The New York Summer Music Festival (NYSMF) was a summer program for young musicians held at SUNY Oneonta that operated from 2006 to 2015. The camp offered workshops with accomplished musicians and attendees performed in dozens of free public concerts during each of the program's two-week sessions. At the end of its 2015 season, the program's Executive Director, Jungeun Kim, announced the NYSMF board's decision not to reopen the camp in 2016.

The museum features more than eighty simple science experiments, focusing mainly on physics, for children as well as for adults. In addition to regular visitor hours, the center hosts school and other groups. It also sponsors special events in science education, such as Nano Days and provides family-friendly activities for major events such as Homecoming Weekend and the Otsego County Fair.

Bresee Hall is a historic institutional building located on the campus of Hartwick College at Oneonta in Otsego County, New York. It was designed by architect John Russell Pope and built in 1928. It is a rectangular, three story brick building with a symmetrical thirteen bay facade. The east facade features a projecting, pedimented three bay pavilion. The formal entrance is located at the center of the pavilion and consists of a portico composed of flanking pilasters and columns with composite capitals, a broad entablature and a segmental pediment. The building is topped by a hipped roof with a two-stage octagonal wooden cupola topped by a weather vane. The building has Colonial Revival style detailing.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Hartwick College is a private liberal arts college in Oneonta, New York. The institution's origin is rooted in the founding of Hartwick Seminary in 1797 through the will of John Christopher Hartwick. In 1927, the Seminary moved to expand into a four-year college and was offered land by the city of Oneonta to move to its current location. The college has 1,161 undergraduate students from 30 states and 22 countries, 187 faculty members, and a student-faculty ratio of 11:1.

The district includes 44 structures located on: Dietz Street, Elm Street, Ford Avenue, Maple Street, and Walnut Street. Changes in rental regulations by the city government concern those involved with the preservation of the historic district.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Oneonta ( OH-nee-ON-tə) is a city in southern Otsego County, New York, United States. It is one of the northernmost cities of Appalachia. Oneonta is home to the State University of New York at Oneonta and Hartwick College. SUNY Oneonta began as a normal school and a teacher's college in 1889, and Hartwick College moved into the city in 1928. The approximately 5,800 students from SUNY Oneonta and the approximately 1,500 students at Hartwick make up a significant percentage of the population of Oneonta. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Oneonta had a population of 13,079. Its nickname is "City of the Hills." While the word "oneonta" is of undetermined origin, it is popularly believed to mean "place of open rocks" in the Mohawk language. This refers to a prominent geological formation known as "Table Rock" at the western end of the city. The city is surrounded by the town of Oneonta, a separate municipal and political jurisdiction. Oneonta Municipal Airport (N66) is north of the city.

The Cornfield, also known as Farmers' Independent Benevolent Society Hall, is a historic social hall located at Fly Creek in Otsego County, New York. It was built in 1928 and is a one-story wood-frame building constructed as a meeting space and dance hall for the area's small Slovenian immigrant community. The original section measures 50 feet long by 24 feet, 6 inches wide. The original building was expanded in the late 1950s with a kitchen wing and pavilion.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

George I. Wilber House is a historic home located at Oneonta in Otsego County, New York. It was built in two phases, 1875 and about 1890. It is a three-story wood-frame structure on a stone foundation in the Queen Anne style. It features a three-story, round corner tower, cross gabled roof, and a large, very decorative wrap-around porch with a porte-cochere. In 1997 it became home to the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Oneonta Theatre is a historic theatre building located at Oneonta in Otsego County, New York. The original structure was built about 1897 and expanded in several stages. The original three story structure was a generally rectangular block with storefronts and theater entrance on the first floor and apartments above. A theater wing projected from the rear was set at a 45-degree angle. In 1922, the theater was expanded and the entrance relocated to the center of the building. The 1922 marquee was removed in the 1970s.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. It is located within the Oneonta Downtown Historic District established in 2003.

It encompasses the city's intact commercial and civic core and includes commercial buildings, six churches, the city's historic civil buildings, a few industrial buildings, and a small park. The district includes several separately listed buildings: the Masonic Temple, Old Post Office, Municipal Building, Ford Block, and Oneonta Theatre.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
