Cotter River

Paddys River, a perennial stream that is part of the Murrumbidgee catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, is located in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia.

The Cotter Dam is a concrete gravity and rockfill embankment dam across the Cotter River, located in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Both the dam and river are named after early settler in the area Garrett Cotter. The impounded Cotter Reservoir is a supply source of potable water for the city of Canberra and its environs.

Pierces Creek is a former rural forestry settlement in the Australian Capital Territory which was managed by Housing ACT since the 1980s. The 13 homes at the settlement were destroyed during the 2003 Canberra bushfires and have never been rebuilt despite a proposal by the ACT Government in the mid-2000s. The Pierces Creek settlement was originally established as a semi-permanent camp in the 1920s to house workers in the surrounding forest plantations with permanent housing being constructed in the 1930s to attract men with their families to work in the industry. In the 1980s, the forestry industry had dramatically changed and workers were no longer required to live in the settlement and the management of the houses along with the existing tenants handed to Housing ACT. Tenants could not purchase their houses due to the settlement being zoned as "plantation forestry" under the National Capital Plan. Following the fire, the ACT government led by then Chief Minister Jon Stanhope proposed the construction of a "world class sustainable village with 50 houses". The proposed development required an amendment to the National Capital Plan. The National Capital Authority (NCA) responsible for the National Capital Plan rejected to amend the plan, stating that the settlement was too large and initially rejected the proposal, but agreed to amend the National Capital Plan to allow the former residents to purchase their houses from the ACT Government. The ACT Government instead proposed a settlement of 25 to 30 houses, however this too was rejected by the NCA. The NCA instead wanted a settlement of the original size of 13 homes to be rebuilt. However the proposal eventually fell through and the project was cancelled. After further clarification, the NCA was informed that the existing National Capital Plan allowed for the purchase of the homes and did not require to be amended, with Draft Amendment 51 – Pierces creek formally withdrawn on 10 December 2009. The settlement to this day has not been rebuilt. In 1991, a bushfire also destroyed $1.5 million worth of pine trees at Pierces Creek.

Yarrolumla Parish is a former parish of Murray County, New South Wales, a cadastral unit for use on land titles. It was formed in the nineteenth century, and existed until 1 January 1911, when the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910 came into force, after the land was transferred to the Commonwealth government in 1909 to be used to form the Australian Capital Territory. It is one of the four former parishes of Murray County which became part of the ACT, along with Canberra, Narrabundah and Gigerline. While other parishes lost land to the ACT, these were the only ones to lose all of the land within the parish. It was bounded to the north by the Molonglo River, and to the west and south by the Murrumbidgee River. It includes the area around Mount Stromlo, and the north-western part of Weston Creek, including Duffy. It does not actually include the present day suburb of Yarralumla, which was in Narrabundah parish, but it was close to it.

Coree is a district in the Australian Capital Territory in Australia.

Uriarra Village is a town in the district of Coree, in the Australian Capital Territory in Australia. It is situated on the western side of the Australian Capital Territory, about 30 minutes from Canberra, established in 1928 at the foothills of the Australian Alps. A nearby area to the north of the border in New South Wales is also called Uriarra. The settlement and surrounding forest were significantly damaged by the 2003 Canberra bushfires with 16 of the original 23 homes being destroyed. In May 2004 the ACT Government considered information on social capital, infrastructure innovation, environmental, planning and financial analysis and found that Uriarra Village should be redeveloped in a sustainable manner. Fifteen of the original families moved away from the settlement with nine choosing to remain.In 2007 the ACT Government commenced rebuilding the settlement as a rural settlement, by funding new roads and infrastructure. In mid-2012 the settlement was officially recognised and named as a village within the ACT.Uriarra Village is the only "community title" village in Australia. The village community independently owns and maintains village services and infrastructure including roads, community lands, the village hall, and stormwater. As such the village receives only minimal services from the ACT Government for the provision of garbage collection. The National Capital Authority advocated a community title for the village after the 2003 bushfire to "promote social interaction and a shared community spirit".

The Murrumbidgee electorate is one of the five electorates for the unicameral 25-member Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. It elected five members at the 2016 ACT election.

The Mount Stromlo Hydro-Power Station is a small hydro-electric power station installed on the Bendora Gravity Main in Canberra, Australia. It produces about 200 megawatt-hours (720 GJ) megawatt hours of electricity per month. Production of energy depends on the water flow into the nearby Mount Stromlo Water Treatment Plant. It was constructed in 2000 and is operated by Icon Water, the water and sewerage utility of the Australian Capital Territory.

Mount Stromlo Observatory located just outside Canberra, Australia, is part of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Australian National University (ANU). Australia's oldest telescope and several others at the observatory were destroyed by bushfire in 2003.

Mount Stromlo (formerly Mount Strom) is a mountain with an elevation of 770 metres (2,530 ft) AHD  that is situated in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. The mountain is most notable as the location of the Mount Stromlo Observatory. The mountain forms part of the catchment area of the Cotter River which in turn is the primary water supply for part of ACT.

Stromlo Forest Park is an Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government-supported outdoor recreation facility. It is located in western area of the ACT, adjacent to the Molonglo Valley, and about 15 minutes' drive from Canberra's Central Business District.

Denman Prospect is a suburb currently under development in the Molonglo Valley district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. It is named in honour of Lady Denman, the wife of the fifth Governor-General of Australia, The Lord Denman. The principal ceremonial occasion during Lady Denman's term as first lady was the inauguration of the Federal capital on 12 March 1913. Lady Denman stood upon the newly laid Foundation Stones and pronounced, "I name the capital of Australia – Canberra". The name Denman Prospect was selected to distinguish the locality from the town of Denman, New South Wales. The use of the suffix 'prospect' meaning view, vision or the outlook for the future, is considered significant in the context of the naming of Canberra by Lady Denman and Lord Denman's ensuing visionary speech for the future of the capital.The streets of Denman Prospect are named after activists and reformers.
