Rancho Lomerias Muertas

San Juan Valley, sometimes called San Benito Valley formerly Canada de San Benito or Llano De San Juan: 290, 307  is a valley that has its head near the Gabilan Range. Bounded on the north by the Lomerias Muertas and the Flint Hills and south and east by the Gabilan Range, and the gap between the Gabilan Range and Flint Hills where the San Benito River enters the valley from the east. It terminated where the San Benito River has its confluence the Pajaro River, about 15 miles (24 km) upstream from the river's outlet in Monterey Bay. It is the lowest part of the watershed of the San Benito River and can be considered part of the San Benito Valley. Named for the Mission San Juan Bautista which was established in this valley.

Earthbound Farm is an American farm located near San Juan Bautista, California. It is the largest producer of organic salads in the United States. It was also the first company to produce prewashed, packaged salad greens on an industrial scale.

The San Benito River is a 109 miles (175 km) long river flowing northwesterly between the Diablo Range and the Gabilan Range, on the Central Coast of California. The river begins in southeasternmost San Benito County, California and ends in the extreme northwestern part of the county, where it is a tributary to the Pajaro River. The San Benito River is longer than the Pajaro River and it drains more area, although it has proportionally lower flows.

Sargent station was a railroad depot for Sargent, California. The station stop was established in 1869 when the Santa Clara and Pajaro Valley Railroad extended its line to Sargent. Located near the mouth of Pescadero Creek and adjacent to the Sargent Ranch, the station was named after James Pattee Sargent, who owned the Rancho Juristac Mexican land grant and served in the California State Assembly representing Santa Clara County.

Rancho Juristac was a 4,540-acre (18.4 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Santa Clara County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to Antonio and Faustino German. The rancho (also called "La Brea") was once noted for its liquid petroleum deposits. Rancho Juristac, five miles south of Gilroy, is the southernmost rancho in Santa Clara County, and encompasses Sargent.

Tar Creek is an 8-mile-long (13 km) mainly southeastward-flowing stream originating on the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, in southern Santa Clara County, California, United States. Tar Creek flows through the Sargent Ranch, once the Rancho Juristac Mexican Land grant. It crosses under U.S. Highway 101 and about 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Gilroy, California joins lower Uvas Creek (also known as Carnadero Creek). From the Tar Creek confluence, lower Uvas Creek flows shortly south to its confluence with the Pajaro River at the Santa Clara County - San Benito County boundary.

San Juan Bautista State Historic Park is a California state park encompassing the historic center of San Juan Bautista, California, United States. It preserves a significant concentration of buildings dating to California's period of Spanish and Mexican control. It includes the Plaza Hotel, the José Castro House, and several other buildings facing the historic plaza. It became a state park in 1933. The park is part of the San Juan Bautista Plaza Historic District, along with the adjacent Mission San Juan Bautista and the Juan de Anza House southeast of the park. The district was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. It is also a site on the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.

The Marentis House, at 45 Monterey Street in San Juan Bautista, California, was built in 1873. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.It was designed in Gothic Revival style by George Chalmers, a local builder/architect who was from New England and was believed to have been influenced by Alexander Jackson Davis, an architect who authored/illustrated pattern books. The house was built by Thomas W. Bermingham, another local builder.It has twin gables facing to the front, from a steeply pitched roof, which was originally shingled with redwood shingles. Two upper front windows have Eastlake window hoods and much of the original glass remains in its windows. The house's floors and ceilings are made of redwood tongue-and-groove boards.It received limited earthquake retrofitting in the 1990s along with a mahogany gothic library and rebuilt fireplaces and chimney. The original Eastlake front door was replaced with a gothic style Dutch door.

Mission San Juan Bautista is a Spanish mission in San Juan Bautista, San Benito County, California. Founded on June 24, 1797, by Fermín de Lasuén of the Franciscan order, the mission was the fifteenth of the Spanish missions established in present-day California. Named for Saint John the Baptist, the mission is the namesake of the city of San Juan Bautista. Barracks for the soldiers, a nunnery, the Jose Castro House, the Plaza Hotel and other buildings were constructed around a large grassy plaza in front of the church and can be seen today in their original form. The Ohlone, the original residents of the valley, were brought to live at the mission and baptized, followed by Yokuts from the Central Valley. Mission San Juan Bautista has served mass daily since 1797, and today functions as a parish church of the Diocese of Monterey.

Camp Low, or San Juan Bautista Post, was a military post first established at San Juan Bautista, San Benito County, California in December 1864 by California Volunteers, in response to the attacks of the Mason Henry Gang in the surrounding area, during the American Civil War. The post was named in honor of the Governor of California Frederick F. Low. In December 1864 Major John C. Cremony, marched three companies of California Volunteers under his command into the town of San Juan Bautista. Two were infantry and one was cavalry. They at first bivouacked on the plaza. But soon they made the National Hotel on the plaza their barracks. In February 1865, Company B of the Native Cavalry, California Volunteers arrived from San Francisco at Camp Low under Captain Porfirio Jimeno. On April 12, 1865, Lieutenant John Lafferty and a detachment of Native Cavalry, encountered the outlaw John Mason far to the southwest of the camp at the head of the Great Panoche Valley. Mason made a desperate attempt to escape despite being wounded in the hip by Lafferty's pistol and losing his horse. Lafferty returned to Camp Low on the 13th, bringing the captured horse and Captain Jimeno sent another detachment immediately to keep up the hunt. After the Mason Henry Gang was driven out of central California in May 1865, the post was abandoned in June 1865, following the departure of the Native Cavalry to Arizona Territory.

The José Castro House (Spanish: Casa José Castro), sometimes known as the Castro-Breen Adobe, is a historic adobe home in San Juan Bautista, California, facing the Plaza de San Juan. The Monterey Colonial style house was built 1838-41 by General José Antonio Castro, a former Governor of Alta California. It was later sold to the Breen family, who lived there until 1933, when the house became a museum as part of San Juan Bautista State Historic Park.

The Rozas House is a historic house located at 31 Polk St. in San Juan Bautista, California, United States. The house, which was built in 1856, is long and narrow and consists of a series of rooms opening to the outside and an interior courtyard, an unusual style for wood-frame houses. Ambrozio Rozas Sr., purchased the house soon after its construction; his son, Ambrozio Rozas Jr., and his family occupied the house. Rozas Jr., lived in San Juan Bautista for the rest of his life; after his death, his wife Emelda Lugo Rozas occupied the house until 1950.The Rozas House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
