Newbarns is an area and electoral ward of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It is bordered by Hawcoat, Parkside, Risedale and Roose, the local population stood at 5,515 in 2001, decreasing to 5,487 at the 2011 Census. Newbarns covers an area of 2.78 square kilometres and lies east of Abbey Road, encompassing Furness Abbey in its entirety, Barrow Sixth Form College and St. Bernard's Catholic High School. Newbarns is extremely diverse, with the majority of the south of the ward being amongst the 6% to 10% most deprived areas of the country, while north Newbarns contains Croslands Park, Barrow's most expensive street and is within the 25% of least deprived areas nationwide.

Risedale is a ward of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It is bordered by Barrow town centre, Parkside, Newbarns and Roose and had a population of 5,663 in 2001,increasing to 6,294 at the 2011 Census.Risedale is a fairly deprived district, with figures for unemployment being higher than Barrow and national average. Council housing makes up much of the southern area of the ward (in the form of Broadway, Gateway, Longway and Westway).

Roosecote Power Station was a gas-fired, originally coal-fired power station, situated in the Roosecote district of Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, North West England. The gas-fired station opened in 1991 and was the first CCGT power station to supply electricity to the United Kingdom's National Grid, but was mothballed in 2012 after a proposed biomass power station was cancelled. It was situated directly adjacent to Rampside Gas Terminal. The plant was demolished between 2014 and 2015. The site is now a 49 MW battery storage facility. This item is slightly inaccurate. My father worked for contractors on the installation of the turbines in 1953 and I, as a baby, was present for the opening of the station in late 1954 or in 1955. Final commissioning and commencement of coal-fired generation was therefore in 1954 or 1955, not in 1953.

Cavendish Dock is one of the four docks which make up the Port of Barrow in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Covering some 591,000 square metres (6,360,000 sq ft) it is roughly the size of Barrow's other three docks combined. It is named after William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire who invested heavily in the industrial growth of Barrow. Cavendish Dock is owned by Associated British Ports, however it is now entirely enclosed serving as a reservoir. It is also a popular fishing destination due to the diverse and unique wildlife found as a result of the control of water in and out the dock. Fishing is controlled by Barrow Angling Association and memberships are required to fish the water. During the early 20th century, Cavendish Dock was home to an airship construction facility before the works were transferred to nearby Barrow/Walney Island Airport.

St Bernard's Catholic High School is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school located in Furness, and is situated on Rating Lane in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England.It was established in 1979, when the introduction of comprehensive education in the town resulted in a merger between the former St. Aloysius School (1953) and the Girls' Convent School (otherwise known as 'Our Lady's School', which had been operated by the nuns from Croslands Convent since 1929). It was officially established as a 'Specialist Science' School in 2006. The head teacher was Mr Eugene Tumelty who had been there for thirty years. He retired at the end of the 2010-2011 School Year. Mr Tumelty received the Benemerenti Medal for his religious teachings in the school. The headteacher is currently Mr P Croft. Previously a voluntary aided school administered by Cumbria County Council, in September 2021 St Bernard's Catholic High School converted to academy status. It is now sponsored by the Mater Christi Multi Academy Trust, and continues to be under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lancaster.

Barrow Sixth Form College, part of Furness College, is in the outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Barrow Sixth Form College was established in 1979 to fulfil the role of the main A level provider in Barrow following the merger of the two Barrow Grammar Schools and their change to deliver education to only 11 to 16 year-olds. It is the only sixth form college in Cumbria. A levels and Cambridge Technical qualifications are taught in buildings that have been specially designed for students over the age of sixteen. It includes facilities for physically disabled students and is a satellite campus for Beaumont. The college primarily educates students within the age range of 16–18 years, as well as courses for adult learners. In August 2016, the college gained chartered college status. This membership is awarded to the higher performing further education colleges and training providers in the UK. The college is also a member of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear.

Barrow and Furness, formerly known as Barrow-in-Furness, is a constituency in Cumbria which has been represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Conservative Simon Fell since 2019.

The Yarlside Iron Mines tramway or Parkhouse Mineral Railway was built as a one-mile (1.6 km) long innovative railway from the Parkhouse Haematite Ore Mines to the Roose railway station on the Furness Railway, then in North Lancashire, now in Cumbria, England. Similar to a monorail, it had stabilising side rollers, invented and patented by John Barraclough Fell. The Yarlside area near Barrow-in-Furness served by this railway is unrelated to Yarlside Fell, which is 33 miles (53 km) to the east.

Bow Bridge is a late medieval multi-span bridge located near Furness Abbey in Cumbria and built in the 1500s. It is made of local red sandstone stone and crosses Mill Beck. It has been a Scheduled monument since 1949. Bow Bridge is a good example of a late medieval multi-span bridge and is a rare example in Cumbria of a bridge of this period. It was constructed by the monks of Furness Abbey to give access to their New Mill. After the Dissolution this mill fell into disuse and the bridge saw little traffic. As such it was never altered greatly and consequently survives well, displaying many of its original features.

Headin Haw, also spelled Headen Haw, is part of the Islands of Furness. It is a small tidal island approximately 200 metres (220 yards) off the coast of Cumbria, England (historically Lancashire), adjacent to the town of Barrow-in-Furness. The Melfort Gunpowder Company built a powder magazine here in 1853. From here powder was delivered to the company magazine at Powka near Lindal Moor and also to Hodbarrow, Whitehaven and further afield in the Company's ships. The magazine was last used in April 1876.

Furness Academy is a secondary school in Barrow-in-Furness, England. It is the fourth academy to have been formed in the county of Cumbria after the closure of Alfred Barrow School, Parkview Community College of Technology and Thorncliffe School in 2009. Having utilised numerous buildings of the former Parkview and Thorncliffe Schools since 2009, a single £22 million building opened in the Parkside area of the town in September 2013.Since opening, Furness Academy has gained a somewhat tarnished reputation from having the highest exclusion rate in England (between 2009 and 2010), and a number of Ofsted reports that judged it as inadequate. The 2012 report led to the academy unsuccessfully challenging Ofsted in the High Court, and the 2013 report led to the school's being placed in 'special measures' and the suspension of the academy's principal.The school was successfully moved out of special measures in 2015. It also celebrated its best ever GCSE results in summer 2015. In 2019, Furness Academy successfully merged with the Inspired Learning Trust, to form Furness Education Trust. This multi academy Trust comprises Furness Academy, Parkside Academy, Victoria Academy, Yarlside Academy and South Cumbria School Direct.

Salthouse is an area of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Centred on Salthouse Road to the east of the town centre it was historically a ward in its own right however has since been subsumed into the wards of Risedale and Central Barrow. Salthouse Mills Industrial Estate is the most noted in Salthouse and is home to many long-term industrial tenants including Dixons Forge, Furness Vehicle Dismantlers, Furness Heat Treatment, and Furness Joinery. It was acquired by a London based property developer Hiltongrove in 2018 and has been undergoing the transformation into a modern, outperforming 17-acre industrial site.
