Oeiras International School

The Castro de Leceia or Leceia Eneolithic Station (Estação eneolítica de Leceia) is an archeological site of the Castro culture located in the Portuguese civil parish of Barcarena in the municipality of Oeiras. The area was first occupied during the end of the Neolithic (4th millennium BCE) and throughout the Chalcolithic, being abandoned somewhere between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 3rd millennium BCE. The Castro was first dug and reported in 1878 by Carlos Ribeiro, who presented his results to the Lisbon Academy of Sciences in what may be considered the first monograph dedicated to a pre-historical Portuguese settlement. The last interventions date to 2003. The site is classified as a public interest monument (Imóvel de Interesse Público) since 1963.

The Estádio Nacional (English: National Stadium), also known as National Stadium Sports Complex (Portuguese: Complexo Desportivo do Estádio Nacional) and as Jamor Sports Complex (Portuguese: Complexo Desportivo do Jamor), is a national football stadium used by the Portugal national team and by Belenenses SAD since 2018. It is located in the civil parish of Algés, Linda-a-Velha e Cruz Quebrada-Dafundo, in the municipality of Oeiras, in the southwestern part of Lisbon District. The stadium entered UEFA history as host of the first ever game played in UEFA club competitions. The game was played on 4 September 1955 between Primeira Divisão's third-placed team, Sporting CP, and the Yugoslav champions, Serbian side Partizan Belgrade. It ended as a 3–3 draw and was the first game to be played of the first edition of the European Cup.

Caxias is a former civil parish in the municipality of Oeiras, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Oeiras e São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos e Caxias. The population in 2011 was 9,007, in an area of 3.41 km².

The Fort of King Luís I (Forte D. Luís I), also referred to as the Fort of Caxias (Forte de Caxias) and the Fort-prison of Caxias (Forte-prisão de Caxias), is located in the parish of Caxias, in the municipality of Oeiras in the Lisbon district of Portugal. It presently functions as a prison. Built between 1879 and 1886 it was intended as one of a number of forts, known as the Campo Entrincheirado of Lisbon, that formed a defensive perimeter that followed the boundaries of Lisbon at the time. It consisted of two separate strongholds, the north and the south. Originally called the Fort of Caxias, it was renamed as the Fort of King Luís I in 1901 in honour of the king who died in 1889.The fort was first used as a prison in 1916 when a group of soldiers who mutinied were arrested. In 1917 it was used to house construction workers who had gone on strike and in the same year telegraph workers on strike were also held there. From 1935 the southern part of the fort was used by the Estado Novo dictatorship as a political prison, which included torture chambers, and this continued until Portugal’s Carnation Revolution, when its doors were opened on April 25, 1974. It was subsequently used briefly to detain right-wing politicians. The fort was transferred to Portugal’s Prison Service in December 1988.Although the fort was not generally used by the Estado Novo to accommodate the communist party’s top leaders, who were mainly held in the Peniche Fortress, it did witness a mass escape on 4 December 1961 when eight communist party members were able to escape in an armoured car, which they succeeded in smashing through the main gate. The driver had taken a long time gaining the confidence of the guards by convincing them that he had rejected communism and was now on their side. In this way he was able to gain access to the vehicle, which was normally used for President Salazar.

Queluz (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɛˈluʃ]) is a city within the Sintra Municipality, on the Portuguese Riviera, in the Lisbon metropolitan area of Portugal. It is famed as the home of Queluz National Palace, the 18th century pleasure palace of the Portuguese Royal Family, as well as notable institutions like the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. Queluz had a population 78,273 inhabitants in 2001.

Taguspark is a science and technology park located in the municipality of Oeiras, Greater Lisbon subregion, Portugal. The Park covers an area of approximately 150 acres, and accommodates several research and development labs, innovative startups and business incubators in a range of fields such as information technologies (e.g. Portugal Telecom), telecommunications, electronics, materials, metrology, production, energy, environment, technical inspections and consultancy, biotechnologies and fine chemistry. It also has partnerships with leading university institutions like the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (recently merged with the Universidade de Lisboa, keeping the name Universidade de Lisboa) and its engineering faculty - the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) which has facilities in the park. Its current president is Professor Carmona Rodrigues. Furthermore, the park is home to the leading international school: International Sharing School - Taguspark acquired in 2018 by the Sharing Foundation. In the year 2013 the new Main Square was inaugurated, an integrally pedestrian Square with 10.000m2, more or less. Together with this requalification, a new building was created, which is the new headquarters of the Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company Novartis in Portugal. Almost simultaneously, was built the Students Residence, with a capacity of approximately 82 beds, implanted next to the Main Square and the IST facilities, allowing the students and young researchers from other parts of the country and from abroad to be lodged in the Taguspark, contributing with their presence for the vitality of the central area. The concept of the Main Square constitutes the initial stage of requalification and revitalization process of the central zone of the Taguspark. The goal is to create an integrally pedestrian Square, a space for meeting, interaction and accomplishment of urban entertainment events, combining culture, creativity and technological innovation. The space will allow the accomplishment of open-air concerts, street theatre, sculpture expositions, fashion parades, presentation of new products with stimulating thematic for the users of the Taguspark – Future, Knowledge, Innovation, Creativity, Sustainability, bringing life to the center of Taguspark.

Porto Salvo (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu ˈsaɫvu]) is a civil parish in the municipality of Oeiras, Portugal. It is situated to the north of the parish of Oeiras e São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos e Caxias. The population in 2011 was 15,157, in an area of 7.34 km2.

The Fort of São Bruno is situated on the estuary of the River Tagus in Caxias, Oeiras municipality, near Lisbon in Portugal. It was built in 1647 and became operational in 1649 as part of the construction of a line of forts to control access to Lisbon, which stretched from Cabo da Roca on the Atlantic coast to the Belém Tower near Lisbon. The fort is well preserved, following its original design, and is considered one of the most attractive examples of maritime military architecture on the Portuguese coast. It presently serves as the headquarters of the Associação Portuguesa dos Amigos dos Castelos (Portuguese association of friends of castles).

The Esteiro Lighthouse (Portuguese: Farol do Esteiro) is an active Portuguese lighthouse located at Oeiras, about 10 km west of the centre of Lisbon, in parkland that also contains the National Stadium of Portugal. It is a rectangular masonry tower covered with white tiles. The south side has two red horizontal bands that serve as identification during daylight.

The Gibalta rail accident occurred on 31 March 1952, on the Linha de Cascais (Cascais line) in Portugal. It was a derailment due to landslides caused by adverse weather conditions and the bad conservation status of the surrounding land. The accident resulted in 10 dead and 38 injured.

Estoril Court Central is the main tennis court in Oeiras, Portugal. Built in 2005, it currently holds 10,000 spectators. It used to host the Portugal Open in May.

The Fort of Giribita, also referred to as the Fort of Our Lady of Porto Salvo and the Fort of Ponta do Guincho, is located on the right bank of the Tagus estuary, in the municipality of Oeiras, District of Lisbon, in Portugal. It was completed in 1649 during the Portuguese Restoration War (1640-1668), as part of the fortifications of Lisbon that stretched from Cabo da Roca on the Atlantic coast to Belém Tower close to Lisbon. It could exchange crossfire with the Fort of São Bruno to its east.
