Peter Johansen High School is public school located in the eastern portion of Modesto, CA. It is part of Modesto City Schools and serves students in grades 9-12. The school is a two-story structure with brick exterior. It features an Olympic-sized pool, two baseball fields, a softball and soccer field, three indoor full-size basketball courts, tennis courts, and a football stadium across the street from the campus. The enclosed campus has two bridges crossing the middle and southern portions of the school. The majority of the classrooms are located in three buildings; others are located in portables located in the southwest corner of the campus. The school colors evolved from purple/turquoise/white to the present purple/black during the late 1990s. The school opened in the fall of 1992 to only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. The first graduating class received their diplomas in the spring of 1994; with the gradual enlargement of the student body, 1996 was the first four-year graduating class. The school was recognized for its building design excellence with the 1993 D. MacConnell Award from the Council of Educational Facilities Planners International and attracted a visit from the school trustees of West Sacramento's Washington Union School District who were looking to duplicate the successful campus construction.

It is a member of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section#Central California Athletic League CCAL and has multiple MMC championship titles from the prior athletic league. The school is locally known for having the highest academic performance index of any high school in Stanislaus County, with an API of 820 in 2011. The school has four "career pathway programs": Cinema and Graphic Arts, Software & Systems Development, Forensic/Biotech Science, and Pre-Vet Science.

Empire Community Park is a community park in Empire, Stanislaus County, California. It includes the Empire Community Pool and the Empire City (Historic Landmark) memorial.

KESP (970 AM) is an all-sports radio station in Modesto, California, United States. The station serves Modesto, Stockton, Lodi, and surrounding communities of the northern San Joaquin Valley. It is currently owned by Cumulus Media. Its studios are in Stockton, and its transmitter is located in Modesto. KESP is the flagship station of the Modesto Nuts of the Low-A West baseball league, and the flagship station of Pacific Tigers college basketball team. It is also a member of the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco 49ers, San Jose Sharks, Golden State Warriors, and California Golden Bears radio networks. Most of its daily programming, as the call letters imply, came from ESPN Radio, until January 2, 2013, when KESP switched to CBS Sports Radio. KESP gained its current call sign, and format, in the early 2000s. Other call signs used since it came on the air in 1951 were: KBOX (1951–1956), KBEE (1956–1983), KHYV (1983–1988), KOOK (1988–1992(?)/1996(?)), KBUL (1996–1998), and KANM (1998–2000).The station was owned by the McClatchy family, which also owned McClatchy Newspapers, publisher of the Modesto Bee. (The McClatchy Company has since sold the station to Citadel Broadcasting, which merged with Cumulus Media on September 16, 2011.) In a sports-related note, Kevin McClatchy, a member of the publishing family, owned the Pittsburgh Pirates until the team was sold to Robert Nutting in 2007.

Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant is located just outside Riverbank, California, in Stanislaus County. The facility was built in 1942 as an aluminum reduction plant operated by Alcoa producing 48,000 tons per year for World War II aircraft manufacture until 1944. It was reactivated in 1951 for the Korean War and was the United States' largest producer of steel cartridge cases until 1958. It reopened in 1966 manufacturing mortar shells and projectiles for the Vietnam War and remained in production until 1981. The facility includes 192 buildings on 172 acres (0.70 km2).In 2005, the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommended that the base be closed and its functions transferred to Rock Island Arsenal. The Riverbank Local Redevelopment Authority assumed responsibility for the site in 2010.In 2022, Aemetis acquired a 24-acre Site in Riverbank, California, for carbon capture and sequestration injection wells. Part of the 125-acre Riverbank Industrial Complex, the site is planned for the annual permanent sequestration of 1 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide from industrial and agricultural sources. Aemetis has a mission to transform renewable energy with below zero carbon intensity transportation fuels. Aemetis has launched the Carbon Zero production process to decarbonize the transportation sector using today’s infrastructure.

The Empire City Historic Landmark is a California Historic Landmark in honor of the pioneer John C. Marvin who from 1850, settled on the south bank of the Tuolumne River and called the town "Empire City". Empire City was the head of navigation for small steamboats that could ascend the Tuolumne River carrying passengers and supplies. It was the shipping point for the large grain crops grown in the area. At its height, the town had three stores, a three-story hotel, two boarding houses, a blacksmith shop, a church, and a school house. Empire City was voted as the county seat of Stanislaus County from October 1854 to December 1855. The town was destroyed by flood waters during the Great Flood of 1862. A new railroad town was built 40 years later 1 mile north of the old town site, taking the name Empire.
