Bolueta (Bilbao metro)

Basarrate is a station on lines 1 and 2 of the Bilbao metro. The station is located in the neighborhood of Santutxu, in the district of Begoña, in Bilbao. The name of the station comes from the Campa de Basarrate (Spanish for 'Basarrate field'), as the station is located directly below it. It opened on 5 July 1997.

According to research on population density, and data from the Bilbao City Council, Santutxu has the third most densely populated sq/km in Europe, with about 41.378 residents per sq/km, when considering districts of a certain size coming in third place after L'Hospitalet de Llobregat in Greater Barcelona and La Goutte d’or in Paris, neighbourhoods which have slightly more than 50.000 residents per sq/km. However, there is a popular myth among locals that Santutxu is the most densely populated neighbourhood in Europe.

Etxebarri, Doneztebeko Elizatea (Spanish: Etxebarri, Anteiglesia de San Esteban) is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the Autonomous Basque Community, in the North of Spain. Since 13 January 2005, the name of "Etxebarri, Doneztebeko Elizatea" has been changed officially to "Etxebarri" to simplify the name. It translates as "new home/house" (etxe "home", barri "new"). Prior to the introduction of Standard Basque, the town's name was spelled Echevarri. Etxebarri has an area of 33.38 square kilometres and a population of 11,563 people (2019), with a density of 346 inhabitants/km2. Being so close to Bilbao (1.5 kilometres) has had a direct effect on Etxebarri. Until a few decades ago, Etxebarri was a small nucleus in which its rural population worked in industrial areas. Both the population and the industrial land increased considerably because of the congestion of Bilbao and the need for space for the installation of industries. Therefore, there was a significant increase in new population in the locality. In addition, since 2004, the Metro Bilbao underground train has reached Etxebarri. In fact, the threshold stipulated for the town in 2012 is about 10,000 inhabitants. It has a metro station of the Bilbao metro rapid transit service and a train station of the commuter rail service Euskotren Trena.

The Basilica of Begoña (or Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Begoña in Spanish) is a basilica in Bilbao, in Spain, dedicated to the patron saint of Biscay, the Virgin Begoña. The current parish priest is Jesús Francisco de Garitaonandia.

The Begoña Bombing was an attack in the Basilica of Begoña in the Bilbao neighbourhood in Begoña on August 16, 1942, during the first period of the Spanish State (1936–1959), in which a hand grenade, thrown by the Falangist Juan José Domínguez Muñoz, caused seventy minor injuries. The act was interpreted as a failed attempt on the life of Carlist General José Enrique Varela, the Minister of the Army.
