Somerset, Massachusetts

The Somerset Village Historic District is a historic district encompassing the historic town center of Somerset, Massachusetts. Settled in the 17th century, the village developed around a shipyard and pottery works, and became the town center when it was incorporated out of Swansea in 1790. Architecturally it is reflective mainly of its 19th-century growth, with stylistically diverse buildings. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.

The Taunton River, historically also called the Taunton Great River, is a river in southeastern Massachusetts in the United States. It arises from the confluence of the Town River and Matfield River, in the town of Bridgewater. From there it meanders through the towns of Halifax, Middleborough and Raynham, through the city of Taunton for which it is named, the towns of Berkley, Dighton, Somerset, and the Assonet section of Freetown, to Fall River where it joins Mount Hope Bay, an arm of Narragansett Bay.

Conspiracy Island is a privately owned tidal island situated in the Assonet River off Berkley, Massachusetts. According to the 2000 census, Conspiracy Island is uninhabited. In very low tides, the island is actually a peninsula, accessible across a sandy stretch of land connecting it to a nearby beach. A Gazetteer of the State of Massachusetts, published in 1890, describes the history of localities in Massachusetts. In its listing for Berkley, the book states that the island may have received its name from its connection to King Philip, himself the namesake of King Philip's War. Berkley's history also includes a legend that in 1675 on Conspiracy Island King Phillip formed his confederacy.

North Christian Congregational Church is a historic church located at 3538 North. Main Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. The church was built circa 1842 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The church is a rare survivor, as most of the other first period churches in the city were located downtown and have not survived. It is one of the few remaining public buildings left in the Steep Brook area of Fall River.

The Ashley House (also known as Aunt Polly's House) was a historic house located at 3159 Main Street in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Montaup Electric Company , or Somerset Power LLC, was a coal- and oil-fired power plant located in Somerset, Massachusetts, USA. The plant was closed in 2010, and was owned by Asset Recovery Group of New Jersey but was auctioned off and purchased by William Thibeault in 2013. The plant was slated for eventual demolition and redevelopment of the site but since it has been under new ownership, its final purpose has yet to be decided.

Freetown station is a future MBTA Commuter Rail station located in the Assonet village of Freetown, Massachusetts. It is planned to open in mid-2024 as part of the first phase of the South Coast Rail project. The station will have a single side platform on the west side of the Fall River Secondary, along with a park and ride lot. The Fall River Railroad opened through Freetown in 1845. Two stations on the line in Freetown were open until the 1930s. Freetown was announced as a potential South Coast Rail station in 2009. The planned station site was relocated slightly to the northeast in 2018. A construction contract was issued in 2020, and the station was substantially completed in December 2022.

The Dighton Wharves Historic District is a historic district at 2298-2328 Pleasant Street in Dighton, Massachusetts. It encompasses an area that was in the 18th and 19th centuries a port facility on the Taunton River for the town, including three 18th-century wharves and four houses of early to mid 18th-century construction. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Bark Street School is a historic school building on Stevens Road at Bark Street in Swansea, Massachusetts. Built in 1905, it is the town's only surviving wood-frame school building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Swansea Friends Meeting House and Cemetery, at 223 Prospect Street in Somerset, Massachusetts, are a pair of religious properties believed to include the oldest extant Quaker meetinghouse in the state, with the oldest surviving meetinghouse form in which the pulpit and entrance face each other across the building's short dimension (instead of the 19th century form, where they stand at opposite ends of the long dimension). The oldest portion of the building dates to 1702, when Somerset was part of Swansea. Originally only 24 feet (7.3 m) wide, the building was significantly enlarged in 1746, adding side bays and a second floor gallery. In the 19th century the balconies were closed off to provide office space. The cemetery adjacent to the meetinghouse is also believed to be of great age; its oldest dated marker is 1831, but 18th century Quaker practice did not generally include the laying of markers, so there are likely a number of unmarked early graves.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
