In Metra's zone-based fare system, Wheeling is in zone F. As of 2018, Wheeling is the 134th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 348 weekday boardings.The station is located in an industrial development. Town Street ends at Wheeling Station as a cul-de-sac with parking in the middle of the U-Turn. Additional parking can be found on the opposite side of the intersection of Town Street and Wheeling Road, and across the tracks on Northgate Parkway south of Illinois Route 68.

The Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area is a protected area and historic district in Riverwoods, Illinois, United States. The area was a weekend getaway for businessman Edward L. Ryerson, who built a cabin there in 1928. He built three other cabins for friends, and had a country house built in 1942. It is representative of the type of getaways used by successful Chicagoans who sought the tranquil surroundings of the Des Plaines River. The Ryersons donated the property to the Lake County Forest Preserve district for public use. 471 acres (191 ha) are recognized as the Edward L. Ryerson Area Historic District.

The center opened in 2006 and hosts numerous high-end restaurants, and promeninent retailers such as Cheesecake Factory, Jos. A. Bank, DSW and LensCrafters. Regal Cinemas across the street opened November 20, 1998 as City Park 20 by Regal Entertainment. It has stadium seating and an IMAX theater. This theater is known for showing independent films.

Aptakisic is an unincorporated community in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Aptakisic is located along Aptakisic Road and the Canadian National Railway; it borders Buffalo Grove to the west and Lincolnshire to the east. The name Aptakisic is derived from Chief Aptakisic of the Potawatomie tribe; it is one of two unincorporated communities named in his honor, the other being Half Day.

The numbering plan area (NPA) comprises the northeastern part of Illinois and many northern suburbs of Chicago. Area code 847 was created on January 20, 1996, in a three-way split of area code 708. Area code 847 was involved in the first trial of telephone number pooling in the United States in June 1998, to avert central office code exhaustion in the numbering plan area.
