Encina High School is an American 6-12 public school located in Arden-Arcade, California. It is a member of the San Juan Unified School District located on the western end of the SJUSD. While the school thrived during its early years of existence and into the 1980s, it has since suffered from low enrollment and been suggested for closure several times in its recent history. It includes the Advanced Path Program students. Richard Judge is the current high school principal; Heidi Garner and Michelle Speed act as vice principals.Encina students come from the surrounding Arden Arcade area and their biggest school rival would be San Juan High School, also located within the SJUSD. Encina currently offers a 7 period modified block schedule which includes an Advocacy class daily. Encina High School opened its doors September 2, 1958, welcoming freshmen and sophomore classes and graduated their first class in the spring of 1961. Students were asked for their input on school colors and mascot and choose Cardinal Red and Gold and the Apaches. During the 1989–1990 school year, the San Juan Unified School District requested that Encina change their mascot from an Apache to something more culturally sensitive, and so the class of 1991 were the very first Encina Bulldogs. In 1995 Encina garnered national attention when a riot broke out after on campus police officers used pepper spray and batons against students in the cafeteria. Students involved in the incident insisted that it was the overreaction of law enforcement to an argument between two youths that led to six students being arrested and nine others being sent to the hospital to be treated for bruises and adverse reactions to inhaling pepper spray.While plagued with isolated acts of violence in previous years, there have been no major disturbances on campus during the past decade. Encina is known for its rich basketball tradition and every year since 2000 a fundraiser basketball game is played between the alumni and current students which raises thousands of dollars that go towards improving student programs for the kids. Located in the heart of Arden, the campus is just one mile east of Arden Fair Mall.

The Guy West Bridge is a suspension bridge for pedestrian and bicycle traffic spanning the American River in Sacramento in Sacramento County, California, linking the campus of California State University, Sacramento with the neighboring Campus Commons development. It was designed to resemble the Golden Gate Bridge, both in form and signature international orange color.

Arden Way is a major east-west arterial in Sacramento County, California, United States. It is approximately 8 miles (13 km) long and runs through Sacramento and the unincorporated suburbs of Arden-Arcade and Carmichael.

The University Arboretum is the arboretum and botanic garden of the California State University, Sacramento at 6000 J Street, Sacramento, California, at J Street and Carlson Drive.Founded in 1945 on what used to be a pear orchard and hop ranch, the arboretum was originally named the Charles M. Goethe Arboretum in honor of Charles Goethe (1875–1966, pronounced "geh-teh"), a land developer, philanthropist, conservationist, eugenicist, and one of the university's founding fathers. "The name was changed without fanfare to University Arboretum in 2005" because of renewed attention to Goethe's virulently racist views, praise of Nazi Germany, and advocacy of eugenics.Located on a 3-acre (12,000-sq m) site, the arboretum is open daily from dawn to dusk and has some 1200 trees. Of particular interest is a wide-ranging conifer collection as well as several rare plants, including Taiwania and the "living fossil" Wollemia. The arboretum has a "Jurassic Park" section with flowering plants species dating back to the age of dinosaurs and another section for California native plants, with some 50 different species represented.Mike Baad, a retired professor who volunteered at the arboretum since he joined the university in 1969, is the University Arboretum's longtime director.

Bushy Lake is a small lake located in Sacramento, California along the American River Parkway. The area is part of an ongoing restoration project, it also provides habitat to wildlife and offers nearby recreation opportunities. The area is prone to drought, erosion, species invasion, fire, and groups of transient populations. In the American River Parkway Plan, the lake is designated as a Nature Study Area and further protected by the Bushy Lake Preservation Act.

The Hornets Nest is a 1,012-seat multi-purpose gymnasium at California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State) in Sacramento, California. The arena opened in 1955, and is one of the oldest in D-I sports. It is home to the Sacramento State Hornets men's basketball, women's basketball, and women's volleyball teams. In 2008, Sacramento State named the floor Colberg Court, in honor of 32-year volleyball head coach Debby Colberg, who retired after the 2007 season. The coach with the most career victories in any sport at Sacramento State, Colberg posted an 828–292 record, garnered two national titles and posted winning volleyball seasons in 30 of her 32 years as head coach.

California State University, Sacramento (CSUS, Sacramento State, or informally Sac State) is a public university in Sacramento, California. Founded in 1947 as Sacramento State College, it is the eleventh oldest institution in the California State University system. The university enrolls approximately 31,500 students annually, 31,573 in Fall 2021. It also has an alumni base of more than 250,000 and awards 9,000 degrees annually. The university offers 151 different bachelor's degrees, 69 master's degrees, 28 types of teaching credentials, and 5 doctoral degrees.The campus sits on 305 acres (123 ha), covered with over 3,500 trees and over 1,200 resting in the University Arboretum. The university is home to one site of the National Register of Historic Places, the Julia Morgan House. The Arbor Day Foundation officially declared the university "Tree Campus USA" in 2012. Sacramento State is an Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) and is eligible to be designated as an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander serving institution (AANAPISI).

Sacramento State University Library is the central library for the campus of California State University, Sacramento. With over 1.4 million volumes, it is the third largest library in the California State University. It is part of the California State Depository Library Program. The library features 79 private study rooms, 4 meeting rooms, and 14 instructional classrooms. The library houses 200 public access research computer stations, 120 faculty/staff personal computers, and 5 computer classrooms ranging in capacities of 40 to 100. There are currently 27 full-time librarians and 34 library assistants. The library also features a number of group study rooms, individualized private rooms for graduate students, and individual study lounges.

The California State Fair is the annual state fair for the state of California. The fair is held at Cal Expo in Sacramento, California. The Fair is a 17-day event showcasing California's industries, agriculture, and diversity of people. The CSF features blue-ribbon animal displays, culinary delights and competitions, live music concerts, a carnival, fireworks, and other family fun. In 2018, officials reported daily attendance drew between 20,000 and 60,000 people per day and about $8.5 million of food and beverage expenditures. The fair is policed by the California Exposition and State Fair Police. The Covid-19 pandemic caused losses of around $16 million in revenue and impacted over 800 seasonal workers. Cal Expo is now a temporary Covid-19 testing site, homeless trailer site, and a go-to partner during the state's battle with wildfires.

The California Exposition and State Fair (Cal Expo) is an independent state agency established by law in the California Food and Agriculture codes. Cal Expo is governed by an appointed 11-member Board of Directors and daily operations are managed by the chief executive officer (selected by the Board). During the annual California State Fair more than 2,000 seasonal temporary employees are hired. The California Exposition is a self-sufficient operation that receives no government funding but still has an estimated economic impact of more than $250 million on the region. The California Exposition and State Fair Police provides safety and security services to the Exposition.
