Port Salford is a proposed tram stop for Greater Manchester's Metrolink light rail system, which if established will serve passengers boarding and alighting at Port Salford. The line has so far been constructed as far as The Trafford Centre but this stop is not yet a committed scheme.

Port Salford is a freight terminal on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Barton-upon-Irwell, Greater Manchester, England, 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Manchester city centre. The port is part of the Atlantic Gateway project and its construction was led by Peel Ports, a subsidiary of the Peel Group, and was opened in 2016.Port Salford cost £400 million to construct.

Salford City Academy (formerly Canon Williamson C.E. High School, and before that Eccles C.E. High School) is a state comprehensive high school and academy situated in the Peel Green area of Eccles, in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. Salford City Academy opened in 2006 after substantial redevelopment. The school is sponsored by United Learning, the largest multi academy trust in the UK. The academy was shortlisted for Secondary School of the Year for the National TES Awards in 2021, the principal Ms Melanie Haselden was also shortlisted for Headteacher of the Year in the same awards. In February 2021, due to the demand for student places at Salford City Academy the academy was given planning permission to extend the dining space to double in size and refurbish several learning spaces such as Drama, Music and Technology to make the areas more practical. Building work began in July 2021 and will continue through to May 2022. This sixth form is now no longer used as a sixth form, but is now known as ‘The Irwell Building’ where classes, reflect (internal exclusion), and extra space is accessible.

Salford City Stadium (referred to as the AJ Bell Stadium for sponsorship purposes) is a rugby stadium in Barton-upon-Irwell, England, built to replace Salford rugby league club's ground the Willows for the 2012 season. Sale Sharks rugby union club have also played at the stadium since the 2012–13 season.

Davyhulme Sewage Works is the main waste water treatment works for the city of Manchester, England, and one of the largest in Europe. It was opened in 1894, and has pioneered the improvement of treatment processes. With the growth of population in the late nineteenth century, and the proliferation of water closets, the rivers around Manchester were becoming grossly polluted, and the City of Manchester decided to build two deep level sewers to intercept existing sewers. When the first one reached Davyhulme, further extension was blocked by the Manchester Ship Canal, and so a treatment works was built there. The works used precipitation tanks, and a 3 ft (914 mm) gauge tramway was built, to facilitate the movement of materials around the site. The first steam locomotive was acquired in 1897, and a further fourteen steam and two diesel locomotives operated on the system before its closure in 1958. Treated sludge was loaded into ships and discharged into the Mersey estuary from 1898. Over the next hundred years, seven ships were used to transport the sludge, including one borrowed from Glasgow after another hit a mine and sank. At first, ships used the ship canal to transport sludge from the works, but later a pipeline was built to Liverpool, and the ships made a much shorter journey. An early feature was a laboratory, where trials of various types of filter were carried out, and incoming effluent was analysed. Attempts to improve the treatment process proved successful in 1914, when two chemists, Ardern and Lockett, discovered the Activated Sludge Process, which was soon in use worldwide. A second deep level sewer, started in 1911, eventually reached the works in 1928, and to cope with the increased flows, half of the sewage was fed into a new Activated Sludge plant. Three separate operating systems were installed, so that comparisons on their efficiency could be made. A second Activated Sludge plant was built between 1955 and 1966, and the control system on the first was upgraded between 1970 and 1973. In 1974, the Rivers Committee, which had managed the site since its inception, ceased to be, when water and sewage treatment became the responsibility of the newly formed North West Water Authority. The organisation was subsequently privatised, and became part of United Utilities in 1995. In order to meet demands for better water quality, a pilot Biostyr plant was built in 1992, and a much larger one was completed in 1998. Innovation continued, with the commissioning of the world's largest thermal hydrolysis plant in 2013, using a new process to break down sludge, which generates methane as a by-product, enabling the site to be self-sufficient for gas and electricity. An upgrade to the Activated Sludge plant began in 2014, and is expected to be completed in 2018.

Flixton F.C. were an English football club based in Flixton, near Urmston in Greater Manchester. They played in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division until 2012 when they resigned from the league. In the late 1990s they spent some time in the Northern Premier League. Previously they had also played in the Manchester League, the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League and the South Manchester and Wythenshawe League. They were members of the Manchester Football Association. They most recently played their home games at Valley Road in Flixton.

Irlam was an electoral ward of Salford, England. It was represented in Westminster by the constituency of Worsley and Eccles South. A profile of the ward conducted by Salford City Council in 2014 recorded a population of 9,857.

Wellacre Academy (simply referred to as Wellacre and officially Wellacre Technology Academy, formerly Wellacre Technology College and Urmston Wellacre County Secondary School) is an 11–16 boys, secondary school with academy status in Flixton, Greater Manchester, England. It was formerly a foundation school that was established in 1955 and adopted its present name after becoming an academy in 2011. The school had a sixth form that was established in 2009, but closed in 2017 due to a small number of students enrolling, resulting in it not being financially sustainable. It is noted for having more solar panels than any other school in Great Britain.

Flixton is a suburb and electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 10,786. It lies six miles (9.7 km) southwest of Manchester city centre, in the historic county of Lancashire. Neolithic and Bronze Age artefacts have been found locally and the area may have been inhabited then. Medieval Flixton was a parish within the Hundred of Salford and manor of Flixton, first mentioned in the 12th century. The parish comprised isolated farmsteads and a manor house. Toward the end of the 17th century its population began to rise, continuing through the 19th century, although at a much slower pace than its neighbours. Flixton was a remote rural area with few transport links and did not witness the level of industrialisation other parts of Manchester saw, but its connection to the railway network in 1873 helped transform the area into a middle-class suburb. Flixton is represented in Parliament by Labour MP Andrew Western.

St Patrick's RC High School is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school in the Peel Green area of Eccles, Greater Manchester, England.Established in 1957, St. Patrick's was re-organised as a comprehensive school in 1977. It is a voluntary aided school administered by Salford City Council and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford. The school moved into a new building in 2013 as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.St Patrick's RC High School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. The school is named after Saint Patrick, a 5th-century Christian missionary and the first Bishop of Armagh in Ireland.
