Hartsdale was a town in St. John Township, Lake County, Indiana, United States. It was part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Hartsdale was annexed by Schererville, Indiana, in 1911.

St. John Township is one of eleven townships in Lake County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 66,741 and it contained 25,691 housing units.

Meyer's Castle or the Joseph Ernest Meyer House is a former private residence in the town of Dyer, Indiana in the United States. The castle was constructed from 1927 to 1931 in the Jacobethan style by architect Cosbey Bernard, Sr. The house was built for Joseph Ernest Meyer as his private residence, a herbologist and one of Hammond's first millionaires. The building now serves as a special events venue and is also home to "Rivelli", an Italian steakhouse.The castle was built as a replica of a Scottish castle Meyer had once seen. When it was completed in 1931, the Meyer's Castle was the largest and most lavish mansion in the surrounding Calumet region. Its location in the forested area allowed Meyer to continue his practice of herbology. The hill on which the estate sits atop of is called "Indian Hill" due to the many Sauk and Potowami artifacts found in and around the vicinity. It is also one of the highest points in Lake County, IN. Joseph Meyer lived in Meyer's Castle until his death in 1950, leaving the castle to his wife Cecilia, who lived there for several years after his death. After the death of Cecilia Meyer in 1975, the entire castle grounds and complex was sold to the East Dyer Development Company, which subsequently became today's Castlewood Subdivision of Dyer. The castle was purchased from the town of Dyer by Cynthia and Charles Curry and later sold. The property was purchased in 1987. At the time of purchase, the property was in an abandoned and dilapidated state. It was renovated and returned to its original majestic state. They now operate the property as a special events venue and along with a reservation only restaurant. Visitors are welcomed by peacocks that roam the grounds.

Lake Central School Corporation is a public school district in St. John Township, Indiana.

Lake Central High School (LCHS) is a high school in St. John, Indiana, for students in grades nine through twelve. Its students come from St. John Township which includes the towns of St. John and Dyer (north of 101st Ave), the entire town of Schererville, unincorporated Crown Point (north of 101st Ave), and the southeastern section of Griffith that is within St. John Township. It is the only high school in the Lake Central School Corporation.

Briar Ridge is a gated, upscale residential community partly in Dyer and partly in Schererville, in Lake County, Indiana. The neighborhood has a golf course, a community pool, and a dining hall.

Hoosier Prairie is a unit of Indiana Dunes National Park in Lake County, Indiana. It began in the 1970s as wasteland that conservation organization found of a unique interest. From a core of 304 acres (123 ha), it has grown to 1,547 acres (626 ha) of important prairie habitat. The area was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974 and a State Nature Preserve in 1977 The sandy soil creates a variety of habitats, from oak barrens, wet prairie, including sedge meadows and prairie marshes. More than 350 native species of vascular plants have been identified. A minimum of 43 species are uncommon in the State of Indiana.

Dyer ( DY-ər) is a town in St. John Township, Lake County, Indiana, United States. The population was 16,517 at the 2020 census. It is a southeastern suburb of Chicago.

Francis P. Keilman House is a historic home located at St. John, Lake County, Indiana. It was built about 1857, and is a two-story, side hall plan balloon frame dwelling with Italianate style design elements. It has a front gable roof and a rear addition built about 1900. Also on the property are the contributing wood frame stable (c. 1890) with a garage addition (c. 1940) and a wood frame rabbit hutch (c. 1940).: 3 It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

St. John the Evangelist Parish is a Roman Catholic church located in St. John, Indiana, United States. The Church was the first church in Lake County and was founded in 1839 by German immigrant John Hack. The present church has 1,335 families that belong to the parish. St. John the Evangelist Parish also has a private school called St. John the Evangelist School. The school contains grades pre-K through eight and has over 300 students enrolled.

Dyer station is an Amtrak station in Dyer, Indiana, served by the Cardinal route. Dyer Station was merely a sheltered platform and a little shelter with just seats before a renovation in 2014, which demolished the 1970s era "Amshack" shelter, built a larger station house which was ADA accessible, and repaved the platform and parking lot. It is located near an at-grade crossing of two railroad lines; CSX (formerly the Monon Railroad) and the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern. The original depot stood at the diamond junction itself.
