Longhope railway station

Longhope is a village in west Gloucestershire, situated within the Forest of Dean, England, United Kingdom. Arthur Bullock, who was born in Longhope in 1899, described its location as follows: The parish occupies the most easterly valley in the group of hills which lie between the Severn and the Wye. The name means long valley. It is about four miles long, running roughly north to south, and it is separated from the Severn valley by a range of hills consisting of May Hill (937 ft), Huntley Hill, Blaisdon Hill and Notwood Hill.'The village falls in the 'Blaisdon and Longhope' electoral ward. This ward has Longhope in the north and Blaisdon as its smaller southerly neighbour. The total ward population taken at the 2011 census was 1,754.May Hill is a prominent landmark and the ownership of the summit is vested with Longhope Parish Council. Little London is part of the Parish of Longhope and is found to the north of the village leading to the neighbouring village of Huntley. Little London received its name as many families from London were evacuated to the safety of the countryside during the Second World War. After the war, a number of the families stayed in Longhope and the surrounding areas.

Longhope Hill (grid reference SO693185) is a 0.2-hectare (0.49-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1989.

The Mount, Nottswood Hill, is a grade II listed house near Blaisdon in Gloucestershire. The house is thought to have been rebuilt in the later nineteenth century as a summer home for a Gloucester solicitor. It is described by the authors of the Victoria County History as an "ornamental cottage" and by others as being in the Arts and Crafts style.

Blaisdon Hall (grid reference SO698170) is a Grade II* listed building at Blaisdon. It includes a 0.07-hectare (0.17-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1995.Blaisdon Hall supports a breeding roost of Lesser horseshoe bats which consists of one fifth of the known Gloucestershire breeding population, and has been deemed by Natural England to be of national importance. The site comprises part of the roof void, roof tiles, roof timbers, the flanking walls of the Hall and the nearby workshop. Pipistrelle bats and Brown long-eared bats also are recorded using the Hall.

Wood Green Quarry & Railway Cutting (grid reference SO694166) is a 0.3-hectare (0.74-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1966.

May Hill is a prominent English hill between Gloucester and Ross-on-Wye. Its summit, on the western edge of Gloucestershire and its northern slopes in Herefordshire, is distinguishable by a clump of trees on its summit, which forms an official Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is reached by three public footpaths, two as parts of the Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way.

Blaisdon is a village and civil parish in the Forest of Dean of Gloucestershire, England, about ten miles west of Gloucester. Its population in 2005 was estimated by Gloucestershire County Council to be 249. An estimate in 2012 placed the population at 420. The local church is dedicated to St Michael. John Dowding of Tanhouse Farm, Blaisdon developed the popular jam-making plum "Blaisdon Red" in the late 19th century.The Blaisdon Stud Farm was the home of the world's largest shire horse, "Blaisdon Conqueror". His bones are in the British Museum. Blaisdon Hall sits on a hill overlooking the village. It was built in 1874. It was used as a seminary and school by the Salesians of Don Bosco from 1935 to 1995. It was an agricultural college (Hartpury) from 1995 to 1999. It has since become a private residence.

Luxley is a village in the southwest Midlands of England, on the border between Gloucestershire and Herefordshire near May Hill. Luxley is 12 km (7.5 mi) southeast of Ross-on-Wye and 18 km (11 mi) west of Gloucester. The name has a number of variations. Victorian maps show Luxtre while current place names include Luxtree Farm and Upper Laxtree.

Land Grove Quarry, Mitcheldean (grid reference SO672185) is a 3.8-hectare (9.4-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, England, notified in 1974. The site is listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).The site is a working quarry, but with only small scale quarrying being undertaken. This leaves good exposures as required by the designation.

Blaisdon railway station is a disused stone built railway station that served the village of Blaisdon in Gloucestershire and was the first stop on the Gloucester to Hereford line after Grange Court junction. The station has been demolished.
