Cherryville, South Australia

Marble Hill was the Vice-Regal summer residence for the Governor of South Australia for seventy-five years, from 1880 to 1955. It is also the name of a ward of the Adelaide Hills Council, and a suburb, both named after the residence and in which the residence is located. It is about 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Adelaide between the towns of Ashton and Cherryville, and has expansive views of the Adelaide Hills to the North and East, and the Adelaide Plains to the West.The residence was destroyed during the Black Sunday bushfire of 1955. Subsequently, the site was managed by the National Trust of South Australia from 1967 to 1992, and the Department for Environment and Heritage from 1992 to 2009. A volunteer Friends of Parks group, Friends of Marble Hill, ran open days and maintained the site from 1994 to 2008. To date, the main building has never been fully restored, but the National Trust undertook restoration of the tower and the nearby stables in the 1970s. Successive State Governments have not been prepared to restore the building (despite it having been a residence of the vice-regal representative), as the expense involved would not be considered responsible use of public funds. In 2009, Marble Hill was sold to a local family, who plan to reconstruct and re-use the building.

Basket Range is a small town in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It is located on an approximately north–south ridge that runs from Deep Creek in the north to Greenhill Road in the south. The area is completely encircled by hills, giving the town the appearance of nestling within a large basket, hence "Basket Range". It has been suggested that the name may derive from the practice of German farmers who, travelling from Lobethal to Adelaide along the old Bullock Track which passed through the area, would carry their produce in large wicker baskets. It has also been suggested that a Mr Basket was in charge of issuing timber-cutting licences in the very early days; however, there is no evidence of any Mr Basket having lived there or been in charge of licences.The town's main industries include apple and cherry orchards, and there are numerous cottages available for bed and breakfast accommodation. Basket Range Primary School was established in 1885, and the Basket Range CFS was founded in 1969.Basket Range Post Office opened on 1 April 1892.Basket Range is also home to one of the oldest cricket clubs in the region. Basket Range Cricket Club was formed in 1892 and their oval overlooks the wide sweeping hills views of the area.

Morialta is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is a 356 km2 electorate stretching from the Adelaide Hills to the outer eastern and north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide, taking in the suburbs and localities of Ashton, Athelstone, Basket Range, Birdwood, Castambul, Cherryville, Cudlee Creek, Forest Range, Gumeracha, Highbury, Kenton Valley, Lenswood, Lobethal, Marble Hill, Montacute, Mount Torrens, Norton Summit, Rostrevor, Summertown, Teringie, Uraidla and Woodforde, as well as part of Chain of Ponds. Morialta is a word derived from the Kaurna language, originally thought to be marri-yartalla, "marri" meaning east and yertala meaning "flowing water". More recent research has shown that the etymology of the word is marri, meaning "east" and probably yarta, meaning "land, earth, country", or possibly yalta, meaning "cool, fresh, airy"; therefore, probably meaning "eastern land or country". The land used by the Morialta Conservation Park was traditionally occupied by the Kaurna people. Morialta was the new name adopted in 2002 for the electoral district of Coles, which was first created at the 1970 election and represented over the years by several distinguished MPs, including former Dunstan Labor government Attorney General Len King, and former Premier Des Corcoran. Morialta was won at the 2002 election by Liberal minister Joan Hall, the last member for Coles, on a margin of 4.1 percent, suffering a -2.4 percent swing. At the 2006 election, Hall was thought likely to again hold the seat with a reduced margin, but was defeated by Labor candidate Lindsay Simmons amidst Labor's statewide landslide, receiving a 12 percent two-party preferred swing to finish with a 7.9 percent margin. However, at the 2010 election the electorate there was a swing of 11.1 percent back to the Liberals, with candidate John Gardner defeating Simmons by a margin of 4.1 percent.

Montacute is a small regional area in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Montacute is located on Fifth Creek, and the mostly-rural suburb extends from Rostrevor in the west to Lenswood in the east, bounded on the north by Castambul and on the south by Norton Summit and Cherryville. The small town of Montacute Heights is located on top of the ridge between Fifth and Sixth Creeks. Copper was discovered in the area in 1843 by Thomas Burr, and a mine was soon set up. One of the mine's financiers, Sir John Baker, named the area after Montacute, Somerset, which was near his birthplace. Gold was discovered in 1846 and the "Victoria Mine" became Australia's first commercially exploited gold deposit.The main industries are now orchards and market gardens. The 200 hectare Montacute Conservation Park was founded in 1971.Corkscrew Road, a small road linking Montacute Heights with Gorge Road via a precipitous route with many twists and turns, is a popular route for cyclists and day trippers.

Montacute Conservation Park is a protected area located in South Australia about 17 kilometres (11 miles) north-east of the Adelaide city centre. The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area.

Ashton is a town in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. It was named by George Hunt in 1858 after his home Ashton in England. Ashton is from the old English word aesctun, which means "ash tree town".

Kangaroo Creek Reservoir is a 19,160 megalitres (677×10^6 cu ft) artificial water storage reservoir in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It was built from 1966 to 1969, by damming the River Torrens west of Cudlee Creek. The stored water is used to maintain the Hope Valley Reservoir's level via discharge through the Torrens. Water is held back by a 131 metres (430 ft) long, 65 m (213 ft) high concrete clad, rock filled dam wall.It is named after Kangaroo Creek, a tributary of the Torrens with a 18 km2 (7 sq mi) drainage basin, which enters the reservoir on its southern side.

Castambul is a small locality near Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the Adelaide Hills Council local government area.

Giles Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) east of the state capital of Adelaide. It was declared in 2007 and has an area of 109 ha (270 acres). Previously, the land was the eastern portion of the Horsnell Gully Conservation Park. It was named after the family of Charles Giles who is reported as being a pioneer in the fields of horticulture and floriculture in South Australia.The conservation park features remnant native vegetation and native animals such as Western grey kangaroos and koalas. It features one walking trail that is part of the Mount Lofty to Norton Summit portion of the Heysen and Yurrebilla trails. The official brochure suggests that the conservation park offers ‘excellent opportunities for bushwalking, birdwatching, photography, painting and nature study."The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area.

Norton Summit (formerly Norton's Summit) is a town in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, located approximately 12 km east of the city of Adelaide. The town is named after Robert Norton, who arrived in South Australia shortly after its proclamation, and made the first recorded climb in the area in 1836.It is well known for the popular Scenic Hotel, founded in the 1870s, often considered one of the best pubs in Adelaide. Another landmark is St. John's Church, founded with the assistance of the Baker family at around the same time.The Morialta Protestant Children's Home was established in 1924 on nearby land, part of John Baker's estate, closed in 1972. The Playford family have long been residents of the area. The Rev. Thomas Playford, a Waterloo veteran turned preacher, settled in the area in 1840s. His son (Thomas Playford II) and great-grandson (Thomas Playford IV) both became Premier of South Australia. Thomas Playford IV is the longest serving Premier in South Australia's history, from 1938 to 1965. His statue stands in the centre of the township.Norton Summit is one of the most popular cycling climbs in Australia.

Uraidla (, yoo-RAYD-lə) is a small town in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, Australia. At the 2016 census, Uraidla had a population of 575. However it also sits at the centre of a larger population catchment of rural townships which include Summertown, Piccadilly, Ashton, Basket Range, Carey Gully, Norton Summit and Cherryville. The name is derived from the Kaurna name Yuridla, which means "two ears" and originally referred to the two nearby peaks of Mt Lofty and Mt Bonython, and also relates to the Dreaming story of Ngarnu, a giant from the east.

Gorge Road is a South Australian secondary road, connecting the Adelaide suburbs of Campbellltown and Athelstone with the towns of Cudlee Creek, Chain of Ponds, Kersbrook, Williamstown and Lyndoch. It is a secondary route, hence has been given the State Route designation of B31. Gorge Road is the name given only the southern and most notable section of the B31 route, from Campbelltown in Adelaide's north eastern suburbs to the Adelaide-Mannum Road near Chain of Ponds. Other road names are: Little Para Road - from the B10 to Kersbrook. South Para Road - Between Kersbrook and Williamston. Lyndoch Valley Way - Between Williamstown and the B19 at Lyndoch.
