Big Flats, New York

Big Flats is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Big Flats in Chemung County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 5,277 at the 2010 census, out of a total population in the town of 7,595.

The Guthrie Corning Hospital is a rural hospital and Level III trauma center in Corning, New York. It opened June 4, 1900 at the Stearns House at East First and Chemung Streets. This was after a January 25 meeting at which the woman of the city considered organizing a hospital association. It initially opened with 9 beds, but today has 65 private patient rooms at the new facility opened in July, 2014, ten years after being acquired by Guthrie. In the transition, the hospital built the Guthrie Corning Cancer Center, a physical rehabilitation building, Guthrie HealthWorks Wellness & Fitness Center, and a same day surgicenter in Big Flats, New York. It received a provisional trauma center designation August 28, 2023.

The National Soaring Museum (NSM) is an aviation museum whose stated aim is to preserve the history of motorless flight. It is located on top of Harris Hill near Elmira, New York, United States.The NSM is the Soaring Society of America's official repository. In 1975, the SSA Board of Directors transferred the Soaring Hall of Fame to the National Soaring Museum.The museum features a large collection of vintage and historical gliders.The museum also administers the National Landmark of Soaring program to recognize people, places and events which are significant in the history of motorless aviation.

Mount Saviour Monastery is a historic farm and monastery campus within a national historic district located near Pine City, Chemung County, New York. It encompasses 10 contributing buildings and 3 contributing sites on a working farm in continuous operation since 1865. The monastery was founded in 1950 and the property is owned by the Benedictine Foundation of New York State. Located on the property are the contributing Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel (1953) and East and West Buildings (1964), St. Joseph's House (1954-1957), St. Peter's House (Former Nagel/Hofbauer House, 1874), St. Gertrude's House (Former Durmstadt House, 1865), Mount Saviour Monastic Cemetery (1960), Good Shepherd Lay Cemetery (1955), St. Peter's Barn (Former Nagel/Hofbauer Barn, c.1890/1942), Main barn (1959), Arts & Crafts Building & Storage (Former Shop Building and Kiln, 1962/1973), Wagner House (Former Neilitz House, 1879), St. James's House (Former Harding House, 1870), and Annex (Former milk house and now monastery guest house, 1870/1961).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.The Monastery of Christ in the Desert in Abiquiú, New Mexico developed from Mount Saviour in 1964.

Arnot Mall is a shopping mall located in Big Flats, New York, in Chemung County. The mall features JCPenney and Burlington, in addition to a 10-screen Regal Cinemas and a Planet Fitness. Arnot Mall is a super regional mall, serving mainly New York's Southern Tier and Finger Lakes Region. The mall is located at 3300 Chambers Road (Chemung County Route 35) and operated by Spinoso Real Estate Group. Arnot Mall is located along the Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 86/NY Route 17) at exit 51A between Corning and Elmira. It is open seven days a week and has over 100 stores in all.

WMTQ is a Catholic radio station broadcasting from Elmira, New York. WMTQ is located at 88.1 on the FM dial. Part of The Station of the Cross, WMTQ is owned and operated by Holy Family Communications which also owns and operates several other stations. The call letters represent Mary the Queen, to whom this station is dedicated. The Station of the Cross relies on the EWTN for the bulk of its programming.

WLNL (1000 AM) is a radio station in Horseheads, New York, United States, serving the Elmira-Corning area. The station is owned by Trinity Media, Ltd. 1000 AM is a United States and Mexican clear-channel frequency; WLNL must leave the air from sunset to sunrise to prevent interference with the nighttime skywave signal of WMVP in Chicago. This frequency was put to use from Horseheads in 1967 as WIQT, a full-service adult contemporary station owned by Manuel Panosian. Panosian successfully applied for a new license for a station at 820 kHz, and in January 1988, WIQT moved there; simultaneously, the 1000 kHz facility was sold and would air Christian programming for the next 33 years. In 2021, the station went silent for seven months and returned with its present conservative talk format under the moniker "The Bell".

WPGO (820 kHz) is a non-commercial AM radio station licensed to Horseheads, New York, serving the Elmira-Corning radio market. It is owned by Montrose Broadcasting, Corporation and airs a Christian radio format, mixing Christian talk and teaching programs with Christian music. Much of the programming is simulcast from sister station WPEL-FM 96.5 FM in Montrose, Pennsylvania. The stations hold periodic fundraisers on the air to support the ministry. The studios are on High Street in Montrose. By day, WPGO is powered at 4,100 watts non-directional. But 820 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A station WBAP Fort Worth. So at night, to avoid interference, it reduces power to 850 watts and uses a directional antenna with a three-tower array.National religious leaders heard on WPGO and WPEL-FM include Jim Daly, Alistair Begg, Chuck Swindoll, Michael Youssef, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, David Jeremiah, Joni Eareckson Tada, John MacArthur and J. The Corning train wreck (also known as the Gibson train wreck) was a railway accident that occurred at 5.21 a.m. on July 4, 1912, on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad at East Corning freight station in Gibson three miles east of Corning in New York State, leaving 39 dead and 88 injured.
