Kingsbridge, Swansea

Kingsbridge (Welsh: Pontybrenin) was an electoral ward in the City and County of Swansea, Wales. It was part of the Llwchwr Town council area. The Kingsbridge ward was bordered by the wards of Gowerton, Cockett and Penderry to the south; Gorseinon and Penllergaer to the north and Upper Loughor to the west. The electoral ward consisted of some or all of the following areas: Kingsbridge, Garden Village and Stafford Common in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. Kingsbridge is a mainly rural ward but it also has a scattering of industrial areas. For election purposes, Kingsbridge is broken down into the polling districts of Kingsbridge and Garden Village. For the 2012 local council elections, the turnout was 36.25%. The results were:

Prior to local government re-organisation in 1996, the town of Gorseinon was administered as part of the Lliw Valley district. Since 1996, Gorseinon has been governed by the City and County of Swansea council. The ward is bounded by Penyrheol to the north west, Penllergaer to the east and Kingsbridge to the south. Gorseinon is a town within the City and County of Swansea, Wales, near the Loughor estuary. It was a small village until the late 19th century when it grew around the coal mining and tinplate industries. It is situated in the north west of Swansea City Centre, around 6 miles (10 km) north west of the city centre. Gorseinon is a local government community with an elected town council. The population of the Gorseinon town council area in the 2011 Census is 8,693. However, the ONS defines an area called the Gorseinon Urban Area which comprises all of the continuous built up area in and around Gorseinon. This area includes Gorseinon, Loughor, Garden Village and Penllergaer and has a population of 20,581.

Greatest Hits Radio South Wales (formerly Swansea Sound) is an Independent Local Radio station owned and operated by Bauer Radio as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. The station broadcasts to Swansea, Cardiff, Newport and surrounding areas from studios in the Gowerton area of Swansea on DAB. Up until 2022, the station broadcast on 1170 kHz across its original target service of the Swansea Bay area. As of September 2023, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 102,000, according to RAJAR.

The ward covered the eastern part of the town of Loughor in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. It was bounded by Lower Loughor and the Loughor estuary to the west; Penyrheol to the north; Kingsbridge to the east and Gowerton to the south. Gowerton railway station (originally Gower Road and later Gowerton North) serves the village of Gowerton, Wales. It is located at street level at the end of Station Road in Gowerton, 219 miles 45 chains (353.4 km) from the zero point at London Paddington, measured via Stroud. The station is unmanned but has a ticket machine, shelters on each platform and live train running information displays.
