Congleton railway station

Buglawton is a suburb of Congleton, in the south-east of Cheshire. It was a parish and an urban district (i.e. effectively an independent town) from 1894 until 1936, when it was incorporated in Congleton borough. In 1931 the parish had a population of 1651.The Urban District Council consisted of six elected members and five officers, the latter including a council clerk, a surveyor and a rate and rent collector. The council was responsible for quite a large geographical area, greater in size than the borough of Congleton at that time though smaller in population and in buildings. Most of the 2580 acres which comprised the parish of Buglawton was used for dairy farming and the Council's area was generally more rural than industrial. The bulk of the population, however, lived and worked in a small area adjacent to the River Dane. The parish church of St John was built in 1841. The area of the former parish includes the hamlets of Timbersbrook, Key Green, Crossley and Havannah, Cheshire plus the Cheshire side of the Cloud. Buglawton was formerly a township and chapelry in Astbury parish, from 1866 Buglawton was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1936 and merged with Congleton, Eaton and North Rode.

In Congleton Borough, there were many different provisions for children and young people ranging from pre-schooling to Colleges of Further education. The nearest Area Education Office County Offices were in the neighbouring Borough of Macclesfield. As of 1 April 2009, responsibility for education in the former borough of Congleton passed to the new unitary authority of Cheshire East.

Congleton Park is a public park in Congleton, in Cheshire, England. It is listed Grade II in Historic England's Register of Parks and Gardens, and the park has several times won a Green Flag Award. It is owned by Cheshire East Council and operated by Congleton Town Council.

Astbury was one of the eight ancient parishes of the Macclesfield Hundred of Cheshire, England. It included two chapelries and ten townships. The chapelry of Congleton was an ancient borough and became a municipal borough in 1835. Under the Poor Law Amendment Act 1886 the townships and chapelries became civil parishes in their own right. Nine of the townships became part of Congleton Rural District in 1894. whereas Eaton became part of Macclesfield Rural District. At the same time, the Chapelry of Buglawton was made an Urban Sanitary District before being abolished in 1936. On its abolition 2,865 acres (11.59 km2) were transferred to Congleton, 32 acres (130,000 m2) to Eaton and 14 acres (57,000 m2) to North Rode.St. Mary's at Astbury is a large 12th-century church, rebuilt on a unique trapezoidal plan in the 13th and 14th centuries. There is a 14th-century effigy of a knight in the Lady Chapel, and another, possibly earlier, canopied tomb in the churchyard. A fragment of a Saxon cross is built into the exterior wall. Ada, fourth daughter of David, 9th Earl of Huntingdon (c1144-1219), is buried here. Congleton Museum is a local museum in Congleton, Cheshire, northwest England, covering the history of the town of Congleton, which is situated on the banks of the River Dane. Congleton Museum Trust was established in 1985 by a group of people interested in local history. The museum is located in the Market square of Congleton.

Congleton Town Hall is a municipal building in the High Street, Congleton, Cheshire, England. The town hall, which is the meeting place of Congleton Town Council, is a grade II* listed building.

St Peter's Church is in Chapel Street, Congleton, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the Diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Congleton. Its benefice is combined with those of St Stephen, Congleton, St John the Evangelist, Buglawton, and Holy Trinity, Mossley. Alec Clifton-Taylor includes it in his list of 'best' English parish churches. Daneside Theatre is a theatre in the town of Congleton, Cheshire, England. It opened in 1984 and expanded in 2001. The theatre is used by several local dramatic and musical societies.

Havannah near Congleton in Cheshire, England, is a former industrial and residential area and was at one time known as 'the deserted village'. It was established by local industrialist Charles Roe and named to commemorate the British capture of Havana in Cuba in 1762.The area used water power from the River Dane. There were copper and brass works and a corn mill, and cigars were made there. There were also cottages, and a modern housing development has been built in the area.
