Deggendorf (district)

Deggendorf (Bavarian: Degndorf, Deggndorf) is a town in Bavaria, Germany, capital of the Deggendorf district. It is located on the left bank approximately in the middle between the Danube cities of Regensburg and Passau. The Danube forms the town's natural border towards the south. Towards the west, north and east the town is surrounded by the foothills of the central Bavarian Forest. Near the southwestern rim of the town, the railway bridge crosses the Danube at river-kilometer 2286. Directly south of the town Autobahn A3 and A92 form an important crossing. A few miles downstream, east of the district Deggenau, lies the confluence of the River Isar with the Danube.

The Isar [ˈiːzaʁ] is a river in Austria and in Bavaria, Germany. Its source is in the Karwendel mountain range of the Alps. The Isar river enters Germany near Mittenwald and flows through Bad Tölz, Munich, and Landshut before reaching the Danube near Deggendorf. With 295 km length, it is among the longest rivers in Bavaria. It is Germany's second most important tributary of the Danube.

The Deggendorf Institute of Technology, founded in 1994, is the University of Applied Sciences in Lower Bavaria, Germany. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate courses, the Deggendorf Institute of Technology offers doctoral programmes in cooperation with the Charles Sturt University. Several new buildings have been added to its campus.

Deggendorf Hauptbahnhof a railway station in the German state of Bavaria, classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. It is not currently part of any transport association, so standard DB fares apply. It is planned that it will be integrated in the network area of the Transport Community of Deggendorf District (Verkehrsgemeinschaft Landkreis Deggendorf).

The Gerhard Neumann Museum is an aviation museum located in the German village of Niederalteich in Bavaria. The museum chronicles the work of German aero engine designer, Gerhard Neumann, in particular the General Electric J79 turbojet and Lockheed F-104 Starfighter which this engine powered. Many aerospace exhibits are on display including fixed-wing aircraft and aircraft engines.

Schaufling is a municipality in the district of Deggendorf in Bavaria in Germany.

Niederaltaich Abbey (Abtei or Kloster Niederaltaich) is a house of the Benedictine Order founded in 741, situated in the village of Niederalteich on the Danube in Bavaria.

The Dreitannenriegel is a mountain, 1,090.2 m above sea level (NHN), in the Bavarian Forest. The mountain rises from the crest of the Anterior Bavarian Forest high above the Lower Bavarian county town of Deggendorf and lies in the municipality of Grafling. Nearby mountains are the Breitenauriegel, the Geißkopf and the Einödriegel.At the summit is a large summit cross and a display board, that explains the panorama which extends over large parts of Lower Bavaria. On clear autumn days in föhn conditions the Bavarian Alps may also be visible. Several footpaths lead to the Dreitannenriegel from Grafling, Gotteszell, Habischried, Bischofsmais and Rusel. One of the steepest ascents in the Anterior Bavarian Forest runs along Path 3 from Mietraching in Deggendorf up through the Sauloch to Rohrmünz (c. 45 minutes) and from there almost directly up the fall line to the top. This section should only be attempted with suitable footwear as, especially in the area of the summit, smooth rock faces have to be negotiated. The summit and a large proportion of the mountainsides are part of the Special Area of Conservation called the Deggendorfer Vorwald.

Grafling is a municipality in the district of Deggendorf in Bavaria in Germany.

The 1,043-metre-high Geißriegel is a mountain in the Danube Hills, the anterior part of the Bavarian Forest, southwest of the Lower Bavarian county town of Regen and northeast of the county town of Deggendorf. It lies within the municipality of Grafling in the county of Deggendorf. Together with the Dreitannenriegel (1090.2 m), the Steinberg (999 m), the Hochoberndorfer Berg (806.7 m) and the Ulrichsberg (636 m), it forms a group of mountains to the east of the valley of Graflinger Tal that separate the villages of Grafling and Bischofsmais. Other nearby peaks are the Breitenauriegel and the Geißkopf.
