Llanfihangel Nant Melan

Crug Eryr Castle (Castell Crug Eryr) was a motte and bailey-style castle located atop a hill adjacent to the A44 about 2 miles northwest of Llanfihangel Nant Melan, near New Radnor in Powys, Wales. Crug Eryr, which means "the eagle's mount," was likely situated to block the mountain pass into Maelienydd. The castle's exact origins are unclear, though some scholars believe it belonged to the princes of Maelienydd, considering that Maelgwn ap Cadwallon, 'Prince of Melenia' (i.e. Maelienydd) son of Cadwallon ap Madog, received the Archbishop of Canterbury at Crug Eryr Castle in March 1188. This occasion was an early stop on the Tour of Wales during which the Archbishop was accompanied by Gerald of Wales. This tour was intended as a recruiting campaign of the Third Crusade. The herald-bard Llywelyn Crug Eryr lived here in about 1300.

Gwaunceste Hill (Welsh: Bryn Gwaun-cest) is a 542-metre-high hill in the county of Powys in east Wales. It falls within the communities of Gladestry and Glascwm around 4 km east of the village of Hundred House and about 2 km north of the hamlet of Glascwm. The headwaters of the River Arrow gather on the eastern slopes of the hill. Drainage of its western slopes is into the River Edw, a tributary of the River Wye. Two subsidiary tops to the southeast and southwest are both known as ‘Little Hill’.

New Radnor (Welsh: Maesyfed) is a village in Powys, Wales, to the south of Radnor Forest, and was the county town of Radnorshire. In the 2001 census, the community's population of 410 was split evenly between male and female, in 192 households. The population at the 2011 Census was 409. The community includes the village of Llanfihangel Nant Melan.

New Radnor railway station was a station in New Radnor, Powys, Wales. The terminus station opened in 1875 and closed in 1951. The Kington and Eardisley Railway developed an extension to the Leominster and Kington Railway from Kington, with ambitions to extend a cross-Wales railway line to Aberystwyth. Developing a small station 0.5 miles (0.80 km) from the town, the plans never came to fruition, only allowing services on the Great Western Railway to both Leominster and onwards to London Paddington. The station closed to passengers in February 1951, and freight in December 1951.

New Radnor was, from 1894 to 1974, a rural district in the administrative county of Radnorshire, Wales. The district was formed by the Local Government Act 1894, when the existing Kington Rural Sanitary District was divided into two: the section in Herefordshire was reconstituted as Kington Rural District, while the section in Radnorshire became New Radnor Rural District. The new district took its name from the village of New Radnor, at one time a borough and county town of Radnorshire. The council was based in Kington in Herefordshire until the last few years when it was transferred to Presteigne.The rural district comprised fifteen civil parishes: Colva Ednol Evenjobb Gladestry Glascwm Harpton and Wolfpits Kinnerton, Salford and Badland Llandeglau Llanfihangel Nant Melan Michaelchurch on Arrow New Radnor Newchurch Old Radnor and Burlingjobb Trewern and Gwailtha Walton and WomastonThe district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, which completely reorganised local administration in England and Wales. Its area became part of the District of Radnor in the new county of Powys.

Black Mixen (Welsh: Y Domen Ddu) is a subsidiary summit of Rhos Fawr or Great Rhos in the Radnor Forest. The summit is large peat bog plateau. The summit is marked with a cairn, and is next to a radio transmitter and its building.Black Mixen is the only Nuttall to have a communications mast (a radio transmitter) on its summit. To the east is Bache Hill, to the south are the Black Mountains, to the west is the Great Rhos plateau. The summit cairn is probably of Bronze Age date, with most peaks in the area showing similar barrowss.

Yardro (Welsh: Yr Ardro) is a hamlet in Powys, Wales, in the historic county of Radnorshire. The nearest significant towns are Kington, Herefordshire (over the border in England) and Presteigne (in Powys). New Radnor, which used to be the county town of Radnorshire, is a short distance to the north of Yardro.

Radnor Forest (Welsh: Fforest Clud) is a rock dome composed of Silurian shales, mudstones and limestone in the historic county of Radnorshire, Powys, Mid Wales. It is a forest in the medieval sense of the word (an area of land set aside for hunting). It lies within the Welsh Marches region since Offa's Dyke lies nearby to the east. The area lies to the north of the Black Mountains and to the east of the Cambrian Mountains. Hergest Ridge is immediately to the south-east of the area (just across the English border into Herefordshire), near the small town of Kington. The highest point in the area is Rhos Fawr a broad plateau which reaches 660 metres (2,165 ft), and is equipped with a trig point to mark the summit. A similar plateau adjoining to the east, Black Mixen is the only Nuttall to have a communications mast (a radio transmitter) on its summit.

Radnor Valley Football Club is a Welsh football team based in New Radnor, Presteigne. The team currently play in the Ardal NE, which is at the third tier of the Welsh football league system.

Bache Hill (Welsh: Bryn Bach) is a subsidiary summit of Rhos Fawr or Great Rhos, in the Radnor Forest in Wales. It is located to the east of Black Mixen. The summit is marked by a trig point built on an ancient burial mound, probably of Bronze Age date, like most of the summit cairns and round barrows in Wales. Some controversy arises from the burial mound; in that 610 metres might be the top of the man-made mound. Some walkers therefore doubt Bache Hill's 2,000-foot status. However, the latest OS Explorer Maps shows a large 610-metre contour round the summit.

Gladestry (Welsh: Llanfair Llythynwg) is a small village and community in Radnorshire, Powys, mid-Wales, close to the border with England at the end of the Hergest Ridge and south of the large moorland area of Radnor Forest. People living in Gladestry rely on the nearby town of Kington, Herefordshire, for shops, employment, and public services. The village is part of a thriving farming and agricultural community, and a local quarry. The village comprises a parish church, the Royal Oak pub, a primary school which educates around 50–60 children and a village hall. In the 2001 census the population of the community was 419, reducing slightly to 412 at the 2011 Census. The community includes Newchurch and Michaelchurch-on-Arrow.

Newchurch is a small rural village in Powys, Wales, centred around St Mary's Church. The village is within the community of Gladestry, about 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Hay-on-Wye, and is on the Offa's Dyke Path, one of the UK's National Trails.The church of St Mary is Grade II listed, and was rebuilt in 1856–57. Francis Kilvert, the Welsh clergyman and diarist, was a frequent visitor. The adjoining Great House and its barn are also Grade II listed. Great House is described by Cadw as a "late C15 cruck-framed hall house, notable for the great span of its trusses, at 28ft the widest yet recorded in Wales."
