Ashokan High Point

High Point (frequently called Ashokan High Point) is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York west of Olivebridge. Mombaccus Mountain is located southwest, and South Mountain is located north of High Point.

South Mountain, 2,185 feet in elevation, is a lesser summit in the New York Catskill Mountains massif that includes Ashokan High Point, Mombaccus Mountain and Little Rocky. Its northwest slope descends to Watson Hollow, its southwest slope to South Hollow and its eastern side rises above High Point Mountain Road in the Olive hamlet of West Shokan. Following a 2005 court ruling against the town of Olive, a prominently visible cell phone tower was erected on a patch of private property on the ridge north of the South Mountain summit.

Mombaccus Mountain is located in the Catskill Mountains of New York. To the south, it looms over the hamlet of Samsonville in the town of Olive. Together with Little Rocky and South Mountain, Mombaccus Mountain is part of a massif dominated by Ashokan High Point. Below its north slope is the Kanape Brook trail, an old wagon road that leads to a saddle between Mombaccus and Ashokan High Point. Big Rosy Bone Knob, a lesser summit, lies southwest of Mombaccus Mountain. According to historian DeWitt Davis, Mombaccus was "noted for huckleberries and bears" and bear traps were dug on its slopes.The placename Mombaccus ("mask of Bacchus" in Greek), was given by Dutch settlers to the area now known as the town of Rochester. It was inspired by a carving of a face (likely the Algonkan bear god Maysingwey) found on a sycamore tree where Rochester Creek (formerly known as Mombaccus Creek) enters Rondout Creek Today, Mombaccus is used as the name of a hamlet within Rochester on County Route 3 and for a tributary of Rochester Creek. The name Mombaccus was not given to the mountain until much later. When the town of Olive was formed, the area south of Mombaccus was known as "Subbeatty Land" and old deeds for properties on its slopes still refer to it as "Subbeatty Mountain."

The railway station of the hamlet of Brodhead's Bridge in Olive, New York was at milepost 18.1 on the Ulster and Delaware Railroad. It was a destination for tourists and vacationers from New York City who would stay at local resort homes (boarding houses) and use the nearby Esopus Creek to swim and fish. Similar resort villages named Atwood and Olive Bridge were also served by this station, which was abandoned in 1913 before it was submerged by the waters of the newly built Ashokan Reservoir.

Common School No. 10 is a historic one-room school building located in Accord in Ulster County, New York. It is a 1-story, two-by-three-bay, frame building on a fieldstone foundation built about 1870. It is topped by a gable roof with an open belfry. It operated as a school until 1955. Also on the property is a privy, shed, and well with hand pump.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.Now known as Palentown School House Museum, the school is open twice a year and by appointment.

Palentown is a hamlet in Ulster County, New York, United States. Named, like Palenville in Greene County, for a family that ran tanneries in the Catskills in the mid-19th century, Palentown is situated inside the Catskill Park in the northwest part of the town of Rochester. Palentown is located off Ulster County Route 3 (Samsonville Road) just south of the Rochester-Olive town line. The hamlet is northeast of the nearby hamlet of Riggsville and south of the Olive hamlet of Samsonville. It is within the Kerhonkson, New York ZIP Code.
