Empire Union School District

Peter Johansen High School is public school located in the eastern portion of Modesto, CA. It is part of Modesto City Schools and serves students in grades 9-12. The school is a two-story structure with brick exterior. It features an Olympic-sized pool, two baseball fields, a softball and soccer field, three indoor full-size basketball courts, tennis courts, and a football stadium across the street from the campus. The enclosed campus has two bridges crossing the middle and southern portions of the school. The majority of the classrooms are located in three buildings; others are located in portables located in the southwest corner of the campus. The school colors evolved from purple/turquoise/white to the present purple/black during the late 1990s. The school opened in the fall of 1992 to only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. The first graduating class received their diplomas in the spring of 1994; with the gradual enlargement of the student body, 1996 was the first four-year graduating class. The school was recognized for its building design excellence with the 1993 D. MacConnell Award from the Council of Educational Facilities Planners International and attracted a visit from the school trustees of West Sacramento's Washington Union School District who were looking to duplicate the successful campus construction.

Modesto station is a staffed Amtrak station in Modesto, California. It serves the on the San Joaquin line. Designed by Pacific Design Associates of Modesto and VBN Architects of Oakland, the $2.4 million depot was built on four acres of former dairy pastureland. The station has one platform which serves a single track. Before November 12, 1999, trains stopped instead in Riverbank, about 4 miles north. In the past trains also stopped at the Modesto Transportation Center, which was built by the Southern Pacific Transportation Company in 1915, and in the future rail service will move there again when the Altamont Corridor Express begins service to Modesto.Modesto is the point where the San Joaquin splits, with trains bound for the Bay Area continuing to Stockton's San Joaquin Street station and trains heading to Sacramento continuing to Stockton–Downtown station.

The Tuolumne River Regional Park is a large urban park under development along a seven-mile (11 km) stretch of the Tuolumne River between the cities of Ceres, California and Modesto, California consisting of 500 acres(.78 mi2, 2.02 km2) of public grounds in Stanislaus County, California.

The Empire City Historic Landmark is a California Historic Landmark in honor of the pioneer John C. Marvin who from 1850, settled on the south bank of the Tuolumne River and called the town "Empire City". Empire City was the head of navigation for small steamboats that could ascend the Tuolumne River carrying passengers and supplies. It was the shipping point for the large grain crops grown in the area. At its height, the town had three stores, a three-story hotel, two boarding houses, a blacksmith shop, a church, and a school house. Empire City was voted as the county seat of Stanislaus County from October 1854 to December 1855. The town was destroyed by flood waters during the Great Flood of 1862. A new railroad town was built 40 years later 1 mile north of the old town site, taking the name Empire.

Ceres River Bluff Regional Park is a regional park in Ceres, California in the United States. It covers 76 acres (31 ha) along the Tuolumne River adjacent to Modesto. It is part of the City of Ceres park system.

La Loma is a neighborhood in central Modesto, California. The earliest accounts of La Loma attribute to a small settlement called "Ripperdan" that flourished in 1871, until its demise in the 1900s. The neighborhood was named after La Loma Avenue that diagonally intersects the area. The name la loma means "the hill" in Spanish. Other Spanish names located in the neighborhood are El Río, La Sombra, Buenavista, Bonita, Cuesta, Las Flores, Santa Rosa, Roble, Las Palmas, and Escuelita. This area is recognized by the City of Modesto as a neighborhood within city limits, named La Loma Neighborhood.

Ceres is a city in Stanislaus County, California. Its population was 49,302 at the 2020 U.S. Census, up from 45,417 at the 2010 U.S. Census. It is part of the Modesto metropolitan statistical area. Ceres is located in the San Joaquin Valley along State Route 99, south of Modesto and north of Turlock in Stanislaus County. Ceres is named after the Roman goddess of agriculture. The newspaper in Ceres is called the Ceres Courier, which has been in publication since 1910. The offices of the Ceres Courier were relocated from an address in downtown Ceres in 2012. It has since combined day-to-day operations with its sister paper, the Turlock Journal, in Turlock. Jeff Benziger was appointed editor in 1987. The city also has a Spanish-language paper. Ceres hosts annual events at different times of the year. Spring brings the Ceres Street Faire on the first weekend in May. Skies the Limit, Ceres Hot Air Balloon Festival, Concert in the Park is a regular summer event. Halloween Fun Festival marks the fall, followed by the colorful, and much-attended, Christmas Tree Lane opening ceremony.
