St Bernard's Catholic High School is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school located in Furness, and is situated on Rating Lane in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England.It was established in 1979, when the introduction of comprehensive education in the town resulted in a merger between the former St. Aloysius School (1953) and the Girls' Convent School (otherwise known as 'Our Lady's School', which had been operated by the nuns from Croslands Convent since 1929). It was officially established as a 'Specialist Science' School in 2006. The head teacher was Mr Eugene Tumelty who had been there for thirty years. He retired at the end of the 2010-2011 School Year. Mr Tumelty received the Benemerenti Medal for his religious teachings in the school. The headteacher is currently Mr P Croft. Previously a voluntary aided school administered by Cumbria County Council, in September 2021 St Bernard's Catholic High School converted to academy status. It is now sponsored by the Mater Christi Multi Academy Trust, and continues to be under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lancaster.

Barrow Sixth Form College, part of Furness College, is in the outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Barrow Sixth Form College was established in 1979 to fulfil the role of the main A level provider in Barrow following the merger of the two Barrow Grammar Schools and their change to deliver education to only 11 to 16 year-olds. It is the only sixth form college in Cumbria. A levels and Cambridge Technical qualifications are taught in buildings that have been specially designed for students over the age of sixteen. It includes facilities for physically disabled students and is a satellite campus for Beaumont. The college primarily educates students within the age range of 16–18 years, as well as courses for adult learners. In August 2016, the college gained chartered college status. This membership is awarded to the higher performing further education colleges and training providers in the UK. The college is also a member of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear.

Chetwynde School is a Free school in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It includes a kindergarten, primary school and secondary school. It is a member of South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust. Founded as an independent primary school, it was known as Our Lady's Chetwynde School and Chetwynde Convent Preparatory School at different periods of its history before it expanded to being a coeducational independent school for children aged 3 to 18. Before 2014 it was Barrow's only independent school and the only one in the town which educated children from nursery all the way to sixth form. The school became a state-funded free school in September 2014 for pupils aged 4–16 years.

Infield House (also known as 'Infield Park', or simply 'Infield') was a large late-19th century country house located to the north of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Infield House was built adjacent to Abbey Road as a residence for businessman Samuel John Claye, the owner of Claye's Wagon Works. After Claye's death in 1886, the house and Wagon Works were sold on and later became a convalescent home. The facilities closure lead to Infield House falling into a state of disrepair and it was eventually demolished in the 1970s and replaced by a housing estate named Infield Gardens. The only remaining feature of Infield House is the boundary wall and gate piers which mark the entrance to the modern housing estate.

Furness Abbey, or St. Mary of Furness, is a former Catholic monastery located to the north of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The abbey dates back to 1123 and was once the second-wealthiest and most powerful Cistercian monastery in the country, behind Fountains Abbey, prior to its dissolution during the English Reformation. The abbey contains a number of individual Grade I Listed Buildings and is a Scheduled Monument.

Roose is a railway station on the Furness Line, which runs between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster. The station, situated 1+3⁄4 miles (3 km) east of Barrow-in-Furness, serves the suburb of Roose in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

The Furness Abbey Hotel was demolished in 1953, having been bombed in May 1941. Its site now forms the car park to Furness Abbey and the museum. The station at Furness Abbey also suffered bomb damage and was demolished in the early 1950s. The original station booking office and refreshment room, built in 1862, which had been attached to the hotel, survives as The Abbey Tavern, standing in Abbey Approach, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England, to the north of the remains of Furness Abbey. The current structure is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Ernest Pass Memorial Ground is a cricket ground in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria (formerly Lancashire). Prior to 1937, the ground was known as Monk's Croft. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1937, when the Lancashire Second XI played Durham in the Minor Counties Championship. The Lancashire Second XI used the ground on 4 occasions in Minor counties cricket. Cumberland first used the ground in the Minor Counties Championship when it played Northumberland in 1984. From 1984 to present, the ground has hosted 22 Minor Counties Championship matches for Cumberland and 2 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches.The ground has hosted 2 List-A matches, the first of which saw Cumberland play Northamptonshire in the 1997 NatWest Trophy. The second List-A match played on there saw Cumberland play Kent in the 2001 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy 3rd round. The home county lost both of these matches against their professional, first-class opponents.In local domestic cricket, Edenside is the home ground of Barrow Cricket Club. who play in the Northern Premier Cricket League.

Bow Bridge is a late medieval multi-span bridge located near Furness Abbey in Cumbria and built in the 1500s. It is made of local red sandstone stone and crosses Mill Beck. It has been a Scheduled monument since 1949. Bow Bridge is a good example of a late medieval multi-span bridge and is a rare example in Cumbria of a bridge of this period. It was constructed by the monks of Furness Abbey to give access to their New Mill. After the Dissolution this mill fell into disuse and the bridge saw little traffic. As such it was never altered greatly and consequently survives well, displaying many of its original features.

Risedale is a ward of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It is bordered by Barrow town centre, Parkside, Newbarns and Roose and had a population of 5,663 in 2001,increasing to 6,294 at the 2011 Census.Risedale is a fairly deprived district, with figures for unemployment being higher than Barrow and national average. Council housing makes up much of the southern area of the ward (in the form of Broadway, Gateway, Longway and Westway).

Abbey House on Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England is a Neo-Elizabethan H-plan mansion designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1914 as a guest house for Vickers Ltd and a flat for the Managing Director, Sir James McKechnie. In its abstracted, military echo of the Tudor style, it prefigures the style of Lutyens' Castle Drogo. In 1951, having been acquired by the County Council, Abbey House was made into an old people's home, and consequently suffered considerable neglect. Abbey House has been a Grade II* Listed Building since 1949.In 1984, it was sold by the Council and restored as a hotel. The Abbey House Hotel is a four-star venue set in 14 acres of gardens and saw a major extension during the early 2000s.
