Barakaldo (Bilbao metro)

Barakaldo (Spanish: Baracaldo; Basque: Barakaldo [baɾakalðo]) is a municipality located in the Biscay province in the Basque Country. Located on the Left Bank of the Estuary of Bilbao, the city is part of Greater Bilbao with a population as of the 2019 census at 100,881;. Barakaldo has an industrial river-port heritage and has undergone significant redevelopment with new commercial and residential areas replacing the once active industrial zones.

The Barakaldo Theatre (Spanish: Teatro Barakaldo, Basque: Barakaldo Antzokia) in Basque is a theater in Barakaldo, Spain. It was inaugurated in 1990. The project, presented in 1987, is the work of architect Augusto Terrero. During the decades of the 60s and 70s of the 20th century, the theater was a platform for the exhibition of the so-called independent theater.

Bagatza is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, in the municipality of Barakaldo, in close proximity to San Eloy Hospital and the music conservatory. It opened on 13 April 2002.

The Bilbao Exhibition Centre (commonly abbreviated as BEC) is an exhibition centre in Barakaldo, Basque Country, Spain. The current headquarters of the Feria de Muestras de Bilbao, its facilities are located on land formerly occupied by the Basque iron company Altos Hornos de Vizcaya in the neighbourhood of Ansio in Barakaldo, in the Greater Bilbao area. These facilities, opened in April 2004, allow for high capacity international fairs with better services, infrastructure, and connections than the previous facilities in central Bilbao.The Bilbao Exhibition Centre is jointly owned by the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Biscay, Bilbao Municipal Council, Barakaldo Municipal Council and the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce.

Ansio is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Arteagabeitia-Zuazu, in the municipality of Barakaldo. The station is located next to the main entrance to the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC). The main Customer Attention Offices for line 2 are also located in this station. It opened on 13 April 2002.

Lasesarre is a stadium in Barakaldo, Spain. It is currently used for football matches and is the home stadium of Barakaldo CF. The stadium holds 7,960 spectators.

Bizkaia Arena is an indoor arena in Barakaldo, Greater Bilbao. It is the biggest multipurpose hall in Spain, as it can hold up to 26,000 people, and 15,414 for indoor sports. The arena is part of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) complex, the Exhibition and Congress Centre of Bilbao and Biscay, inaugurated in April 2004. The venue regularly hosts basketball games, for which it has a capacity of 15,414. It was one of the six venues used for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, hosted by Spain. The arena hosted the annual MTV Europe Music Awards in 2018 as the awards show was held in Spain for the third time and the first time in Bilbao.

Urbinaga is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Simondrogas, in the municipality of Sestao, next to the Sestao water treatment plant and in proximity to the Lasesarre football stadium. It was opened on 13 April 2002.

Gurutzeta/Cruces is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Gurutzeta, in the municipality of Barakaldo. The station is located in near proximity to the University Hospital of Gurutzeta (also known as Hospital de Cruces in Spanish), the largest public healthcare facility in the Basque Country. The station was opened on 13 April, 2002, as part of the opening of line 2.The trip from San Ignazio to Gurutzeta/Cruces takes four minutes, making it the longest interval between underground stations throughout the entire Bilbao metro network. It is one of four stations located in Barakaldo, the other being Ansio, Bagatza and Barakaldo.

Erandio is a station on line 1 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Altzaga, in the municipality of Erandio. The station opened as part of the metro on 11 November 1995.

The Battle of Luchana (Lutxana in Basque) occurred at Bilbao and its vicinities during the night of December 23, 1836 and went on until December 24, 1836. The Carlists were besieging Bilbao and controlled the water and land routes towards the city. The battle of Luchana took place in the district belonging to the parish of Deusto and the municipality of Erandio, on the banks of the Asúa River, which empties into the Nervión at the spot known as Luchana. The Carlists were defeated and the siege of Bilbao was lifted.

Sociedad Deportiva Erandio Club is a football club from the Basque Country, from the city of Erandio in Biscay (Spain). The club was officially founded in 1915 and they currently play in the Honor Division, though have played twice in the Spanish second division. Erandio Club are well known as a traditional club, both within and outside of Biscay. The white and blue club is one of the few in the province whose name has appeared in the select list of champions in the Spanish state, despite their best times being back in the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s. However, they have always been within the parameters of a very modest club. One of the key characteristics of Erandio is that all of their teams have been formed by amateur players. The club's record is excellent, and the list of players who went on to play in the First Division reinforce this. Juanín, Ipiña, Pitxi Garizurieta, Arqueta, Zarra, Venancio, José Luis Garay, José Luis Bilbao Bala Negra (Black Bullet), Higinio Ortúzar, Alejandro Bilbao and Sertutxa played for the team at various times. Other players such as Juan Ramón and Basauri (Valencia), Terín Álvarez (Racing de Santander), Lorenzo Fernández Learra Lorín (Racing, Zaragoza, Montpellier and Nîmes from the 1st French division, then trained and played in the Bañols of the 3rd division), J.L. Perez Tokilla (Oviedo and Deportivo), Pedro María Herrera (Salamanca, Celta and Zaragoza), Toni Gorriaran (Oviedo and Alavés) and Savin Bilbao (Deportivo de la Coruña) were also invaluable to Erandio's contribution to the football elite
