Trout River, New York

Trout River is a border crossing connecting Elgin, Quebec to Constable, New York on the Canada–US border, most prominently featuring the Trout River Border Inspection Station. The crossing can be reached by New York State Route 30 on the American side and by Quebec Route 138 on the Canadian side. Historically, Trout River was the primary crossing of the Trout River, NY port of Entry. This distinction is due to the fact that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection defines a port of entry as 'any designated place at which a CBP officer is authorized to accept entries of merchandise to collect duties, and to enforce the various provisions of the customs and navigation laws'. This means that the border stations of Fort Covington and Churubusco are facilities of the Trout River Port of Entry. There are several buildings near this crossing that were built prior to the establishment of the US-Canada border in 1842. These include a former duty-free shop and two residences.

Constable is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. The population was 1,566 at the 2010 census. The town is named after William Constable, a member of the syndicate of original land owners. The town is in the northern part of the county, along the Canada–United States border north of Malone.

Elgin is a rural municipality in Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 389. It is located southwest of Huntingdon and bounded by the Trout and Chateauguay rivers and the Canada–United States border.

Westville is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 1,819. Westville is on the northern border of the county, northwest of Malone.

Upstate Correctional Facility is a maximum security state prison for men in Franklin County, New York, US. The prison, in the Town of Malone, was the first New York State prison built as a supermax.Upstate C.F. is located near Franklin Correctional Facility and Bare Hill Correctional Facility, both medium security prisons. Upstate C.F. was established in 1998 to house special prisoners with a history of assaultive behavior. Programs available to the prisoners are based on the acceptance of the established rules and other behavior indicating a degree of social conformity. Approximately 350 corrections officers, aided by more than 1000 remote cameras, supervise about 1300 prisoners. Upstate is also a cadre facility. Cadre is the name of the program in which inmates are brought in to work around the prison grounds. The Cadre program holds approximately 300 inmates. The other 1000 inmates are in the SHU, special housing unit. The SHU is more commonly known as the box.

Godmanchester is a township municipality located in Le Haut-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 1,403 The southeast part of the township is mostly delineated by the Chateauguay River, while the south end borders with Franklin County, New York. It was named after Godmanchester, England, in 1811.

Bare Hill Correctional Facility is a medium security state prison in Franklin County, New York, United States. The prison in the Town of Malone. Bare Hill C.F. is located by Franklin Correctional Facility, a medium security prison and Upstate Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison. The prison opened in 1988, and as of 2010 had a working capacity of 1722. Among the programs offered to the inmates is participation in social programs to aid residents of the region. Almost every prisoner has a work assignment, either within or outside the prison.

It has a capacity for 1730 inmates.Franklin Correctional Facility opened in 1986.

Jamieson Line is a closed border crossing connecting Athelstan, Quebec to Burke, New York on the Canada–US border. Canada closed its port of entry on April 1, 2011, and tore down its border inspection station in 2012. The US Customs and Border Protection closed its port of entry on August 21, 2014.
