Somerton is a civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk in eastern England. Somerton is split into two smaller villages: Upper Somerton with a population of approximately 50 and Somerton with a population of about 20. Upper Somerton is at the top of one valley and has St. Margaret's Church, a phone box and post box. Somerton is at the bottom of the same valley and has only a post box. The villages comprise rural houses and farms with some council houses. Its nearest villages are Hartest, Brockley and Hawkedon. There was once quite the rivalry between Hartest and Somerton, and a giant stone found in Somerton was stolen by Hartest and rolled down the valley where it still sits on their village green.The nearest town is Bury St Edmunds or Sudbury.

The village has an Anglican church dedicated to All Saints. In 1870, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Stansfield as "A parish, with S. village and Assington-Green hamlet, in Risbridge district, Suffolk; 5 miles N by E of Clare r. station. It has a post-office under Sudbury. Acres, 1,989. Real property, £2,998. Pop., 549. Houses, 109. The property is divided among a few. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely. Value, £500.* Patron, the Lord Chancellor. There are an Independent chapel, and charities £11".

Rede is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Its location is situated South East of Chedburgh. In 1887 Rede was described as being "7 miles S[outh] W[est] of Bury St Edmonds, 1224 ac[res], pop[ulation] 224".Its population in 2011 was 131 residents according to the Census taken in that year.The institutional history of Rede explains that it has always been a place of housing for agricultural workers, craftsmen and the lower class in general. It is thought that the name "Rede" originates from a mercer from London, William Rede who was granted the manor and advowson of nearby medieval site of Beccles.Great Wood Hill, the highest point in Suffolk, is around 1.7 km (1.1 mi) west of Rede.

The Newmarket Ridge or East Anglian Ridge is a ridge starting north-west of Hertford, Hertfordshire near the Chiltern Hills and ending near Sudbury, Suffolk. It is approximately 40 miles (64 km) long and passes through Essex and south-east Cambridgeshire.

At 128 metres (420 ft), Great Wood Hill, near Chedburgh, is the highest point in the English county of Suffolk. It is the highest part of the Newmarket Ridge. The summit is in the middle of a wood, near the village of Rede. It is the highest point in the wide area east of the River Cam.

Royal Air Force Chedburgh or more simply RAF Chedburgh is a former Royal Air Force satellite station located near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, UK. The Bury Road Business Park is now located on the site, a principal enterprise being Yara UK Limited's liquid fertilizer production plant.

Cavendish Woods is a 53.5-hectare (132-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Glemsford in Suffolk.These ancient woods are managed as coppice with standards. The main standard tree is oak, and the flora is diverse, including the uncommon oxlip. There are many fallow deer, and breeding birds include woodcock, snipe and treecreeper.The woods are in four blocks, Shadowbush Wood adjacent to Long Wood, King's Wood, Northay Wood and Easty Wood. A public footpath goes through Easty Wood.

Depden is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located on the A143 around five miles south-west of Bury St Edmunds, in 2005 its population was 200, reducing to 184 at the 2011 Census.

Gifford's Hall is a manor house in the civil parish of Wickhambrook, in the West Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is Grade I listed Its name derives from the same Gifford family who also owned Giffords Hall, Stoke-by-Nayland.In the reign of Edward I, Peter Giffard held half a fee here and by 1321 William Giffard received the grant of a free warren. The Wickhambrook house passed to the Clopton family in the fourteenth century and subsequently to the Highams in the seventeenth century. After a period as a farm in the Victorian era it was divided into tenements before being bought by Seymour Lucas in 1904 who restored and modernised the building.

Brockley (not to be confused with Brockley Green, 8 miles (13 km) southwest in Hundon parish) is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. Brockley parish includes the hamlets of Pound Green and Gulling Green. According to the 2001 Census parish population was 281, and increased to 312 at the 2011 Census. The village is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) south of Bury St Edmunds and 9 miles (14 km) north of Sudbury on the B1066. Also it is 2 miles (3 km) north of Hartest. A small hamlet is recorded in Domesday as "Brochola" or "Broclega": the name originates from 'woodland clearing by a brook'. Mill Road marks the location of a former post mill which was demolished in 1930. East of B1066 is Willow Tree Farm (now Britton's Farm) (farthest out) with a small chapel (halfway to B1066). West of B1066 is Mile Farm (now Long's Farm) with the Pumping Station farthest west. Brockley Hall and St Andrew's Church are still around 1 km north of the village. St Andrew's dates from medieval times but was renovated in 1866. It is a Grade II* listed building. Brockley Hall is Grade I listed.There have been no public houses in the village since the 1980s, although before then there had been two: the Fox and Hounds and The Six Bells. A blacksmith used to be next door to the pub. A shop, and petrol station closed some years ago.Brockley Cricket Club started over 60 years ago and supports three teams playing in local leagues, a midweek team and a youth programme. The village also supports an indoor bowls club that has enjoyed some success in the past.

Boxted is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England. Located around 8 miles (13 km) north of Sudbury, in 2005 it had a population of 120. From the 2011 Census the population was included in the civil parish of Somerton. According to Eilert Ekwall, the meaning of the village name is place where box grow. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book, at which time it had a population of 25.
