Newton-in-Bowland

Bowland was a rural district in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1974. It was named after the Forest of Bowland, which it included. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 from that part of the Clitheroe rural sanitary district which was in Yorkshire (the rest becoming the Clitheroe Rural District in Lancashire). The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. It was united with the Clitheroe Rural District (and some other territory), as part of the Ribble Valley district in the non-metropolitan county of Lancashire.

Bowland Forest Low is a civil parish in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England, covering some 5,500 acres (22 km2) of the Forest of Bowland. According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 168, falling to 160 at the 2011 Census. The parish includes the hamlets of Whitewell and Cow Ark. From northwards clockwise, it borders the civil parishes of Newton, Bashall Eaves, Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley, Bowland-with-Leagram and Bowland Forest High. Before 1974, it formed part of Bowland Rural District in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Browsholme Hall is a privately owned Tudor house in the parish of Bowland Forest Low in the borough of Ribble Valley, Lancashire (although historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire), England. It is claimed to be the oldest surviving family home in Lancashire. Since 1954, it has been designated a Grade I listed building by English Heritage.

Easington Fell is a Marilyn in the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire, England. It has been surveyed to be 70 cm higher than a nearby fell of almost identical height, namely, Waddington Fell. This is visible in the background of the photo.

Cow Ark Farmhouse is a historic building in the English parish of Bowland Forest Low, Lancashire. It is Grade II listed, built around 1780, and is a sandstone house with a stone-slate roof, in two storeys and two bays. It has three-light mullioned windows, and a doorway with a plain surround.

Bashall Eaves is a village and civil parish in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England, about four miles (6 km) west of Clitheroe. The placename element eaves is Old English and refers to Bashall's location on the borders of the Forest of Bowland. Historically, the village is part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, but was transferred to Lancashire for administrative purposes on 1 April 1974, under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972. According to the 2001 census, the parish of Bashall Eaves had a population of 162, increasing to 192 at the 2011 Census. It covers an area of almost 4000 acres. The village is home to the Red Pump Inn, a post office, a telephone box and a selection of farms. One mile to the east of the village is Bashall Town farm, now home to "Bashall Barn"- a farm shop/restaurant and also "Bowland Brewery" opened in 2003 by Richard Baker. The brewery was moved to Holmes Mill in Clitheroe in 2015. Close by Bashall Town farm is Bashall Hall. Bashall Eaves is predominantly a privately owned country estate historically owned by the Worsley-Taylor family. The Estate is managed by Mr Christopher Orme of Strutt & Parker.

Whitewell Hotel is an historic building in the English parish of Bowland Forest Low, Lancashire. It is Grade II listed, built in 1836, and is in sandstone with a slate roof in two storeys with attics. It consists of a cross wing at the left, and a long main range that has two gables with dormers. The windows are mullioned with chamfered surrounds. On the front is a gabled porch that has a doorway with a chamfered surround. There are ball finials on all the gables.

Higher Lees Farmhouse is an historic building in the English parish of Bowland Forest Low, Lancashire. It is Grade II listed, built around 1780, and is in sandstone with a slate roof, in two storeys and two bays. The windows have three lights and are mullioned. There is a central porch formed by sandstone slabs, and the doorway has a plain surround.A Lower Lees Farmhouse, which is also Grade II listed, is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the southwest.

Whitewell is a village within the civil parish of Bowland Forest Low and Ribble Valley borough of Lancashire, England. It is in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Historically, the village fell just within the boundaries of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It was transferred to Lancashire for administrative purposes on 1 April 1974, under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972. It stands above a bend in the River Hodder. The village comprises Upper and Lower Whitewell. Lower Whitewell is the site of St Michael's, a chapel of ease built in the late medieval period, certainly no later than 1400, which comes under the Lancashire parish of Whalley. The restaurant and hotel, The Inn at Whitewell, is also situated in Lower Whitewell.

St Helen's Church is in the village of Waddington, Lancashire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Whalley, the archdeaconry of Blackburn, and the Diocese of Blackburn. Its benefice is united with that of St Catherine, West Bradford. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Waddington is a small village, 2 miles (3 km) north-west of Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 1,028. Before the 1974 county boundary changes, Waddington fell just within the Bowland Rural District of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It covers approximately 2000 acres of the Forest of Bowland.
