Marymount High School is an all-girls school in Highgate, St Mary, Jamaica. It was established in 1935 by sisters of the Franciscan Order. It has 840 students.

St. Mary High School is a secondary school located in the Highgate area of St Mary, Jamaica. St. Mary High School is a traditional high school for grades 7 through to 13. It has an enviable academic and athletic record and is one of the most sought-after schools for PEP graduates in Northeast Jamaica. The school boasts a diverse racial makeup, the largest minority groups being East Indians and Chinese. The school was the National Schools' Debate champion in 1989, 1996, 1998, and 2005. In common with all state-run Jamaican secondary schools, St. Mary High uses a selection process to accept students at the grade seven level. Due to the high level of competition from primary level students in St. Mary and surrounding parishes to gain entrance into St. Mary High School, one of two traditional high schools in St. Mary and the only one with a sixth form programme, the majority of entrants are higher-scoring PEP candidates. Students from most primary and preparatory schools can attempt to gain a place by sitting the Primary Exit Profile (formerly the Grade Six Achievement Test).

Saint Mary is a parish located in the northeast section of Jamaica. With a population of 114,227 it is one of Jamaica's smallest parishes, located in the county of Middlesex. Its chief town and capital is Port Maria, located on the coast. It is also the birthplace of established dancehall reggae artists, such as Capleton, Lady Saw, Ninjaman, Sizzla, and Tanya Stephens. Other notable residents of St. Mary parish include bestselling author Colin Simpson, who is the great-great grandson of noted slavery abolitionist James Phillippo, famed Jamaican writer and community activist Erna Brodber, and acclaimed music producer Chris Blackwell who is credited with "discovering" Bob Marley.

Richmond Farm Prison is a prison in Jamaica that houses up to 235 first offenders serving long-term sentences. It once incorporated a large banana farm, which was later destroyed. As of 2006, an attempt was under way to regenerate the farm with crops including bananas, corn, calaloo, string beans and cucumber.Its most famous former ex inmate was Bunny Wailer who spent 14 months there in 1967/8. Other sources indicate Toots Hibbert served a year of an 18-month sentence there in 1966–7. It is operated by the Department of Correctional Services for the Ministry of National Security.

The Pagee River rises on the south eastern flank of Berry Hill (a 1,655 ft (504 m) summit) just below the 1,000 ft (300 m) contour at 18.29488°N 76.92817°W / 18.29488; -76.92817 near Crawle Pen in Saint Mary. It reaches the sea 14 miles (23 km) later at Pagee Beach (18.36845°N 76.87935°W / 18.36845; -76.87935) also in Saint Mary.

Port Maria is the capital town of the Jamaican parish of Saint Mary. Originally named "Puerto Santa Maria", it was the second town established by Spanish settlers in Jamaica. The ruins of Fort Haldane, built 1759, overlook the town. It has a population of approximately 7,500 people. include St Mary's Parish Church, built in 1861, and the St Mary courthouse, a Georgian structure built in 1820 which now houses the Port Maria civic centre. Jamaica's first Prime minister Alexander Bustamante was put on trial for manslaughter with Frank Pixley at the courthouse in 1947. They were acquitted.Port Maria is the birthplace of Sports Illustrated model Georgianna Robertson.As of March 2012, the Mayor is Levan Ainsworth Freeman.

The Otram River, formerly the Port Maria River or the Port Maria Western River, is a river in Saint Mary Parish, Jamaica. It reaches the sea in the parish capital of Port Maria and contributes to flooding in that town.It is joined at Trinity by the Negro River, where an aqueduct, completed in 1797, of over a mile's length once drew water from the Otram to supply Trinity sugar plantation there.

Troja railway station opened in 1896, closed in 1975, reopened in 1977 and closed for good in 1978. It was on the Bog Walk to Port Antonio branch line, 31 miles (50 km) from the Kingston terminus (in Jamaica), and served the surrounding agricultural community, providing a means for bananas to reach and be exported from Port Antonio. It was vandalised some time after closure.

Galina Lighthouse is a strongly tapered white concrete tower 13 metres (43 ft) high with no lantern. A solar-powered lens is mounted on a small platform at the top. It shows a white light flashing once every twelve seconds for a duration of 1.2 seconds followed by 10.8 seconds of darkness. The light is visible for 19 kilometres (12 mi). The lighthouse is solar powered.The station was established in 1912 but the tower's date of construction is unknown.It is maintained by the Port Authority of Jamaica, an agency of the Ministry of Transport and Works.
