soil of Hoeselt. In 1066, this village came under the surveillance of Hoei; it was in that time still named Housle (from hus and lo, meaning house by the forest). These forests of Hoeselt were cultivated in the 12th and 13th century. Later, Hoeselt was part of the Frankish Kingdom; and then its territory fell under the Bishop of Liège. The old centre of Hoeselt, with its triangular shape, and the motheuvel (motte hill), both show the influence of its Frankish past.

Genk Body & Assembly was a Ford Motor Company automobile factory in Genk, Belgium, just over an hour to the west of the company's European head office in Cologne, Germany. The site spanned 6,135,630 square feet (140.9 acres). The plant employed approx 4,300 workers in 2014.The plant opened in the early 1960s. The first mainstream car built there was Ford's first front wheel drive volume model, the Ford Taunus P4. Later on the plant focused on producing mid-sized family cars including the company's Sierra and Mondeo models.

The Arrondissement of Tongeren (Dutch: Arrondissement Tongeren; French: Arrondissement de Tongres) is one of the three administrative arrondissements in the Province of Limburg, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. However, the Judicial Arrondissement of Tongeren comprises the municipalities of Tongeren, Bocholt, Bree, Kinrooi, Meeuwen-Gruitrode, Dilsen-Stokkem and Maaseik in the Arrondissement of Maaseik and the municipalities of As, Genk, Opglabbeek and Zutendaal in the Arrondissement of Hasselt. The arrondissement was created in 1839 to form the Belgian part of the former arrondissement of Maastricht, which ceased to exist due to the splitting of Limburg. The canton of Borgloon was also moved from the arrondissement of Hasselt to the new arrondissement of Tongeren.

Bilzen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɪlzə(n)] ) is a city and a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. In 2021, Bilzen had a total population of 32,536. The total area is 75.90 km² which gives a population density of 426 inhabitants per km². Bilzen consists of the city of Bilzen and the following villages: Beverst, Eigenbilzen, Grote-Spouwen, Hees, Hoelbeek, Kleine-Spouwen, Martenslinde, Mopertingen, Munsterbilzen, Rijkhoven, Rosmeer, and Waltwilder. It was in 1977 that they all became part of the municipality Bilzen because of the fusion of municipalities. Cities in Bilzen's neighbourhood are all within a distance of some 10 to 15 kilometers: to its north, Genk; to its east, Maastricht (Netherlands); to its south Tongeren; and to its north-west, Diepenbeek. From 1965 to 1981 Bilzen hosted Jazz Bilzen, a jazz and rock festival that lasted several days. In its time Jazz Bilzen was the most important Belgian festival. Artists that performed there were, among many others, Humble Pie, The Moody Blues, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Humble Pie, The Kinks, The Troggs, Procol Harum, Golden Earring, Rod Stewart, Status Quo, Lou Reed, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Cure, Toots Thielemans, Keith Jarrett and John McLaughlin. From the 1980s onwards the festival was superseded by Torhout-Werchter, that has now become Rock Werchter.

Munsterbilzen Abbey was an abbey of Benedictine nuns in Munsterbilzen, Limburg, Belgium, founded in around 670 by Saint Landrada. It was plundered by Vikings in 881 but restored. From the 9th century it was dedicated to Saint Amor. It was an imperial abbey of the Holy Roman Empire separately administered from the surrounding County of Loon. The abbess exercised lordship over the village of Munsterbilzen and four more villages nearby until 1773, when she was forced to recognize the suzerainty of the Prince-Bishop of Liège. The abbey was dissolved and its property confiscated at the time of the French Revolution. Dating back to the time of the Merovingian dynasty, it is considered the oldest women's convent in the Greater Netherlands, and, together with the abbey of Sint-Truiden, the abbey of Aldeneik, the abbey of Susteren, and the abbey Rolduc, one of the most important monasteries in the Dutch-speaking part of the diocese of Liège.

ALZ (Allegheny-Longdoz) is a stainless steel producer based in Genk in Limburg province, Flanders, Belgium. In 2001 the company was merged with French stainless steel producer Ugine and in 2006 became part of the ArcelorMittal group as part of the stainless steel division.

Diepenbeek Castle (Dutch: Kasteel van Diepenbeek, also known as the Rentmeesterij van Alden Biesen) is a castle in Diepenbeek near Hasselt in the province of Limburg, Belgium. The building consists of a 15th-century keep with a 17th-century main block. It was once the establishment of the steward (Dutch: Rentmeester) of the nearby Commandery of Alden Biesen, whence the alternative name.

Diepenbeek railway station is a railway stop on the Hasselt–Liège railway in the Belgian municipality of Diepenbeek. The station was opened in 1856 along the new railway line between Hasselt and Maastricht. In the end of the 1950s, the station lost importance and was closed. After the Limburg University Center was established near the former station in 1973, there was an increasing demand from students to reopen the station. This finally happened in 1991, when a stop was opened at the site of the former station. In the context of the Spartacus plan, all level crossings in Diepenbeek will be removed, including the one in Stationsstraat. They will be replaced by passenger underpasses. In addition, the platforms will be renewed in 2021 and raised to the new standard of 76 centimetres (30 in).

Diepenbeek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdipə(m)beːk] ; Limburgish: Diepenbik) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg near Hasselt. On January 1, 2012, Diepenbeek had a total population of 18,337. Its total area is 41.19 km² (15.9 sq mi) which gives a population density of 430 inhabitants per km² (1,203/sq mi). The municipality includes the communities and hamlets of Bijenberg, het Crijt, Dorpheide, Keizel, Lutselus, Pampert, Piannesberg, Reitje, Rooierheide, Rozendaal, and Zwartveld. It is home to Hasselt University, slowly expanding towards Hasselt itself. The Limburg Science Park is located on the university campus.
