Dent du Chat

Molard Noir is a mountain of Savoie, France. It lies in the Jura range. It has an elevation of 1,452 metres above sea level.

The Signal du Mont du Chat is a mountain in the Jura Mountains with an altitude of 1,504 metres, in France. It is situated in Savoie, west of Le Bourget-du-Lac.

Champrovent is a small village located in Savoie, France on the western foot of a mountain called Mont du Chat. It is located on the territory of the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu. From Chambéry, the main city of Savoie, to join Champrovent, you should drive on the road to Lyon by the Chat tunnel. After crossing the tunnel, you should turn left in a village called Chevelu where a sign indicated Vernatel and Champrovent. This last village is located a few hundred meters away. Champrovent is famous due to the stay there of the French painter Balthus during World War II. The main building in the village is a farm built in the 17th century. When the northern part of France was invaded by Germany, in June 1941, he decided to live there where he painted Paysage de Champrovent and two versions of Le Salon. The first version is located in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the second is in the collections of MOMA in New York. Balthus left Champrovent to Switzerland in 1942.

The Col du Chat is a mountain pass located in France, in the commune of La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Chat, in the French department of Savoie in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It crosses the Mont du Chat in the Jura Mountains, overlooking Lac du Bourget opposite the town of Aix-les-Bains. Although it has never been crossed by a main transalpine route, the pass has been crossed by a road since ancient times, and its use has often gone beyond the strictly local, at least until the Chat tunnel was opened: Montaigne, for example, used it on his way back from Italy. Today, it is used mainly by tourists, as a climb for cyclists, or as a starting point for hikes to Mont du Chat. Because of the region's particular flora and fauna, the pass is located within the perimeter of and close to natural zones of ecological, faunal and floristic interest and Natura 2000 reserves. The pass is open all year round, with no winter shutdowns.
