Karkonosze National Park (Polish: Karkonoski Park Narodowy) is a National Park in the Karkonosze Mountains in the Sudetes in southwestern Poland, along the border with the Czech Republic.The park is located in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the highest part of the Sudetes. It was created in 1959, covering an area of 55.10 km2. Today it is slightly larger at 55.76 km2 (21.53 sq mi), of which 17.18 km2 is strictly protected. The majority of the park area, around 33.80 km2, consists of forests. In 1992 Karkonosze National Park, together with the neighbouring Czech Krkonoše National Park, became part of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme. Also, 40 hectares of peat bogs were designated a Ramsar international wetland site.

The Giant Mountains, Krkonoše, or Karkonosze (Czech: [ˈkr̩konoʃɛ] , Polish pronunciation: [karkɔˈnɔʂɛ] , German: Riesengebirge pronounced [ˈʁiːzn̩ɡəˌbɪʁɡə] ), are a mountain range located in the north of the Czech Republic and the south-west of Poland, part of the Sudetes mountain system (part of the Bohemian Massif). The Czech-Polish border, which divides the historic regions of Bohemia and Silesia, runs along the main ridge. The highest peak, Sněžka (Polish: Śnieżka), is the Czech Republic's highest natural point with an elevation of 1,603 metres (5,259 ft). On both sides of the border, large areas of the mountains are designated national parks (the Krkonoše National Park in the Czech Republic and the Karkonosze National Park in Poland), and these together comprise the Krkonoše/Karkonosze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme. The source of the River Elbe is within the Giant Mountains. The range has a number of major ski resorts, and is a popular destination for tourists engaging in downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling and other activities.

Śląskie Kamienie or Dívčí kameny ("Silesian Rocks" or "Maiden Rocks"; German: Mädelsteine), 1,413 metres (4,636 ft) and Czeskie Kamienie or Mužské kameny ("Bohemian Rocks" or "Man Rocks" in Polish and Czech respectively), 1,416 metres (4,646 ft) is a twin peak and a rock formation situated in the western part of the Giant Mountains on Polish-Czech border within the Karkonosze National Park on the Polish–Czech Friendship Trail. The rocks are up to 8 m high.

Czeskie Kamienie or Mužské kameny ("Bohemian/Czech Rocks" or "Man Rocks" in Polish and Czech respectively), 1,416 metres (4,646 ft) and Śląskie Kamienie or Dívčí kameny ("Silesian Rocks" or "Maiden Rocks"), 1,413 metres (4,636 ft) is a twin peak and a rock formation situated in the western part of Krkonoše on Polish and Czech border within the Karkonosze National Park on the Polish–Czech Friendship Trail. The rocks are up to 8 m high.

Špindlerův Mlýn (Czech pronunciation: [ˈʃpɪndlɛruːv ˈmliːn]; German: Spindlermühle, formerly also Spindelmühle) is a town in Trutnov District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,100 inhabitants. It lies in the Giant Mountains and it is one of the most frequented ski resorts in the country.

Smogornia (Czech: Stříbrný hřbet, German: Mittagsberg; 1,489 metres (4,885 ft) a.s.l.) is a peak in the Giant Mountains on the Czech-Polish border. It is situated in the eastern part of the main range. The peak is not accessible; the main Sudetes trail and Polish–Czech Friendship Trail traverses the mountain c. 300 m north from the peak. On the northern slope of the mountain there is a glacial cirque. The mountain has mild slopes, mostly deforested, covered in mountain pine.

The Krkonoše/Karkonosze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (Czech: [ˈkr̩konoʃɛ] , Polish: [karkɔˈnɔʂɛ]) is a MAB transboundary biosphere reserve, mixed mountain and highland system designated by UNESCO as Krkonoše/Karkonosze Mountains in 1992. It is shared by the Czech Republic and Poland. Notably, it is one of only two successful transboundary management structures in existence, aside from the East Carpathians Biosphere Reserve, due to contrasting goals in other shared areas covered by MAB.

Przesieka [pʂɛˈɕɛka] is a village in Lower Silesia, southwestern Poland. It belongs to Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in Jelenia Góra County, Gmina Podgórzyn. It is one of the most important centres of mountain hiking. It lies approximately 12 km (7 mi) south-west of Jelenia Góra, and 103 km (64 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław. It is 15 minutes drive from the centre of Jelenia Góra (5 minutes drive from Cieplice Spa). There is a regular city bus going to Przesieka from Jelenia Góra central train station. Several hiking routes to Karkonosze Mountains begin in Przesieka. One of the most widely used is a route (2 h walk) to Przełęcz Karkonoska. Other popular routes lead to Chojnik Castle (1 hour walk), and Karpacz (1.5 h walk). An interesting place to visit in Przesieka is Podgórna Waterfall (547 m above sea level).

Wielki Staw (1,225 metres (4,019 ft), Polish for The Big Pond, Grosser Teich in German) - post glacial natural lake in the Krkonoše mountains, in western Poland. It is situated in the Karkonosze National Park at the bottom of the cirque, on the southern slope of the Smogornia mountain.With its area of 8.3 hectares, it is the biggest glacial lake in the whole range. Its depth reaches 25 m, the shores are covered in subalpine species. Waters of the lake host rare species, some of them even extinct like Isoetes lacustris. Due to the regulations of a nature reserve, the object is closed and can be watched only from the top of the cirque. The place is accessible from the Polish–Czech Friendship Trail (red marks).

Luční hora (Polish: Łączna Góra, German: Hochwiesenberg, literally Meadow Mountain), is the cumulonimbus mountain located in the Krkonoše mountains about 5.5 km northwest of the town Pec pod Sněžkou and 4 km east of the town Špindlerův Mlýn to which cadastral belongs. It is the second highest mountain in the Czech Republic and the highest peak of the Bohemian ridge. The mountain peak is a plain, flat and relatively large. To the north and west side of the mountain occurs avalanche slopes. The mountain is located in Zone I of Krkonoše National Park. Geologically, the mountain is formed of schist, shaped into clusters, intersected by quartzite. In the Czech Republic it is a unique example of cruised and polygonal soils. There can also be found cryoplanatial terraces and stone seas.

Zachełmie [zaˈxɛu̯mjɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Podgórzyn, within Jelenia Góra County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) south-west of Podgórzyn, 11 km (7 mi) south-west of Jelenia Góra, and 103 km (64 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław.

Borowice [bɔrɔˈvit͡sɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Podgórzyn, within Jelenia Góra County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.It lies approximately 13 km (8 mi) south of Jelenia Góra, and 102 km (63 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław.
