United States Post Office (Cooperstown, New York)

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is a history museum and hall of fame in Cooperstown, New York, operated by private interests. It serves as the central point of the history of baseball in the United States and displays baseball-related artifacts and exhibits, honoring those who have excelled in playing, managing, and serving the sport. The Hall's motto is "Preserving History, Honoring Excellence, Connecting Generations". Cooperstown is often used as shorthand (or a metonym) for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The Hall of Fame was established in 1939 by Stephen Carlton Clark, an heir to the Singer Sewing Machine fortune. Clark sought to bring tourists to the village hurt by the Great Depression, which reduced the local tourist trade, and Prohibition, which devastated the local hops industry. Clark constructed the Hall of Fame's building, which was dedicated on June 12, 1939. (His granddaughter, Jane Forbes Clark, is the current chairman of the board of directors.) The erroneous claim that Civil War hero Abner Doubleday invented baseball in Cooperstown was instrumental in the early marketing of the Hall. An expanded library and research facility opened in 1994. Dale Petroskey became the organization's president in 1999. In 2002, the Hall launched Baseball as America, a traveling exhibit that toured ten American museums over six years. The Hall of Fame has since also sponsored educational programming on the Internet to bring the Hall of Fame to schoolchildren who might not visit. The Hall and Museum completed a series of renovations in spring 2005. The Hall of Fame also presents an annual exhibit at FanFest at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Otsego Hall was a house in Cooperstown, New York, United States, built by William Cooper, founder of the town. Construction started in 1796 and was completed by 1799 in the Federal style. For many years, it was the manor house of Cooper's landed estate, and was one of the largest private residences in central New York. Cooper had moved his family to the settlement in 1790, and his son James Fenimore Cooper, who became an author, also lived in the house. After the death of the senior Cooper and his widow, the mansion was vacant for many years. In June 1834, James Fenimore Cooper resolved to reopen the house after an absence of nearly sixteen years. The building had been long closed and falling into decay. He had it remodelled in a castellated Gothic style. The ceiling on the first floor was raised from ten feet to thirteen feet. Also Gothic windows and battlements were installed. In this, Cooper was assisted by his friend, Samuel F. B. Morse, a painter and inventor, who designed two towers for the front and east sides of the structure. At first, Cooper spent his winters in New York City and summered in Cooperstown, but eventually he made Otsego Hall his permanent abode. The mansion burned down a few years after his death in 1851, and the surrounding property was sold by the heirs. His daughter, Susan Fenimore Cooper, built a house in Cooperstown, built mainly of bricks and material salvaged from the ruins of Otsego Hall.

The Iron Clad Building is a landmarked building in Cooperstown, New York. It was built in 1862 by James Bogardus, the pioneer of cast iron architecture. It is a contributing building to the Cooperstown Historic District.

The Cooperstown Historic District is a national historic district in Cooperstown, Otsego County, New York, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It encompasses 232 contributing properties: 226 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, 3 contributing structures, and 2 contributing objects. Among the contributing properties is the village's post office, which is individually listed on the National Register. In 1997, the boundaries of the historic district were increased to include the Fenimore Farm Stone Agricultural Buildings that were built in 1918 and designed by Frank P. Whiting. Cooperstown was settled in the late 18th century by William Cooper, father of novelist James Fenimore Cooper, whose novels were set in and around Cooperstown.

The Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad Company (reporting mark CACV) is a heritage railroad in New York, operated by the Leatherstocking Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) since 1996.

Willow Brook is a river in Otsego County, New York. It drains out of Moe Pond, flows through Cooperstown, and empties into Otsego Lake.

Doubleday Field is a baseball stadium in Cooperstown, New York named for Abner Doubleday and located two village blocks from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The grounds have been used for baseball since 1920, on what was Elihu Phinney's farm. A wooden grandstand was built in 1924, later replaced by a steel and concrete grandstand built in 1939 by the Works Project Administration. Subsequent expansion has increased seating capacity to 9,791 spectators.

The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital (Bassett Medical Center) is a teaching hospital in Cooperstown, New York. The hospital opened in June 1922. The hospital has 180 beds. It is associated with Columbia University. It is home to the Bassett Cancer Institute.

Cooperstown is a village in and the county seat of Otsego County, New York, United States. Most of the village lies within the town of Otsego, but some of the eastern part is in the town of Middlefield. Located at the foot of Otsego Lake in the Central New York Region, Cooperstown is approximately 60 miles (97 kilometers) west of Albany, 67 mi (108 km) southeast of Syracuse and 145 mi (233 km) northwest of New York City. The population of the village was 1,794 as of the 2020 census. Cooperstown is the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The Farmers' Museum in the village opened in 1944 on farmland that had once belonged to James Fenimore Cooper. The Fenimore Art Museum and Glimmerglass Opera are also based here. Most of the historic pre-1900s core of the village is included in the Cooperstown Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980; its boundaries were increased in 1997 and more contributing properties were identified.

The Otesaga Hotel or Otesage Resort Hotel is a historic hotel located in the Village of Cooperstown, New York on Lake Street (NY-80). It was built in 1909 in the Federal style. The hotel is a contributing building to the Cooperstown Historic District on the Southern shore of Lake Otsego in Cooperstown, New York. It has been selected by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a member of the Historic Hotels of America. The hotel opens each year in mid April and closes after Thanksgiving. It has 135 rooms and occupies 700 feet of Otsego Lake shore. The Otesaga also has two restaurants and features an 18-hole golf course that was also established in 1909. The hotel was designed by architect Percy Griffin, and built by Stephen Carlton Clark and his brother Edward Severin Clark. The hotel's architectural style has been described as both Federal and Neo-Georgian. The front of the building has a portico supported by eight 30-foot wooden columns. The kitchen was originally furnished in 1909 by Duparquet, Huot & Moneuse. The hotel has a reputation for being haunted, and was featured in an episode of the television show, "Ghost Hunters" which originally aired on August 25, 2010.

Blackbird Bay is a bay located on Otsego Lake. It is located in the Village of Cooperstown in the U.S. state of New York. The historic Otesaga Hotel is located on the shore as well as the Leatherstocking Golf Course.

Otsego County Courthouse is a historic courthouse building in Cooperstown, Otsego County, New York. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, brick-and-stone structure on a foundation of coursed ashlar. It was designed by Archimedes Russell (1840–1915) and built in 1880. It features a gable roof, projecting pavilions, and a tower with supporting pavilion and overhanging top stage. The front facade of the building is dominated by a large stained glass window. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
