Hana-Koganei Station

Kaetsu University (嘉悦大学, Kaetsu daigaku) is a private university in Kodaira, Tokyo, Japan, established in 2001. The predecessor of the school was founded in 1903. The school was founded by Taka Kaetsu in 1903 as a women's commercial school. It was renamed Japan Commercial Girls’ School in 1919 and the Japan Commercial Girls’ High School in 1929. In 1944 it became the Japan Women's College of Economics and the Japan Women's College of Economics in 1950, awarding certified public accountant degrees. The school was renamed Kaetsu Women's College and relocated to its present location in 1982. A four-year Department of Management and Economics for men and women was established in 2001, with the two-year program continuing to be offered only to women. A graduate program was created in 2010.

The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (江戸東京たてもの園, Edo Tōkyō Tatemono En, lit. "Edo Tokyo Buildings Garden") in Koganei Park, Tokyo, Japan, is a museum of historic Japanese buildings. The park includes many buildings from the ordinary middle class Japanese experience to the homes of wealthy and powerful individuals such as former Prime Minister Takahashi Korekiyo, out in the open in a park. The museum enables visitors to enter and explore a wide variety of buildings of different styles, periods, and purposes, from upper-class homes to pre-war shops, public baths (sentō), and Western-style buildings of the Meiji period, which would normally be inaccessible to tourists or other casual visitors, or which cannot be found in Tokyo. Acclaimed animator Hayao Miyazaki often visited here during the creation of his film, Spirited Away, for inspiration.

Koganei (小金井市, Koganei-shi) is a city located in the western portion of Tokyo Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 March 2021, the city had an estimated population of 123,698 in 61,832 households. The total area of the city is 11.30 square kilometres (4.36 sq mi) so the population density is about 11,000 persons per km².

The Asia University of Japan (亜細亜大学, Ajia Daigaku) is a private university located in Musashino, Tokyo, Japan that offers courses in Business Administration, Economics, Law, International Relations and Urban Innovation. The university was founded in 1941 by Kozo Ota as Koa Senmon Gakko (Koa Professional School) on the site of the present Asia University campus. Ota believed that education should be based on a spiritual closeness between teachers and students. It was a unique school at the time, as it accommodated all students in dormitories divided by course of study; Continental Asia, Southern Pacific Islands and Japan ("Homeland"). It shares its name with another university located in Taiwan. The University produced an animated short, in 2015, to promote its Department of Urban Innovation.

Tokyo Gakugei University (東京学芸大学, Tōkyō gakugei daigaku) is a national university in Koganei, Tokyo. Founded in 1873, it was chartered as a university in 1949. It is also known as Gakudai (学大) and TGU, for short. In addition to its Koganei campus, it also maintains a number of attached public schools offering curricula in elementary, secondary, and special education at various locations in the greater Tokyo area. The university has a strong reputation in education-related fields, playing a national role in the development of educational policy and innovations in teacher education.

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (情報通信研究機構, Jōhō Tsūshin Kenkyū Kikō, NICT) is Japan's primary national research institute for information and communications. It is located at 4-2-1 Nukui-Kitamachi, Koganei, Tokyo 184-8795, Japan. NICT was established as an Independent Administrative Institution in 2004 when Japan's Communications Research Laboratory (established 1896) merged with the Telecommunications Advancement Organization. Today NICT's mission is to carry out research and development in the field of information and communications technology. It has a range of responsibilities including generating and disseminating Japan's national frequency and time standards; conducting type approval tests of radio equipment for the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) and marine radar based on Japan's Radio Law; and providing regular observations of the ionosphere and space weather. It also operates the JJY, a low frequency time signal. In late August 2015, it was announced that a terahertz radiation scanner developed by the institute would be one of the instruments carried by the ESA's Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer, currently due for launch in 2022.
