Nordstrandischmoor

The Lüttmoorsiel-Nordstrandischmoor island railway (German: Halligbahn Lüttmoorsiel–Nordstrandischmoor), also called the Loren Railway (Lorenbahn even though Lorenbahn is a general term for this type of railroad), is a German, 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) narrow gauge island railway through the North Frisian Wadden Sea from Beltringharder Koog on the mainland to the Hallig of Nordstrandischmoor.

Beltring Hundred (German: Beltringharde; Danish: Beltring Herred, older: Byltryng Herred) was a mediaeval hundred located in the southern part of North Frisia in the Danish region of Southern Schleswig, part of the Frisian Uthlande. It encompassed the northern part of the island of Strand, which sank in 1634 during the Burchardi flood. Some of the land of Beltring Hundred survived the flood, however, and became the Hallig of Nordstrandischmoor as well as the site of the modern municipality of Ockholm. Beltring Hundred was one of the so-called Five Hundreds or Strand Hundreds on the island, the others being Edoms Hundred, Pellworm Hundred, Southern Goes Hundred, and Lundenberg Hundred. The hundred gave its name to Beltringharder Koog, a polder (German: Koog) that was constructed in 1987 between the island of Nordstrand and the North Frisian mainland, even though the area of the old district and the area of the polder are not the same.

Strand was an island on the west coast of Nordfriesland in Schleswig, which was a fiefdom of the Danish crown. The area now belongs to Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. Coastlines along the Dutch-German-Danish coasts were significantly changed during and by a huge storm tide, the Saint Marcellus' flood – also referred to as the Grote Mandrenke – that occurred on 16 January 1362. Many villages and towns were lost. The outlines of Strand changed significantly, nowadays legendary Rungholt reportedly being amongst the now sunken places. The Hallig island of Südfall was then separated from the mainland. In 1634 the Burchardi flood finally split Strand island into Nordstrand, Pellworm and Nordstrandischmoor.

Elisabeth-Sophien-Koog is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It occupies a small part in the northwest of Nordstrand peninsula. The municipality is located in and named after the polder (German: Koog), financed by the banker Jean Henri Desmercières and named in honour of his wife Elisabeth Sophie Desmercières.

Nordstrand was an Amt ("collective municipality") in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Its seat was in Nordstrand. In January 2008, it was merged with the Ämter Friedrichstadt, Hattstedt and Treene to form the Amt Nordsee-Treene. (North Frisian: di Ströön) is a peninsula and former island in North Frisia on the North Sea coast of Germany. It is part of the Nordfriesland district in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. Its area is 50 km² and its population is 2,300. Nordstrand has two municipalities, Nordstrand and smaller Elisabeth-Sophien-Koog, which are part of the Amt Nordsee-Treene. In medieval times Nordstrand was a part of the larger island of Strand, which was torn into pieces in a disastrous storm tide in 1634. More than 6,000 people drowned. Before 1634 the area of the island was about 210 square miles (540 km2). Other remnants of Strand are Pellworm and some Halligen islets. Similar storm surge destruction occurred in 1362 when the town of Rungholt and 28 churches (out of 59 at that time) with the associated villages perished Nordstrand is accessible by road over a causeway, which connects to the mainland and was built in 1936. In 1987 the polder Beltringharder Koog was completed, turning the former island into a peninsula.

Südfall (Danish: Sydfald) is a small island in the Wadden Sea off the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, one of the ten German Hallig islands. It has a permanent population of two people. It covers an area of 0.56 square kilometres (0.22 sq mi) and is administratively part of Pellworm Municipality.

Gröde (German pronunciation: [ˈɡʁøːdə] ; Danish: Grøde, North Frisian: Groue) is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. With only 12 inhabitants, the municipality, which is coterminous with the hallig it is situated on (Hallig Gröde), has the smallest population of any municipality in Germany. The inhabitants of the island make a living from tourism and limited agriculture. Gröde forms the smallest electoral district in the country, with the tally reported practically immediately after polls close. Gröde belongs to the Amt of Pellworm with its seat on the larger island of Pellworm, from where a number of municipal duties are carried out.

Rungholt was a low-lying settlement in North Frisia, in what was then the Danish Duchy of Schleswig. The area today lies in Germany. Rungholt was flooded, with massive erosion, when a storm tide (known as Grote Mandrenke or Den Store Manddrukning) hit the coast on 15 or 16 January 1362.

Oland (Danish: Øland, North Frisian: Ualöönist) is a small hallig of the North Frisian Islands which is connected by a narrow-gauge railway to the mainland and to hallig Langeneß. In 2019, the population was estimated, unofficially, to be 16 people.Germany's smallest lighthouse is located here, being also the only one with a thatched roof.
