RAF Chedburgh

Chedburgh is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located on the A143 around five miles south-west of Bury St Edmunds, in 2005 its population was 650, reducing to 597 at the 2011 Census. Great Wood Hill, the highest point in Suffolk, is around 1.7 km (1.1 mi) south of Chedburgh.

The Newmarket Ridge or East Anglian Ridge is a ridge starting north-west of Hertford, Hertfordshire near the Chiltern Hills and ending near Sudbury, Suffolk. It is approximately 40 miles (64 km) long and passes through Essex and south-east Cambridgeshire.

At 128 metres (420 ft), Great Wood Hill, near Chedburgh, is the highest point in the English county of Suffolk. It is the highest part of the Newmarket Ridge. The summit is in the middle of a wood, near the village of Rede. It is the highest point in the wide area east of the River Cam.

Rede is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Its location is situated South East of Chedburgh. In 1887 Rede was described as being "7 miles S[outh] W[est] of Bury St Edmonds, 1224 ac[res], pop[ulation] 224".Its population in 2011 was 131 residents according to the Census taken in that year.The institutional history of Rede explains that it has always been a place of housing for agricultural workers, craftsmen and the lower class in general. It is thought that the name "Rede" originates from a mercer from London, William Rede who was granted the manor and advowson of nearby medieval site of Beccles.Great Wood Hill, the highest point in Suffolk, is around 1.7 km (1.1 mi) west of Rede.

Hay Wood, Whepstead is a 10.4-hectare (26-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Whepstead in Suffolk.This ancient wood on poorly drained boulder clay has coppice trees of small-leaved lime and field maple with an understorey of hazel. Flora include wood spurge, herb Paris, ramsons and early purple orchid.The site is private land, with no public access.

Chevington is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in East Anglia, England. Located around 10 km south-west of Bury St Edmunds, in 2005 its population was 630, reducing to 602 at the 2011 Census. The parish also contains the hamlets of Broad Green and Tan Office Green.

Hawkedon is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located around 7 miles (11 km) south-south-west of Bury St Edmunds, the parish also contains the hamlet of Thurston End, and in 2005 had a population of 120. The majority of the village is classed as a conservation area.

Lying at the crossroads from Ousden and Lady's Green (west) and Chevington (east). Barrow, Suffolk (north) and Wickhambrook (in the south). The village has approximately 120 dwellings, two churches and a village hall (built and funded by the village).

Gifford's Hall is a manor house in the civil parish of Wickhambrook, in the West Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is Grade I listed Its name derives from the same Gifford family who also owned Giffords Hall, Stoke-by-Nayland.In the reign of Edward I, Peter Giffard held half a fee here and by 1321 William Giffard received the grant of a free warren. The Wickhambrook house passed to the Clopton family in the fourteenth century and subsequently to the Highams in the seventeenth century. After a period as a farm in the Victorian era it was divided into tenements before being bought by Seymour Lucas in 1904 who restored and modernised the building.
