Rawcliffe Bridge

Rawcliffe railway station is a railway station that serves the village of Rawcliffe in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The station is located on the Pontefract Line. The line passing through here was once a busy passenger and freight link to the inland port of Goole (the line and station first being opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1848) but since the mid-1980s much of the traffic that once used this route has disappeared. The route is single track between Hensall and Goole, the level crossing here has been automated and the rail-served freight terminal in Goole docks sees little use. The station has also been downsized and its signal box demolished. The former five trains each way per day service of the late 1980s (see British Rail National Passenger Timetables from May 1988–90) was cut in half in 1991 (due to shortage of rolling stock) and again in 2004, leaving only a residual "Parliamentary" minimum timetable in operation east of Knottingley to avoid the need for statutory closure proceedings – a situation that remains unchanged to this day.

The Humberhead Levels is a national character area covering a large expanse of flat, low-lying land towards the western end of the Humber estuary in northern England. The levels occupy the former Glacial Lake Humber, an area bounded to the east by the Yorkshire Wolds and the northern Lincolnshire Edge, a limestone escarpment, and to the west by the southern part of the Yorkshire magnesian limestone ridge. In the north the levels merge into the slightly more undulating Vale of York close to the Escrick glacial moraine, and to the south merge into the Trent Vale.

Rawcliffe (or Rawcliffe in Snaith) is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England on the border with North Yorkshire. It is situated approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Goole and 17 miles (27 km) south of York. It lies on the banks of the River Aire just north of the M62 and on the A614 road. Rawcliffe, along with nearby Airmyn, was the location of one of the first reliable reports of the practice of warping in agriculture in the 1730s.

Newland is a hamlet and civil parish in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2011 UK census Newland parish had a population of 202, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 198.

Goole was a rural district in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1894 to 1974.It was created under the Local Government Act 1894, based on most of the Goole rural sanitary district (two parishes of which in Lincolnshire became part of the Isle of Axholme Rural District). The town of Goole itself formed a separate urban district. The district contained the following parishes: Adlingfleet Airmyn Eastoft Fockerby Goole Fields Gowdall Haldenby Hook Ousefleet Pollington Rawcliffe Reedness Snaith and Cowick Swinefleet WhitgiftIn 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, the district became part of the Boothferry district of Humberside. Since 1996 it has been divided between the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire unitary authorities.

Thorne Colliery was a large colliery within the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire in the South Yorkshire Coalfield. The colliery was open between 1925 and 1956; but had operational issues including shaft water, war time crises and maintenance trouble, causing the pit to be non-productive for much of its lifespan. Production ended in 1958 due to geological problems. Unsuccessful proposals to restart production were made in the 1980s and 1990s, and in 2004 the pit pumps were turned off and the headgear demolished.

Club Thorne Colliery (formerly Thorne Colliery F.C.) is a football club based in Moorends, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. They are currently members of the Humber Premier League Premier Division and play at the Welfare Ground.

Siemens Goole is a train factory located in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Siemens Mobility assessed several sites in the United Kingdom before settling on Goole with an intent to build the plant if it were successful in gaining orders for new rolling stock. After a June 2018 announcement that Siemens had won the bid to build 94 London Underground New Tube for London trains for the Piccadilly line of the London Underground, Siemens confirmed it would go ahead with building the factory, though this was then subject to further delays as other rolling stock companies objected to Siemens being given the contract. In November 2018, the High Court upheld the decision to award the contract to Siemens, but allowed the other train companies to pursue claims for damages. Groundwork on the site commenced in July 2020.

Moorends is a village in the north-east of the City of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, situated on the border with East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. It was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It is part of the civil parish of Thorne, which lies to the south.Moorends is located on the edge of Thorne Moors, part of the Humberhead Levels, at an elevation of around 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) above sea level. The moors can be accessed via Grange Road. The village grew up with housing being built to house the miners working in Thorne Colliery, which was developed in the village. Before the coal mine was sunk, the area was largely farmland with only a handful of houses. A missionary church was provided by the owners of the coal mine during the colliery's development (c. 1912, however, a permanent church, St Wilfrith's, was built in 1934, and this became its own parish in 1956.The legendary goalkeeper Ted Sagar was born in Moorends in 1910. It is also home to one public house.

Airmyn is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated at the mouth of the River Aire with the River Ouse, approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) north-west of Goole. It lies to the west of the M62 motorway and the A614 road. According to the 2011 UK census, Airmyn parish had a population of 768, a fall from the 2001 UK census figure of 795. The parish covers an area of 1,155.353 hectares (2,854.94 acres). The parish was part of the Goole Rural District in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1974, then in Boothferry district of Humberside until 1996. In the Middle Ages, Airmyn was a small port, and up to the 18th century its dead were taken by boat upstream to be buried at Snaith, as it was quicker to go by river than by horse and cart.

West Park is an urban park in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was opened in 1923 and is the largest park in the town.
