Gold Hill (formerly, Orr City) is an unincorporated community in Placer County, California. Gold Hill is located 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Auburn. It lies at an elevation of 354 feet (108 m).Gold Hill is located within the Sierra Nevada foothills, in a geologic region known as the West Belt, so named because it is west of the Mother Lode Belt. This West Belt contained scattered deposits of gold in quartz veins within the granitic bedrock. In 1851, after gold was discovered in Ophir and Auburn, Georgian prospectors followed the Auburn Ravine, looking for similar placer gold. They found gold in the ravine near an elevated area they named Gold Hill. In addition to the gravel deposits, the hill itself was developed by two companies, known as the Georgia and the Ohio, using ground sluicing from water in the ravine. The town's civil government was organized in the spring of 1852, with the election of a Justice of the Peace, and a Constable. The population of the mining community peaked in 1856.

Secret Ravine (also Auburn Station) is a former settlement in Placer County, California. Secret Ravine is located 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Newcastle. Correction: Gardiner writes in 1854 that the Secret Ravine Post Office is "near the Hawes Ranch." Elisha Hawes lived in Township 9, the 1860 census shows him continuing to receive mail at the Secret Ravine Post Office. Placer County records show that Elisha Hawes and his family sold the ranch in 1867, and that it was located on Secret Ravine near the intersection of what is now I-80 and Rocklin Road, in the area commonly called China Gardens. The Secret Ravine post office opened in 1854, changed its name to Auburn Station for a period in 1863 before changing back, and closed finally in 1868. Auburn Station was the Eastern Terminus of the Sacramento, Placer and Nevada Railroad, that town was active 1861 through 1863, at which time the railroad ceased to exist, the result being the Placer County Railroad War.

Auburn station is an Amtrak station in Auburn, California. Located at the corner of Nevada Street and Fulweiler Street, it serves as the northern terminus of the Capitol Corridor line. The station is not staffed. The platform is next to a short spur track off Track 2 of Union Pacific Railroad's route over Donner Pass. Because of the geography of the city, the Union Pacific's mainline tracks are split, with Track 1 running through the eastern side of the city and Track 2 crossing the western side of the city. The California Zephyr bypasses the city on its route between Roseville and Colfax primarily via Track 1. Auburn became a stop on Amtrak's Capitol Corridor in January 1998.It is served by one round trip per day from Oakland, and one weekend round trip per day from San Jose. The latter is the only round trip running along the entire 168 mi (270 km) length of the corridor. The station is also served by two Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach routes – one between the station and Sacramento and one between Sacramento and Sparks, Nevada. The latter route stops only to discharge passengers towards Sparks and only to receive passengers towards Sacramento.Auburn served 13,352 passengers boarding or detraining in fiscal year 2017.In March 2008, the station (formerly Auburn Multimodal Station) was renamed Robert F. Conheim Auburn Train Station after a long-time Auburn rail rider, who died the previous year.
