Mission Bay, San Francisco

Mission Bay was a bay and the estuary of Mission Creek, on the west shore of San Francisco Bay, between Steamboat Point and Point San Quentin or Potrero Point. It is now mostly filled in and is the location of the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco.

The China Basin fire was a five-alarm fire that occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. on March 11, 2014, in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The conflagration appeared to completely destroy Block 5, a 172-unit building, part of Mega Blocks 360, a US$227,000,000 apartment complex being developed by San Francisco-based BRE Properties Inc. at China Basin and Fourth Street.By the end of the day, the 150 firefighters dispatched to the event managed to mostly contain the fire. One firefighter sustained second-degree burns to the face and hands, and a fire chief sprained an ankle, but no other casualties were reported.

UCSF/Chase Center station (formerly known as UCSF/Mission Bay) is a light rail station on the Muni Metro T Third Street line, located in the median of Third Street at South Street in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The station serves the UCSF Mission Bay campus and the Chase Center arena. The station opened with the T Third Street line on January 13, 2007. Its original configuration had two side platforms; the northbound platform was north of South Street, and the southbound platform south of South Street. The station was closed from November 2018 to August 2019 for conversion to a single island platform to better serve the Chase Center which opened in September 2019. The station is also served by Muni bus routes 15 and 22, along with 78X and 79X which provide service to the Chase Center and run only before and after events at the arena. The T Bus and 91 Owl bus routes provide service along the T Third Street line during the early morning and late night hours respectively when trains do not operate. Additionally, the non-profit Mission Bay Transportation Management Association operates two shuttles, the East and Transbay/Caltrain routes.

Mission Rock station is a light rail station on the Muni Metro T Third Street line, located in the median of Third Street at Mission Rock Street in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The station opened with the T Third Street line on January 13, 2007. UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Cancer Center, affiliated with the UCSF School of Medicine and the UCSF Medical Center. It is one of 69 cancer research institutions in the United States supported by the National Cancer Institute, and one of three in Northern California. The HDFCCC integrates basic and clinical science, patient care, and population science to address prevention and early detection of cancer as well as the quality of life following diagnosis and treatment. HDFCCC is a member of the University of California Cancer Consortium, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and Association of American Cancer Institutes. Cancer programs at UCSF have been continuously accredited since 1933 by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

UCSF Bakar Cancer Hospital is a cancer hospital in San Francisco, California, part of the University of California, San Francisco health system. It is part of the UCSF Medical Center campus of Mission Bay. Opened on February 1, 2015, part of a $1.5 billion project. It received the highest level of research funding among California cancer centers from the National Cancer Institute.

Chase Center is an indoor arena in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The building is the home venue for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and occasionally for the University of San Francisco men's and women's basketball teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Warriors, who have been located in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1962, played their home games at Oakland Arena in Oakland from 1971 to 2019. Chase Center opened on September 6, 2019, and seats 18,064 for Warriors games. The arena also includes the Warriors’ practice facility known as the Oracle Performance Center.

Gladstone Institutes is an independent, non-profit biomedical research organization whose focus is to better understand, prevent, treat and cure cardiovascular, viral and neurological conditions such as heart failure, HIV/AIDS and Alzheimer's disease. Its researchers study these diseases using techniques of basic and translational science. Another focus at Gladstone is building on the development of induced pluripotent stem cell technology by one of its investigators, 2012 Nobel Laureate Shinya Yamanaka, to improve drug discovery, personalized medicine and tissue regeneration.Founded in 1979, Gladstone is academically affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and located adjacent to UCSF's Mission Bay campus. The organization comprises five major institutes, as well as multiple centers focused on various areas of research. The current president of the institute is Deepak Srivastava.

Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (CZ Biohub), or simply Biohub, is a nonprofit research organization. In addition to supporting and conducting original research, CZ Biohub acts as a hub and fosters science collaboration between UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco (UCSF) and Stanford. The Biohub’s medical science research center is funded by a $600 million contribution from Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. It is currently co-led by Stephen Quake and Joseph DeRisi. Gajus Worthington was named as Biohub's Chief Operating Officer in 2017 and Sandra Schmid joined as Chief Scientific Officer in 2020.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is a children's hospital system in San Francisco, California, subordinate to the University of California, San Francisco. It has four campuses: the Parnassus Campus, the Mount Zion Campus, and the Mission Bay Campus, and the Oakland campus.The organization provides medical services for "virtually all pediatric conditions, including cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, pulmonology, diabetes and endocrinology, as well as the care of critically ill newborns."

UCSF Betty Irene Moore Women's Hospital is a women's hospital in San Francisco, California, part of the University of California, San Francisco health system. It is part of the UCSF Medical Center camps of Mission Bay. Opened on February 1, 2015, it was the first hospital dedicated to women in the San Francisco Bay Area.
