Glasgow Victoria Infirmary

Queen's Park (Scottish Gaelic: Pàirc na Banrìghinn, Scots: Queen's Pairk) is a park situated on the south side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland, between Strathbungo, Shawlands, Battlefield, Mount Florida, and Crosshill The 60-hectare (148-acre) park lies about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) south of the city centre, and gives its name to a nearby railway station and several other local businesses and institutions, including the football team Queen's Park F.C.

The Battle of Langside was fought on 13 May 1568 between forces loyal to Mary, Queen of Scots, and forces acting in the name of her infant son James VI. Mary’s short period of personal rule ended in 1567 in recrimination, intrigue, and disaster when, after her capture at Carberry Hill, she was forced to abdicate in favour of James VI. Mary was imprisoned in Loch Leven Castle, while her Protestant half-brother, James Stewart, Earl of Moray, was appointed Regent on behalf of his nephew. In early May 1568 Mary escaped, heading west to the country of the Hamiltons, high among her remaining supporters, and the safety of Dumbarton Castle with the determination to restore her rights as queen. Mary was defeated and went into exile and captivity in England. The battle is generally considered the start of the Marian civil war.

Battlefield is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated south of the River Clyde. The area takes its name from the Battle of Langside of 1568 in which Mary, Queen of Scots' army was defeated by forces acting in the name of her infant son, James VI. A highly decorative monument, designed by Alexander Skirving in 1887, now stands adjacent to Queen's Park commemorating the 320th anniversary of her defeat. Housing consists mainly of three and four-storey Victorian and Edwardian tenements, although there are also numerous townhouses from the same era, and some modern properties. Battlefield was formerly a centre of Glasgow's Jewish community, although most have now moved further south to Giffnock and Newton Mearns, or further afield to Manchester or Israel. The former synagogue had been converted to flats for social rent by Arklet Housing Association, now part of Hanover Scotland Housing Asscoaition. The area includes one of Glasgow's main hospitals, the New Victoria Hospital (and the buildings of the (old) Victoria Infirmary), and further education institutions, Langside College. Another key local landmark, the Battlefield Rest building and clocktower, is now a restaurant, as is The Church on the Hill, previously the Langside Hill Church.Langside Library, at the junction of Sinclair Drive and Battlefield Road, is the final Carnegie library in Glasgow. The Southside Festival takes place in Queens Park in May annually. It celebrates the cultural diversity and uniqueness of the Southside of the city.

Langside College was a further and higher education college located in the Mount Florida / Battlefield region of Glasgow. It was established in 1947 and enrols over 5,000 students every year of whom many are from countries outwith the European Union. The college operated in two main campuses and in over 80 community based venues spanning much of the South side of Glasgow, including at Rutherglen, Govanhill, Castlemilk and Toryglen.Phase 1 of a newly built main campus was opened in May 2009 while Phase 2, incorporating new sport, music and drama facilities, opened in August 2010. The final phase - an outdoor sports facility - was completed in February 2011. Prior to this, its Category B-listed original main building nearby (built as the Glasgow Deaf and Dumb Institution in 1868) was sold to be converted into apartments as 'Chroma House'.

The New Victoria Hospital is an ambulatory care hospital situated at Langside/Battlefield in the south-east of Glasgow. It is managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Mount Florida railway station is a staffed island platform station on the Cathcart Circle. It serves the Mount Florida and Battlefield areas of Glasgow, Scotland. Services are provided by ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Camphill Queen's Park Baptist Church is a 19th-century church building in the south-side of Glasgow, immediately opposite Queen's Park. It was built in the French Gothic style, on designs by William Leiper. The church hall was built in 1873, while the church was completed by 8 October 1876. The octagonal church spire was completed in 1883.

Crosshill Queen's Park Church is a 19th-century former Church of Scotland parish church near Queen's Park in Glasgow. Nowadays, the building has been converted into residential flats.

Queen's Park Govanhill Parish Church is a 19th-century Parish church of the Church of Scotland located in the south side of Glasgow, near Queen's Park, from which the church's name derives.

Queen's Park railway station is a railway station serving the Queen's Park, Govanhill and Strathbungo areas of Glasgow, Scotland. It is located on the Cathcart Circle Line. Services are provided by ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Cathcart (Scots: Kithcart, Scottish Gaelic: Coille Chart) is an area of Glasgow between Battlefield, Mount Florida, King's Park, Muirend and Newlands. The White Cart Water flows through Cathcart, downstream from Linn Park. In 2014, it was rated one of the most attractive postcode areas to live in Scotland.

Langside Synagogue is a synagogue near Govanhill in Glasgow. It opened in May 1927 and closed in 2014.
