The River Nene ( or ) flows through the counties of Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire in eastern England, into The Wash in the North Sea. It flows largely northeast from its sources in Arbury Hill in Northamptonshire to its mouth at Lutton Marsh. The Nene and its tributaries drain an area of about 2,270 square kilometres (880 sq mi), with a population of 750,000. The Nene's main tributaries include the River Ise, Wootton Brook, Willow Brook, and Harper's Brook. At 105 miles (169 km) long, it is the tenth-longest river in the United Kingdom, and is tidal for 45 kilometres (28 mi) up to Dog-in-a-Doublet sluice, near Peterborough. The river forms the boundary between Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, and is navigable for 88 miles (142 km), from Northampton to The Wash.

Gedney Drove End () is a village in the civil parish of Gedney and the South Holland district of Lincolnshire, England. It is 40 miles (64 km) south-east from the city and county town of Lincoln, and 12 miles (20 km) from both Boston at the north-west and King's Lynn at the south-east. Gedney Drove End is within Gedney Marsh, 5 miles (8 km) north-east from the parish village of Gedney, and 1 mile (1.6 km) from the south-west shore of The Wash estuary. The village is centred where Marsh Road runs into Dawsmere Road at the junction with Main Road, the B1359 road which runs from the village to Long Sutton. There is one public house, 'The Rising Sun' on Marsh Road; On Main Road is Gedney Drove Primary School. The village hall, which is shared with the neighbouring hamlet of Dawsmere, is on Dawsmere Road. At the west of Gedney Drove End, separated by fields and at the centre of a farm, is Norfolk House, a Grade II listed red brick house dating to the early 19th century. At the north of the village, on the bank of The Wash is an infantry blockhouse from the Second World War. Further south-east off Marsh Road is a "Type 23 three-bay concrete anti-aircraft pillbox". At the centre of the village is evidence of Gedney Drove End post-medieval settlement, and the extant Methodist chapel dating to 1885. To the north of the village centre is the site of a former corn tower mill, non-existent by 1953.

Holbeach Air Weapons Range is a United Kingdom Ministry of Defence academic air weapons range (AWR) situated between Boston and King's Lynn in the civil parish of Gedney on The Wash, in Lincolnshire, eastern England. It was originally associated with RAF Sutton Bridge, but in the 1950s was named Royal Air Force Holbeach before adopting its current name in the mid 2000s when control was passed to the Defence Training Estate.

Walpole Cross Keys is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 4.03 km2 (1.56 sq mi) and had a population of 469 in 182 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 518 at the 2011 census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. Walpole Cross Keys' Primary School received a 'good' rating from Ofsted following a short inspection in 2019. Walpole railway station, closed in 1959, was within the parish.

Cross Keys Bridge is a swing bridge that carries the busy single carriageway A17 road which runs from Newark in Nottinghamshire to King's Lynn in Norfolk over the tidal River Nene in Sutton Bridge in the extreme south east of Lincolnshire close to the borders of both Norfolk and Cambridgeshire and is a major landmark on the route particularly for holiday traffic heading into and out of Norfolk during the summer months. It is the only crossing point for both traffic and pedestrians over the river north of the Cambridgeshire town of Wisbech some nine miles to the south of the bridge and provides the only direct link between Lincolnshire and Norfolk. When it was built in 1897, it was the third bridge to cross the Nene in Sutton Bridge. It was originally a dual-purpose bridge serving the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway on what is now the westbound carriageway and the road was on the eastbound side. The railway line was closed in 1965 and the bridge took on its present-day use as a road bridge with one single lane for eastbound traffic and a single lane for westbound traffic. It is a Grade II* listed structure.

Sutton Bridge is a village and civil parish in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated on the A17 road, 7 miles (11 km) north from Wisbech and 9 miles (14 km) west from King's Lynn. The village includes a commercial dock on the west bank of the River Nene over which spans a swing bridge, and the parish, two 19th-century lighthouses 3 miles (5 km) to the north from the village on the Nene.

Sutton Bridge railway station was a station in Sutton Bridge, south Lincolnshire, England, which opened in the 19th century. It became part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway network, and served as a junction where the line from Great Yarmouth split into two sections one heading for Wisbech and Peterborough and the other for Spalding. The station closed with the line in 1959.

Walpole railway station was a station in Norfolk. It is now disused. First opened in 1866, it was part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line between the Midlands and the Norfolk coast. It took its name from the cluster of villages surrounding Walpole Hall, being nearest to Walpole Cross Keys. It was located very close to the Lincolnshire border. It closed along with the rest of the line in 1959.

Royal Air Force Sutton Bridge or more simply RAF Sutton Bridge is a former Royal Air Force station found next to the village of Sutton Bridge in the south-east of Lincolnshire. The airfield was to the south of the current A17, and east of the River Nene, next to Walpole in Norfolk.

Sutton Bridge Power Station is an 819 MW gas-fired power station in Sutton Bridge in the south-east of Lincolnshire in South Holland, England. It is situated on Centenary Way close to the River Nene. It is a major landmark on the Lincolnshire and Norfolk border and on clear days with its bright red lights it can be easily seen as far away as Hunstanton.
