Hengelo (Dutch: [ˈɦɛŋəloː] (listen); Tweants: Hengel) is a city in the eastern part of the Netherlands, in the province of Overijssel. The city lies along the motorways A1/E30 and A35 and it has a station for the international Amsterdam – Hannover – Berlin service.

It is currently used mostly for athletics meets, especially the annual Fanny Blankers-Koen Games. It holds 15,200 people and is named after the Dutch athlete, Fanny Blankers-Koen. The stadium was originally known as Stadion Veldwijk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈstaːdiˌjɔn ˈvɛltʋɛik]), but changed to its current name in 1981.

Twekkelo is a hamlet in Twente, in the province of Overijssel. It is located between Enschede and Hengelo. It had 240 registered inhabitants in 2008. Until 1934 it fell, for administrative purposes, within the ambit of Lonneker, but in that year Lonneker was abolished for administrative purposes, and both are now administered as districts of Enschede.

Deurningen is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Dinkelland, and lies about 5 km northeast of Hengelo.

De Grolsch Veste (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈɣrɔls ˌfɛstə], English: The Grolsch Fortress, previously known as Arke Stadion [ˈɑrkə ˌstaːdijɔn]) is the stadium of football club FC Twente. It is located in Enschede, Netherlands, at the Business & Science Park, near the University of Twente. The stadium has an all-seated capacity of 30,205 with a standard pitch heating system and has a promenade instead of fences around the stands. It hosted the final of the UEFA Women's Euro 2017.

Borne (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɔrnə] (listen); Tweants: Boorn) is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands, in the region of Twente. Its inhabitants also have the nickname Melbuul (flour bag in Twentsch).

Enschede Kennispark is a railway station in Enschede, the Netherlands. The station was opened on 22 November 1996 and is located on the Zutphen–Glanerbeek railway. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The station is directly next to the home stadium of FC Twente, de Grolsch Veste. The station is also used by university students, as it lies close to the campus of University of Twente. The station was originally called Enschede Drienerlo, named after the former Drienerlo estate, until it was renamed Enschede Kennispark on 13 December 2015. This is to reflect the redevelopment of the area around the station into a science park.

Oele (in old Dutch also: Eule, Dutch Low Saxon: Eul) is a village in the municipality Hengelo in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located south-west of Hengelo, south of the Twentekanaal. The highway A35 and the Provincial road 739|N739 (the road from Hengelo to Beckum and Haaksbergen) are close to the population centre. Until the creation of the municipality of Hengelo, Oele was part of the richterambt Delden.

Twente (Dutch: Twente [ˈtʋɛntə], Tweants dialect: Tweante) is a region in the eastern Netherlands. It encompasses the most urbanised and easternmost part of the province of Overijssel. Twente is most likely named after the Tuihanti or Tvihanti, a Germanic tribe that settled in the area and was mentioned by the Roman historian Tacitus. The region's borders are defined by the Overijssel region of Salland in the northwest and west (the river Regge roughly defines the western border), the German County of Bentheim in the northeast and east (the river Dinkel roughly defines the eastern border) and the Gelderland region of the Achterhoek in the south. Twente has approximately 620,000 inhabitants, most of whom live in its three largest cities: Almelo, Hengelo and Enschede, the latter being the main city of the region. It comprises fourteen municipalities: Almelo, Borne, Dinkelland, Enschede, Haaksbergen, Hellendoorn, Hengelo, Hof van Twente, Losser, Oldenzaal, Rijssen-Holten, Tubbergen, Twenterand and Wierden. The whole of Hellendoorn and the western parts of both Rijssen-Holten and Twenterand historically belong to the cultural region of Salland, but to the city region of Twente.
