Alverton

Kilvington is a hamlet and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England, part of the Newark and Sherwood district. Dr Robert Thoroton in Antiquities of Nottinghamshire mentions enclosure 'about the Year 1750', but an Act of Parliament to enclose about 400 acres was passed in 1804 and the Award, mentioning 410 acres of the township of Alverton in Staunton, together with Kilvington, is dated 1810.It is combined with its neighbouring parish of Alverton to form an area for a parish meeting. Staunton (also known as Staunton-in-the-Vale) is a small village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. It takes its name from the Vale of Belvoir and shares it with the local Staunton family, which has resided in the area since the Norman Conquest and possibly before, making them one of the English families living longest on its own estate.

The source is near the hamlet of Holwell, Leicestershire and it joins the Devon near Shelton, Nottinghamshire. Bottesford South railway station was a railway station serving the village of Bottesford, Leicestershire, on the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway. It opened in 1879 and was served by LNWR trains running between Northampton and Newark and Great Northern Railway trains running between Melton Mowbray and Grantham. The station closed when the Northampton to Newark through service was withdrawn and replaced by an infrequent connecting service in 1882.

At the 2011 census, the statistics for Shelton included Sibthorpe, and the population was 307. The village lies 8 miles (13 km) south of Newark-on-Trent, on the north side of the River Smite, near where it joins the River Devon. It has no parish council, only a parish meeting.

Bottesford is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Melton in the ceremonial county of Leicestershire, England. It lies close to the borders of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Cotham railway station was a railway station serving the village of Cotham, Nottinghamshire. It was the only intermediate station on the Great Northern Railway Newark to Bottesford line, which was effectively a northern continuation of the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway. It opened in 1879. It was served by through services to the joint line, but only one of these remained in 1910 and this had been withdrawn by 1922. Although Cotham station itself closed in 1939 occasional passenger services between Nottingham to Newark continued to use the line until 1955. The singled branch line was then freight only until it closed on 16 April 1987. The track was lifted in 1988. The line from Bottesford West Junction to Newark had remained in use until 1987 mainly for oil trains from Immingham on the River Humber to an oil refinery at Rectory Junction, Colwick. After closure of the line these trains ran via Nottingham or Grantham.

Royal Air Force Bottesford or more simply RAF Bottesford is a former Royal Air Force station located on the Leicestershire-Lincolnshire county border, 6.8 miles (10.9 km) north west of Grantham, Lincolnshire and 7.6 miles (12.2 km) south of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire and about 107 miles (172 km) north-northwest of London, England. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). During World War II it was used primarily as a troop carrier airfield for paratroopers and as a bomber airfield before closing in 1948. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property with the technical site being used as an industrial estate.One of the runways is currently used by Cazoo for storing cars and the control tower used as an office.
