Slotervaart (neighbourhood)

Slotervaart is a former district of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It had a population of 48,540 inhabitants in 2008 and an area of 11.14 km². As of 2010, Slotervaart is part of the newly formed stadsdeel Nieuw-West. Slotervaart has a significant immigrant population; 33% of the inhabitants are from Morocco, 21% are from Turkey, and 5% are from Suriname. In 2007, Slotervaart youngsters burned cars and threw stones at the police after a stabbing accident at the Allebeplein, where the police killed a Moroccan boy. At the edge of Slotervaart is the Sloterpark, a recreational location popular among young families with children, and also among men who have sex with men for whom the park is a famous cruising spot. The different clienteles traditionally frequent separate areas of the large park. Sometimes, homosexual tourists (who visit Slotervaart for its famous park) have not been aware of this distinction, and this has led to incidents of gay bashing. In early 2009 signs were erected pointing out the "family" and "cruising" areas. Areas that were part of the borough included the smaller neighborhood of Slotervaart, Overtoomse Veld, and Nieuw Sloten.

The Blue Mosque (Dutch: Blauwe Moskee) is a mosque and cultural center in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, the Netherlands. Construction of the mosque was financed by the government of Kuwait through the offices of Europe Trust Netherlands and began in 2008. The mosque is architecturally significant for both its blue color and the fact that the structure lacks traditional minarets and other symbols associated with Muslim places of worship.

Heemstedestraat is an Amsterdam Metro station in the west of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The station opened in 1997 and is served by line 50 (Isolatorweg - Gein) and line 51 (Isolatorweg - Central Station). The station lies in the south of the city and serves as the metro station for many offices, including the World Fashion Centre.

Amsterdam Aletta Jacobslaan was a planned railway station in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The station was to be built on the Amsterdam–Schiphol railway on the site of the current Henk Sneevlietweg—a station on the Amsterdam Metro.

Henk Sneevlietweg is an Amsterdam Metro station in the south-west Amsterdam, Netherlands. The station opened in 1997 and is located in the suburb of Nieuw-West is served by line 50 and line 51. Henk Sneevlietweg opened on 28 May 1997.The station is elevated above street level on a railway embankment. The station is named after the street on which its main entrance is located which, in turn, is named after Dutch politician Henk Sneevliet.

Amsterdam Lelylaan is a railway, metro, tram and bus station in west Amsterdam. It is served by trains of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen and metros of the GVB. The station opened on 1 June 1986. It is located on the Amsterdam-Schiphol railway, a few km south of Amsterdam Sloterdijk railway station. South of this station, trains turn west towards Schiphol railway station, while metros turn east towards Amsterdam Zuid railway station. The station is located in the Amsterdam borough of Slotervaart, on a long viaduct spanning three roads.

Slotervaartziekenhuis was a hospital in the Slotervaart neighbourhood of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It went into administration in October 2018, and was closed within days.

Overtoomse Veld is a neighborhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is named for the Overtoomse Sluis, which was an old portage point dating from the 14th century on a major cargo route to and from Amsterdam at the junction of two waterschap areas, Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland and Hoogheemraadschap van Amstelland. Postjesweg is a metro station in Amsterdam Nieuw-West and is served by GVB metro line 50 and 51. There is also a bus stop of line 18 at the north side of the main entrance.

Amsterdam Nieuw-West is a borough (Dutch: stadsdeel) comprising the westernmost neighbourhoods of the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was created in 2010 after a merger of the former boroughs Osdorp, Geuzenveld-Slotermeer and Slotervaart. In 2017, the borough had almost 150,000 inhabitants.Most of the residential neighborhoods of Amsterdam Nieuw-West were built after 1950 under an urban expansion plan, based on the garden city concept. Centrally located within the borough are the Sloterplas (literal translation: Lake Sloter) and Sloterpark (around the lake).
