Ravenna Park

JuneBaby is a Southern restaurant in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. The business received the James Beard Foundation Award for Best New Restaurant.

Ravenna Creek is a stream in the Ravenna and Roosevelt neighborhoods of Seattle, Washington, whose present daylighted length of nearly 3,500 feet (1.1 km) is entirely within the Ravenna & Cowen Parks. Ravenna Creek used to drain Green Lake into Lake Washington's Union Bay, but urban development and the lowering of the two lakes in 1911 and 1916 resulted in the disappearance of the creekbed between Green Lake and Cowen Park and between Ravenna Park and Union Bay. Ravenna Creek's current source is a wetland in the northwest corner of Cowen Park, at NE 62nd Street and Brooklyn Avenue NE. It is also fed by springs throughout Ravenna Park, and is joined there by a second branch which begins near the intersection of NE 65th Street and 23rd Avenue NE. Until 2006, the creek ended at a sewer grate where the park's trail system opened into a soccer field. A daylighting project completed in May 2006 disconnected the creek from the sewer system and extended its bed 650 feet (200 m) towards the southeast corner of Ravenna Park, at which point it enters a pipeline. This pipeline, which runs southward along 25th Avenue NE to the NE 45th Street viaduct, empties into University Slough, thereby reconnecting Ravenna Creek to Lake Washington. In 2008, a major sewage spill of 8,000,000 US gallons (30,000,000 L) of raw sewage flooded the creek in an accident caused by King County utility crews working nearby.

The Park Vista is a historic building in Seattle, Washington. It is situated on a triangular parcel whose full address is 5810 Cowen Pl. N.E., Seattle, WA 98105. To the northwest is Cowen Park and beyond that the Roosevelt neighborhood; to the south is the northern extreme of the University District; and to the east is the Ravenna neighborhood. The building's entrance and garden lie along the hypotenuse of the right-triangle and overlook Cowen Park.

The Cowen Park Bridge is a reinforced concrete arch bridge in Seattle, Washington. The bridge has a length of 358 feet (109 m) and carries 15th Avenue NE across a ravine in the Cowen Park. The bridges acts as a dividing line in the Ravenna-Cowen Park contiguous area, with the smaller area west of the bridge deemed Cowen Park and the larger area east of the bridge considered Ravenna Park. The bridge, which spans from NE 62nd Street to Cowen Place NE, connects the northern Roosevelt/Ravenna neighborhood with the beginning of the University District. The Cowen Park Bridge is one of two bridges that span the Ravenna Park ravine (the other being the 20th Avenue NE Bridge built in 1913) but is the only one open to vehicular traffic. The bridge was built in 1936 under the authority of the Works Progress Administration. The bridge engineer was Clark Eldridge. The structure is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and it is a designated city landmark. The bridge has been praised for the 12 ft (3.7 m) Art Deco light standards along its sides.

Ravenna is a neighborhood in northeastern Seattle, Washington named after Ravenna, Italy. Though Ravenna is considered a residential neighborhood, it also is home to several businesses, many of which are located in the University Village, a shopping mall. Ravenna Park, located near University Village and the walking or biking route connecting Green Lake to Burke–Gilman Trail, is located within the neighborhood.

Jet City Improv is a Short Form Improvisation troupe that performs in the Seattle, Washington area. The troupe was founded in 1992 and is operated by Wing-It Productions.

Roosevelt High School (RHS) is a public secondary school located in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, United States. Opened in 1922 to relieve overcrowding at Lincoln High School, it ranks as the second-largest high school in Seattle Public Schools. NPR described RHS as "an above-average school in a below-average school district" based on test scores in 2001.

The Grand Illusion Cinema is the longest running independent cinema in the city of Seattle, Washington, and has become a landmark of the film community. Opened as The Movie House in March 1970 by Randy Finley at 1403 NE 50th St in a converted dentist's office the cinema became the city's first intimate arthouse and showcased foreign and revival films. The cinema's success led to Randy creating the Movie House in Portland, Oregon in 1973. He then took over the Guild 45th Theater and created the Seven Gables Theatre at 50th and Roosevelt in Seattle. They, and other theaters, became the Seven Gables Theatre Chain, which was later merged with Landmark Theatres. The Grand Illusion was never part of the Seven Gables chain and remained a popular independent venue. Non-profit film arts organization, the Northwest Film Forum, saved the theater from closure in 1997, remodeled it, and revitalized interest in the institution. In 2004 the cinema was sold to a group of investors including several staff members. It exists today as a completely volunteer-run, non-profit organization. The Grand Illusion shows a wide variety of films ranging from new independent and foreign films, repertory classics, documentaries, and a consistent supply of "late nights" on the weekend which feature horror, sci-fi, and exploitation films. Over the years the cinema has been host to such people as Quentin Tarantino, Takashi Miike, Alex Cox, Eddie Izzard, Stuart Gordon, Don Hertzfeldt, Dennis Nyback, and the cast of Troll 2. In 2008, along with such seminal theatres as the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin and the Film Forum in New York, The Grand Illusion was named one of the best movie houses in America by Paste Magazine.

The University Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Washington, United States is a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation with 3,418 members. The current senior pastor is George Hinman.The church was founded in 1908. The church had a large membership increase during the 1980s, when it was led by pastor Bruce Larson; Larson subsequently became co-pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. In 2001, the average weekly attendance was 5,000; it is now 3,875.Earl Palmer was senior pastor for 15 years, following Bruce Larson and preceding George Hinman. Palmer retired to form Earl Palmer Ministries where he continues teaching ministering, and mentoring. Palmer's articles, videos, and sermons can be heard and downloaded from his web site, including episodes from the Kindlings Muse, Earl's lectures on C. S. Lewis, and hundreds of sermons reaching back to the ’70s. The current organ was completed in 1999. The Reuter Organ, Opus 2196, was built in Lawrence Kansas. The organ committee, their consultant, Joseph Adam, and organist JoAnn Stremler helped collaborate on the new organ’s design with Reuter’s regional representative, David R. Salmen. Senior Pastor Dr. Earl F. Palmer said of the organ: "In this house of worship we call University Presbyterian Church, that gift of great and tender sound is ours. Tears still well up in my eyes when I hear its subtlety and grandeur." University Presbyterian Church provides ministries for "the mentally ill, homeless, teens living on the streets, and those who are in prison." The congregation was a pioneer in the practice of sending short-term mission teams overseas.

Roosevelt station is a light rail station located in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, United States. It is served by Line 1 of Sound Transit's Link light rail system, which continues north to Northgate station and south to Downtown Seattle and SeaTac. The underground station consists of a single island platform connected to the surface via a mezzanine and two entrances along 12th Avenue Northeast at Northeast 65th and 67th streets. Construction on the Northgate extension was approved by voters in a 2008 ballot measure and began in 2012. Two tunnel boring machines used to build the light rail tunnels arrived at Roosevelt station in 2015, on their way between Northgate and the University District. The station opened on October 2, 2021.

The 2012 Seattle cafe shooting spree was a series of shooting incidents that occurred on May 30, 2012. The killing spree began with a mass shooting that occurred at Café Racer in Seattle, Washington, resulting in the deaths of four patrons and injuring a fifth. Another woman was killed not long after in a carjacking. The shooter, Ian Lee Stawicki, died by suicide the same day.
