Beachley Barracks

Beachley is a village in Gloucestershire, England, near the border with Monmouthshire, Wales. It is located on a peninsula at the confluence of the rivers Wye and Severn, where the Severn Bridge ends and the smaller secondary bridge over the River Wye begins, both bridges carrying the M48 motorway between England and Wales though the motorway is not directly accessible from the village. The tidal range on this stretch of water is the highest in the UK. Before the construction of the bridge it was a ferry port from where the Aust Ferry operated until 1966.The population in 2011 was 764.

Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) or Severn Rescue is an independent, marine and land based, search and rescue organisation covering the Severn Estuary and upper reaches of the River Severn. SARA is the largest independent lifeboat service in the UK, second only to the RNLI, with 22 operational inshore lifeboats, 20 vehicles and approximately 200 personnel. They receive no funding from the RNLI. SARA currently operates from six stations. Four are operated by the charity at Beachley, near the Welsh border at Chepstow, Newport, Sharpness and Upton upon Severn. Two stations are based at a local fire station, one at Tewkesbury and the other Wyre Forest fire station near Kidderminster.

The River Wye (; Welsh: Afon Gwy [ɡʊɨ̯]) is the fourth-longest river in the UK, stretching some 250 kilometres (155 miles) from its source on Plynlimon in mid Wales to the Severn estuary. For much of its length the river forms part of the border between England and Wales. The Wye Valley (lower part) is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Wye is important for nature conservation and recreation, but is affected by pollution.

Sedbury is a village in the Forest of Dean district of west Gloucestershire, England. It is located on the eastern bank of the River Wye, facing the town of Chepstow in Monmouthshire . The village is in the parish of Tidenham. It had a population of 3,535. Nearby are the villages of Tutshill, Woodcroft and Beachley.

Pennsylvania Fields, Sedbury (grid reference ST542929) is a 27.03-hectare (66.8-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1985.The site is listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

The Severn Bridge (Welsh: Pont Hafren) is a motorway suspension bridge that spans the River Severn between South Gloucestershire in England and Monmouthshire in South East Wales. It is the original Severn road crossing between England and Wales, and took three and a half years to build, at a cost of £8 million. It replaced the 137-year-old Aust Ferry. The bridge was opened in 1966 by Queen Elizabeth II. For thirty years, the bridge carried the M4 motorway. It was granted Grade I listed status in 1999.Following the completion of the Prince of Wales Bridge, the section of motorway from Olveston in England to Magor in Wales was designated the M48.

Aust Severn Powerline Crossing is the longest overhead power line span in the United Kingdom with a length of 1,618 m (5,308 ft).

Fossil Beach, at Sedbury, Gloucestershire, England, is beneath the Sedbury Cliffs by the River Severn and is known as a rich source of easily discovered fossils. It is within the Severn Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Bulwark is a predominantly residential area of Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales, largely developed during the twentieth century. The area is so named because of its Iron Age fort, which is now maintained as a public open space. Substantial development in the area began during the First World War, with housing being provided for the military and civilian workforce brought to the area for the National Shipyard no.1 at Chepstow.

Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre is a secondary school with academy status in Sedbury, Gloucestershire, England, just across the border from Chepstow, Wales. Wyedean School was rated 'Good' by OfSTED in Jan 2018. The school is close to the A48 road and less than a mile from the Welsh border and as such, it accepts students from across the border. Wyedean School is a mixed comprehensive school, with 1,100 students, including 300 in the Sixth Form. It was first set up in 1973 and was then moved in 1976 to its present location. The school is located in Gloucestershire, and falls within the English, not Welsh, education system. Although the majority of its students live in the Forest of Dean area of England, a significant number travel from within Wales. It was also the school of J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series.

Chepstow railway station is a part of the British railway system owned by Network Rail and is operated by Transport for Wales. Chepstow station is on the Gloucester to Newport Line, 141 miles 33 chains (227.6 km) from the zero point at Paddington, measured via Stroud. It is 330 yards (300 m) from the town centre, at Station Road. Chepstow is a historic walled border town and ancient port, situated at the southern end of the Wye Valley, two hours from London. The line continues east from the station to Gloucester over the Chepstow railway bridge. It was formerly the junction station for the Wye Valley Railway to Monmouth Troy station until this line closed to passengers in 1959. The railway now consists of a double track line with a trailing crossover to the east of the station, plus some disused track in the former yard.

Chepstow East railway station was a temporary station on the South Wales Railway (now the Gloucester to Newport Line). It was on the opposite bank of the River Wye from Chepstow and was only used for a few months until the river was crossed by a railway bridge. This was about a mile from Chepstow railway station, at the road bridge close to the future junction of the Wye Valley line (which opened in November 1876). It was opened on 19 September 1851 and served as a temporary station while the Chepstow railway bridge was being constructed across the river to link up with the rest of the line. It closed on 19 July 1852, the day that the bridge over the Wye was opened.Another station, Tutshill for Beachley Halt was opened in 1934 at a close location.
