Laurens (village), New York

Laurens is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 2,424 at the 2010 census. The Town of Laurens is in the southern half of the county, north of the City of Oneonta. There is also a village named Laurens, located in the town.

Gifford Hill is a small mountain chain in the Central New York Region of New York. It is located northeast of Oneonta, New York. It is made of three main peaks the highest being 1928 feet. Gifford Hill is named for the Gifford Family who moved to the area in 1803 and settled along the Oneonta Creek on what is now called Gifford Hill.The west side of Gifford Hill drains into Oneonta Creek and the east side of the hill drains into Gifford Creek.

The community is located along New York State Route 205, 8.7 miles (14.0 km) north of Oneonta. Mount Vision has a post office with ZIP code 13810. Mount Vision was formerly known as Jacksonville. A tuberculosis sanatorium was located here in the early 20th century.

Kenyon Residences, also known as Twin Sisters, is a pair of historic home and located at Mt. Vision in Otsego County, New York. They are a pair of Greek Revival style 2-story, wood-frame dwellings. They both have temple form facades characterized by Doric order columns supporting over scaled, elaborately embellished pediments. The house at 62 Main St. was built between 1839 and 1851. The main block of the house at 60 Main St. was also built between 1839 and 1851, with a three-room, 1+1⁄2-story wing added about 1859. Also on the property is a shed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The museum features more than eighty simple science experiments, focusing mainly on physics, for children as well as for adults. Gilbert Lake is a small lake in Otsego County, New York. It is located northwest of Laurens within Gilbert Lake State Park. Lake Brook flows through the lake, then flows southeast before converging with Otego Creek. Lake of the Twin Fawns, located northwest of Gilbert Lake, drains south via Lake Brook into Gilbert Lake.

The New York Summer Music Festival (NYSMF) was a summer program for young musicians held at SUNY Oneonta that operated from 2006 to 2015. The camp offered workshops with accomplished musicians and attendees performed in dozens of free public concerts during each of the program's two-week sessions. At the end of its 2015 season, the program's Executive Director, Jungeun Kim, announced the NYSMF board's decision not to reopen the camp in 2016.
